DoND to add Double or Nothing feature
« on: January 03, 2007, 09:28:28 PM »
From BuzzerBlog:

Quote
On Sunday, January 7th at 7PM ET, "Deal or No Deal" will add a new  wrinkle to the game: Double or Nothing.  Nothing is really known about  how the US will handle it, but the Australian version of the show had  it for a bit.  In it, they could bet however much money they choose to  from the amount they won and then pick a case.  If they pick DOUBLE,  they double the amount of the bet.  If they pick NOTHING, they lose the  amount they bet.  So, hypothetically, if a person gambles $100,000 from  the $250,000 they won: picking DOUBLE adds $200,000 to the player's  total giving them $350,000.  Picking NOTHING takes the $100,000 away  leaving them with $150,000.  Watch as Kathy Beck plays for $2,000,000  in a special "Grease" edition of "Deal or No Deal".  Our version is  getting really good, especially when we add game enhancing features  like this.

NBC provided a picture of the bigass cases.  Four models for one case.  Maybe if they get the double case a few models will come tumbling out of it.  That little asian lady on the right audience pit is amusing me, though.  She seems to be enjoying herself, or is on a heavy drug.  I failed to mention this in the article also (I need to include this), but the Lucky Case game is worth $100,000, according to NBC.

I'm guessing they're supposed to be "slutty Sandy" from the end of Grease.

EDIT:  Jason, a reminder, it's not a good idea to upstage a moderator.  Next time, post your message one minute after mine, not before.
Shame on you.

So the sluttier they are, the more clothes they wear.
I trust they'll return to their purer ways for the next show.

I sure as hell hope they're being sarcastic there.

They must be. I can't imagine what's game-enhancing about having the models wearing pants.

I wasn't being sarcastic.  I think additions like Double or Nothing, some of the skits that have been going on with the Banker's models, plus the sudden addition of a bit of a personality from the Banker have made the game much more entertaining than it was at the end of last season.  Not only that but we have really limited the amount of special prizes and surprises, which just got out of hand at, yet again, the end of the last season.  It's not perfect by any means, but we are slowly improving in my opinion.

IMPROVING?!? I'm sorry, but I must respectively disagree here. That addition of Double or Nothing completely reeks of copycatysm from the Aussie version, and that was quickly axed after, what, a few measly months?

As for the models... where are the legs?!? I want them to wear those cute and skimpy Santa's helpers outfits all the time. ;-D

Except, you do realize, I fervently hope, that the only people who will notice this are about two hundred fervent game-show geeks, and their indignance will have exactly zero effect on the show's rating.

Oh, and one more thing: how come this is copying and us lifting Millionaire wholesale from the British version is heralded as one of the greatest friggin' game shows of all time?

Come on, you guys, it's a network tie in. NBC wants people to watch this dumb Grease auditions thing.

/wondering how NBC's going to work around the "dirty words" in "Greased Lightning"

The Double or Nothing thing is a good idea (although unless you have a real gambler, you probably won't see much gambled)...What I'd like to see is the "Chance" offered in the Oz version (a player takes a deal, then gets down to 2 cases-one larger (usually much larger) than the deal, and one smaller (usually much smaller) than the deal- the player can give back the deal they made for the original case)...It could be really tempting to give back say, a $80K deal for a 50/50 chance at $400K or $500...
