Game show hosts on other shows
« on: November 18, 2008, 04:14:04 PM »
Game show hosts have made guest appearances on many TV shows over the years.  A few that come to mind include Monty Hall, Richard Dawson and Dick Clark all making appearances on The Odd Couple, Patrick Wayne on Murder:  She Wrote, Jack Barry, Allen Ludden, Dennis James, and Clark on Batman, Barry on The Addams Family, Gene Rayburn and Burt Convy on The Love Boat and Wink Martindale on Meet My Folks.  Can anyone think of others?

Alex Trebek (Cheers, The Golden Girls)
Chuck Barris (Sanford and Son)
Bob Eubanks (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air)
Regis Philbin (Spin City)
Bud Collyer (The Honeymooners)

I'm sure Pat Sajak and Vanna White appeared on some 80's sitcom where one of the characters got on Wheel of Fortune, and that goes double for Ray Combs.

(according to ImDB)
BOB BARKER
Something So Right
How I Met Your Mother
The Nanny
Family Guy (3 times!)
Futurama
Bonanza
The Bold and the Beautiful
Yes, Dear
Martial Law

Of the above, Bob Barker did NOT play himself in Something So Right and Bonanza.

And "Diff'rent Strokes."  Kim Fields also guests as her "Facts of Life" character Tootie and tells Edwards (playing a TV news reporter) twice during the episode "You ask the dumbest questions."

True.  Still worth discussing, though, as it's on-topic. :-)

So wait, we have an unfinished list?  Because you know, an unfinished list is unfinished business...

Exactly.  "Allowed" is not nearly the same thing as "worth".  You can look up any host you want on IMDB and see what other shows he's been on.  Hard to really see the point in this.

Though we don't have a specific rule against it, this forum really isn't intended to be a place where people just make up "what can you add to the list?" threads.  Those seem to be quite popular on GSN's Buzz forum, and I encourage you take future ones there.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

After what I saw last night, I should offer this variant to the concept.   How many times has a game show host murdered another game show host when they appear together on the same show? :)

I mention this only because on the 1963 ABC show "Burke's Law" we were greeted to Dick Clark (already hosting his first ABC shows at the time) bumping off Edgar Bergen the original host of "Do You Trust Your Wife?"

From the close-to-what-you're-after department:
Lyle Waggoner played a suspect in the murder of a character played by Peter Marshall in a 1995 episode of Burke's Law.
