Here is a casting notice of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" from 1987. Interesting to see whose names were being considered for the roles, including a future game show host/producer.

Imagine how "Wesley Crusher" would be treated now if the casting came into fruition.......

As a Star Trek fan, I find that memo fascinating, and I'm surprised I didn't hear about it when it was first made public a few years ago.

The interesting thing about J.D. Roth is not just that he was being considered, but according to that memo he "seems to be the only possibility" for the role.  Makes me wonder what the story was there.

The other interesting piece of casting would appear to be the possibilities for Geordi.  There are a couple of VERY obscure actors named Reggie Jackson, but I can't help wondering whether they were actually looking at the baseball player for that role.  There are other interesting choices on that list as well, some of whom went on to have pretty successful careers.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

It's not as if RJ the baseball player didn't have acting experience; for example, he was a guest star on The Love Boat in one episode.

I also see Mark Lindsay Chapman on that last - I assume that, had he been cast, it would have been a safe bet Yoko Ono would not have been watching the show.
(For those of you who don't know the story, Chapman auditioned for the starring role in a John Lennon TV-biogprahy under the name John Lindsay, and got the part - until Yoko found out that his real last name was Chapman and refused to give permission as long as somebody who had the same last name as Lennon's killer was cast as him.)

Did she find out his real first name was also Mark? If the last name wasn't reason enough, having the same first name as well is a pretty unsettling thought, not just to her but the viewers and Beatles fans as well.

/Granted he could've still been John Lindsay back then
//But I definitely understand Yoko's reasoning

And to think, if this had happened, we probably wouldn't have gotten "The Biggest Loser", "Beauty and the Geek", "For Love or Money", and "Una1minous", among many, many other shows...so is this a good thing or a bad thing?

JD Roth also appeared on at least a few occasions on Charles In Charge, as one of Charles' friends.

A world without Wil Wheaton cannot possibly be a good thing.

/If there's no "Beauty and the Geek", does that keep Mike Richards off Price?
//That changes everything.

Well, perhaps to Sheldon it would.
