Vintage Dick Clark sighting
« on: June 18, 2006, 09:50:17 PM »
Turner Classic Movies is showing the Sandra Dee movie Gidget this Friday night at 8:00 PM (ET).  One of the things TCM does to promo its upcoming schedules is to show, in between movies, vintage trailers for the movies that will be airing in the future.  The trailer for Gidget is presented by Dick Clark, standing behind what I'd guess was his American Bandstand podium from the Philadelphia days -- in glorious color.  Dick would have been about 29 at the time the promo was filmed, and he looks much younger than most of us are used to seeing him.

Dick doesn't do much that's memorable, as the trailer is mostly clips from the movie (and I don't think Dick does the voiceover); he just appears at the beginning and the end, and says that we'll like the movie as sure as his name is Dick Clark.  (That, and he said this was also the first time he was doing such a promo.)

Unfortunately, these promos only air irregularly, so I have no idea when the next chance to see the promo will be.
