PYL questions...
« on: June 16, 2003, 06:30:02 PM »
first of all, i'm looking for the following pyl sound cues:

1) The win cue.
and
2) The return-from-commercial cue.

also, i'm getting digital cable tomorrow, and i'll have it until september 15th, or something like that. any idea if either

1) The Michael Larsen episodes
and/or
2) The \"Sufferin' Succatash\" episode

will air in that period of time?

also, i'm messing with the patterns in BigJon06's Whammy game so the patterns are the same as PYL when larsen was on. back in march, i saw someone on the old board post the 5 patterns. does anyone remember what they were?

thanx.

Seeing as these just ran, I wouldn't count on seeing them again soon.

2) The \"Sufferin' Succatash\" episode

I have no flippin' idea which one this is, nor would I know an airdate if I did.

The question was \"Which well-known cartoon character is famous for uttering the immortal words \"Sufferin' Succatash!\"?\"

everyone said Sylvester, but peter said the answer was Daffy Duck.

at the end, Mel Blanc calls Peter on a telephone at his podium in the voice of sylvester, correcting him. After the phone call, Peter announces that all the players will get a second chance.

The SUfferin Succotash PYL episode is from 1985, hence it is not a part of the 200 episodes GSN currently runs. If they do acquire new episodes in the future, it may turn up again.

btw: episodes of pyl air 4 times a day, right? that means we should see the larsen episodes again in about 50 days, right? or is that totally stupid? i'm sorry. i rarely watch gsn, seeing as i used to have to go to my friends house to see it.

For the last year or so, PYL was down to airing once a day. Now it will be airing from 9AM-Noon EST on Wed AMs and on weekends at 11:30AM EST. No word on whether the Wed. airings will be shows already seen or not.

Which is still seven episodes a week. So it should take just as long to get back around to the Larsen shows as it ever did, assuming they go through the same block of shows. Longer, I suppose, if they run new ones.

Since no one has answered the last question yet:
3,16,13,10,18,8,6,14,7,5,15,11,17,2,12,1,9,4
5,18,11,13,3,6,15,7,1,9,14,16,10,2,4,12,17,8
11,6,10,12,1,4,14,16,2,9,17,8,13,15,3,7,18,5
17,10,15,13,2,8,18,16,12,3,5,11,7,4,1,9,14,6
18,16,10,5,11,9,2,13,17,7,4,15,12,8,6,3,1,14

Those who watched Big Bucks know the blue pattern was the one Ed and Janie practiced on (2-12-1-9-4), but I was suprised to find out that it was the second one Michael capitalized on most often.

However, we don't know if this is true or not, remember, some people when they got the GSN newsletter, the Wednesday Vertivision block was Whammy, not PYL. We'll have to see...

IMHO, give me PYL over Whammy any day.

Isn't the PYL return-from-commercial cue just the last few seconds of the end theme? Or are there differences?

I can think off the top of my head of at least two different \"we're back!\" stings they used on PYL  (I think one was used for each round)....was there a third when they came back for the second question round?

Hehe, it feels like old times again....

Anyway, this episode in question is the \"Sylvester\" episode, or The One Where Mel Blanc Makes A Call.
Off the top of my head, this episode was in the middle of June...episode #44...darnit... *looks at guide*

#449, June 14, 1985. As to if GSN will show this ep; remember guys, GSN really did acquire new classic eps. Also, with GSN showing this PYL Wednesday morning block, they now show EIGHT episodes per week.

Furthermore, the Wed. morning blocks are \"new to most of us\" episodes, which is what GSN showed a little bit of today. They showed eps #311 to 316 today, so if I do my math right...this episode in question wouldn't even air until November of this year, and even then, the Wednesday morning block will go bye-bye...I'm sure of it.

As for the cue in question, I'll betcha five bucks he means the \"piano theme\" cue after the game is over, and the winner's earnings are announced.

Wow, that was a mouthful of Whammy. :-D

The return to the second question round WAS the last seconds of the closing theme.

As far as spins round cues, like Chris said, there were at least 2.  One was a variation of the PYL main theme, and another was just that weird \"humming\" cue heard during the intro, when previous winning/losing contestants were shown.
