Media Hint makes \"Pointless\" a daily show in my house. Has anyone tried to download any shows for the BBC iPlayer? Any success playing them?

Yes.  I have seen That Puppet Game Show via iPlayer.

Ok... I installed the iPlayer on the laptop and I\'m trying to download Pointless... and they just sit there and do nothing. Help? :)

University Challenge, Only Connect, and Mastermind. I\'m hoping BBC Radio\'s Brain of Britain gets to the iPlayer.

I think what might be lost here is that Josh is asking about the download option rather than streaming.

Oh, well. Then yes. I don\'t know what works on that. I just grab from the website.

Has downloading worked for anyone else? The stream works wonderfully, unlike that all \'Plinko\' show they attempted last week on \"Price\" :P

I was just looking for a bit more flexibility, that\'s all.

You\'re already able to watch something that, strictly speaking, you shouldn\'t be able to watch.

You might need to just accept the flexibility you\'ve already been provided with.

Subscribe to BBC Radio 4\'s General Knowledge Quiz podcast. You\'ll pick up Brain of Britain later this year. (Their Counterpoint music quiz is also remarkably alluring, even though I get 2 answers right per episode....)

Bumping this because MediaHint is no longer a free service.  They want $4/month or $40/year after a one week trial.  Are there any similar options available?  I use Chrome, but I'm willing to use another browser if need be.

That's interesting; I got Mastermind to play with no issue. And y'know what? I think I'd pay that to support a neat product that fills a service I like.

The only other free alternative I've seen is Hola Unblocker (aka Hola Better Internet).  It's in the Chrome Web Store.

And Hola a) works like absolute crap and b) when it DOES work, injects ads into the websites you use it with and tries to get you to download crapware. Which would be fine if they were up-front about it, but they very much aren't.

At least MH is being straight(-er) about it, and I would imagine if you are using it to watch a lot of BBC content, $40 a year probably sounds like a reasonable deal. (That said, they are going to find that charging for the service is going to attract the attention of the people whose restricted sites the service is (with questionable legality) circumventing, and I don't see that ending well for them. Or, more to the point, their customers who they are now financially beholden to.)

Not sure I'd pay for the full year, because if they are still operating a year from now I will be shocked.

Hola works pretty great if you also are using AdBlock.

I did not have good luck with it, but I'm certainly willing to give it another shot, considering I only used it infrequently.
