GSN.COM Will Provide Election Information, Games and Polls

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Game Show Network (GSN) is spoofing the game of politics with an election special about the underdog/celebrity candidates in California's Gubernatorial recall race. The one-hour special, WHO WANTS TO BE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA? THE DEBATING GAME, will include the first political debate ever produced game show style and will air Wednesday, October 1 at 9:00 PM ET/PT exclusively on GSN. The special will chronicle the campaigns of five candidate/contestants whose names will be revealed later this week in a press conference to be held in Los Angeles. The announcement was made today by Rich Cronin, president and chief executive officer, GSN.
\"Politics is the ultimate game and the California recall election is one of the most bizarre contests in American history,\" said Cronin. \"While our state has serious problems, our viewers appreciate light-hearted game-related entertainment, and this strange election provides GSN with a rare opportunity to allow some of the candidates to debate in a unique new format.\"

WHO WANTS TO BE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA? THE DEBATING GAME is GSN's first effort in covering the game of politics. As part of this strategy, the network is establishing GSN NEWS and will produce GSN NEWS UPDATES on a regular basis in prime time throughout the election. GSN will interview many of the 158 candidates for the GSN NEWS UPDATES.

The lucky five office-seekers will vie for a campaign contribution prize of $21,200, the maximum corporate contribution allowed by California law.

If the winning candidate/contestant is actually elected governor, Game Show Network promises not to ask for any political favors in exchange for the money.

One celebrity candidate, Hollywood icon Angelyne, quipped, \"Politics is a game, but I make up my own rules.\" The glamorous entertainer continued, \"Everyone is King and Queen, but I want to be the princess, and I'll get the job done.\"

WHO WANTS TO BE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA? THE DEBATING GAME is being produced by Mindless Entertainment with Mark Cronin (CRAM, \"The Surreal Life\") as executive producer. The special will be taped in front of a live audience in late September and will feature the five candidate/contestants who will square off in a wide-ranging debate of the issues and non-issues. This will be the first political debate in history with buzz-in answers and bonus questions. The special will include packages profiling the candidates and their campaigns, and it will even have video of GSN correspondents confronting front-runner candidates with questions about the five underdogs. And who of the GSN five will get the most votes and win the $21,200? That will be answered Oct. 7 on Election day.

Mark Cronin gave his production company the right name.

I thouhgt it'd be a better idea if all the candidates did a week of Hollywood Squares.

This week:

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Steve \"Integrity\" Young (comedian)
Gary Coleman
Arianna Huffington (columnist)
Larry Flynt
Angelyne (pinup model)
[ok, ran out of celbrity candidates]
Martin Mull
Mama
Betty White
and center square Gov. Gray Davis

-Greg
\"I'll take Larry Flynt to block\" ;-)

Minor nitpick, but you do realize that there are only nine squares, right?

Gallagher (the Sledge-a-Matic comedian)
The lead singer of the punk band TSOL whose name escapes me
The porn star whose name escapes me

But of course, with the other names I'm now over limit, too.
