Interesting... I wonder if this will finally pave the way for Buzzr reruns perhaps?

But the over-arching question is, of course, what happens to the current version on the CW?

Discuss.

I should make clear - I am far from an industry insider. That said, I read the linked article, and two items jumped out at me:

--- Quote ---Fremantle is betting big on letters, acquiring international production and distribution rights to “Scrabble,” the gameshow adaptation of Hasbro and Mattel’s iconic wordplay board game that has been performing well for The CW since its October launch.
--- End quote ---

This seems to me to be saying that Fremantle bought the rights to try to sell the CW Scrabble format outside the US, and that this deal has nothing to do with the show Chuck Woolery hosted.

--- Quote ---The acquisition bolsters Fremantle’s portfolio of legacy game show formats, joining other recognizable titles like “The Price is Right,” “Deal or No Deal,” and “Family Feud.”
--- End quote ---

Fremantle owns Deal Or No Deal? Did I miss something?

Likely, they meant LMAD.

It was.a long night for Variety last night...Oscar parties, you know...

The disk drive with the AV files are bulldozed and sent to a desert landfill.

Might be wishful thinking, but I'm inclined to think that acquisition of the TV rights to the Scrabble brand itself would encompass broadcasting a prior TV representation of it, effectively grandfathering in Chuck's version.
Guess we'd know if we start hearing of copyright claims from Fremantle on our Scrabble uploads  ;D
