Savvy coordinators could pair off contestants with similar strengths and either subtly or unsubtly mold the game around that.

I don't know whether this helps or hurts the hunt for a broad audience, but if this NTT used the standard format (3 best-of-5's and a 7-song golden medley) but only used #1's from the Billboard Hot 100 (which has been in place over 60 years), they could play about 50 matches without repeating a tune.

Krakowski is steeped in classic Broadway.  She even has a Tony award.   I too hope that we'll have a broader selection of music than what Beat Shazam offers.  American Idol and even Dancing with the Stars have appealed to the entire family, not a specific demographic, by doing just that.

I wouldn't get your hopes up...the promo I've seen demonstrates trying to guess a Billie Eilish song in three notes...from that promo alone, I found myself tempted to say "nahhhhh...pass..." already...

This was (to me) the problem with the 1970s version of the show--the songs seemed to be primarily from the prerock era (that may have changed a bit the last couple of years of the Kennedy run). And that probably appealed to their primary audience target of people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s, but as a preteen and teen I was often hopelessly lost. I hope they do try to appeal to a broad crosssection of age groups, but I imagine that would be a challenge.

That was something I noticed about Lange's version as well. A lot of songs that seemed to be popular in the 1940s and '50s. Oddly enough, I remember one Lange episode where the contestants were stumped by YMCA. I guess people were still trying to forget about disco in 1984. :P

We have a trailer. I’m intrigued.

You made that assumption...based on one song...from one promo?

Just admit you hate game shows and move on.

I hate game shows?

Really...

The person who once had the largest private game show video archive hates game shows...

Suuuuurrrrrrre...okay...

And, not that I owe you any explanation or further information, I have already changed my opinion based on the longer promo...
