New Buzzr slot machine
« on: August 17, 2025, 10:38:21 PM »
I thought the glut of game show-themed slots had dried up well over a decade ago, so I was pleasantly surprised to encounter a new-looking Buzzr-themed machine on a visit to a nearby casino recently. It features clips from Card Sharks (Eubanks), Feud (Dawson) and, of all shows, Beat The Clock (Hall)--each with their own special bonus that is unlocked when a player spins the right number of show logos. The music played while playing normally is sadly a generic track, but I did hit the BtC bonus and was delighted to hear the theme from the '79 version as my free spins played themselves out. I later observed another player hit the CS bonus and it played the '86 theme.

I got scolded by a security guard for trying to take pictures of the machine, so this low-quality shot will have to do, unfortunately: https://imgur.com/a/lJh46aZ

That's a great looking machine!!! Yeah, taking pictures in a casino is a big no-no. I took a pic after a big win and almost instantly the security guard asked me to leave. Only after I told him I would delete the picture (and he could watch me do it) did he allow me to stay.

Here is a "eluded security" video that includes all three game show bonus games:

I did not. At least Card Sharks was a high/low game, but the other two were big ol' nothing burgers.

Yeah, taking pictures in a casino is a big no-no.

You know, this absolutely makes sense for a lot of casino games, but not necessarily for slots. Though I totally understand that a blanket "just NO" is better than Security trying to parse it on the floor.  Still, this had never occurred to me to be a thing.

I was surprised to read that regarding the slot machine as well. To my eye in Vegas, which I imagine is a bit of a standard bearer for casino security, they've caught up with today's phone culture. In the past, even a glance at your phone to check the time got a stern reaction from any gaming employee. Now, they seem to parse whether or not you're engaged in nefarious activity, or on it for too long, before they say anything. That is to say, a text to your friends of "I'm near the front" doesn't seem to rattle every dealer. And casual pictures near machines or neutral parts of the gaming floor seem to be happening.

YMMV.

Even the CS bonus probably isn't random--it pays out based on whatever the payback percentage on the machine is. If you guess lower on a 3 and it wants to pay you, it'll show a 2.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

As someone who has spent a good amount of time in the business, I can back Jason's accounts up.

The less formal cardroom I worked for didn't have a problem with moderate cell phone usage, so long as you didn't leave your phone resting at the table.  A quick text, etc. was not a problem.  Some of the older joints that I've been in give the stern reaction Jason alluded to.

With that said, I have never had a problem taking pictures of slot machines.  I've recorded video and video chatted while playing slots.  There's YouTube channels of them playing slot machines as well.  I think some of you have ran into overzealous employees.

This was my experience as well.  Casinos I've been to both in Colorado and Las Vegas generally don't seem to care if you take a picture of a slot machine (especially if you won a lot - I think they kind of expect that anymore).  I think they only really seem to say something if you take a picture of other people, or of the casino itself.

It might just be a Pennsylvania thing, it sounds like.
