[quote name=\'catkins522\' date=\'Dec 17 2005, 01:45 PM\']I agree.  It's mainly a LMAD and TH all in one.  DoND will go away after the 5 shows, just like WL.

I think it's important to differentiate here between people's opinions of the game when played for fun and when it's being played for real live money. I seem to have gotten a rep from a few people quick to make a knee-jerk judgment who think I hate the game wholesale and without exception. Not true. I think it's a dismally boring game when no money is involved. But then, so's poker. As a GAMBLING game, which is what we will be seeing this week, I think it has great potential to be both entertaining and awfully compelling television.

So I think condemning the game itself to failure based solely on the game itself, and not how it's presented on television or the emotions that all of that money will no doubt bring to the surface, is awfully short-sighted.

At the risk of sounding like a wuss, I played the DoND game on line several times. After I got the hang of it, I started playing like it was real..and found it quite nerve-wracking. We'll have to see how Howie is at creating suspense. As a couple of people have said, you have to hope the big money doesn't disappear too fast - but I'm looking forward to the show. It's Let's Make A Deal meets Treasure Hunt. If it creates a "what would I do?" feel at home, it may do well.

Well, thanks to Chucky for that analysis. I'm going to believe him, cancel the TIVO, and free up 5 hours of time that can instead go to surfing the net for porn.

Or, a better idea, how about we wait and watch the f'ing show before we make an assessment.

Because this little kid seems to make his directives on good tv based on an internet site, makes me think he'd be perfect for a job as a network  programming executive. Or a toll booth operator.

Hey pyramid - I don't know how it works but apparently it's quite popular... it's pretty costly on eBay right now, as the rumor is that they're sold out in stores.

Enjoy your vacation!

At TV Guide.com there is a 10 minute video highlight reel that shows some gameplay.

Be prepared to pay alot in person, too....For some reason, board games (which, i don't know why, are more popular in Europe than here), cost ALOT. Scrabble will set you back $50, as will most board games...

In Italy last month, i looked at the home version of Deal there, and just couldn't pull the trigger on a purchase of a game in a language i can't  decipher, even if the rules are simple..

That's not at all true, at least not in all cases We buy games from Germany fairly often, and while sometimes there is a premium price, very often a game costs LESS than the equivalent US game does here.

(Which reminds me, I really ought to pull the trigger on a German copy of Traumfabrik...)

Interesting. A Ravensburger game perhaps? Some of those wooden thinking games are a bit cheaper, but every quiz-show home game was 30-45 euros each....Scrabble and Monopoly too, and just about everything else that I looked at...

Check out ebay for Prendre ou a Laisser (the italian DoND) game and the price is likely to be high.

Interesting. While it's not a game I'd play online any more than once or twice, it does give a good feel for the gameplay, and I think does a good job at showing that this could be an interesting game show to watch.

I fear the main focus is going to be the models, however. :(

Yeah, not like that's a bad thing, though. Really the only "model" that a certain someone on here will pay attention to is one Claudia Jordan. Let's just watch and see what happens and then make a true assessment on the whole gameplay. Chumley, go back to your toll-booth.

I'm getting help for it! :-P

(and yes, the help is coming from somewhere OTHER than Bed Bath and Beyond)
