Debating Game: GSN enters California Gov. race
« on: August 11, 2003, 03:56:47 AM »
The story is on Steve Beverly's website. Apparently GSN is making a special to air October 1 with five of the candidates facing off and the winner of a GSN web poll receiving a $21,200 campaign contribution.

Sounds like a fun show.

Sounds rather interesting.  Strange, but interesting.

You mean GSN isn't going to do \"candidates' week\" on \"Russian Roulette\"?  If they did, RR could give new meaning to the phrase \"dropping out of the race\".

Sorry folks -- I'm more interested in the picture of Thom McKee and his family.  Scroll down TVgameshows.net and you find Thom, Jenny and their three sons -- ready for action (oops, wrong show).

I wonder what GSN is going to do about giving EVERY candidate \"Equal Time\"\"? Doesn't it have to be offered per FCC rules?

Probably not if all the candidates are taken from the looney bin section of your local legislature, such as Gary Coleman and that porn star (or, in Prof-speak, \"actress\") Mary Carey who's also committed to the race (I think GSN would likely get her on for eye appeal).

But if they don't we'll have uncomfortable moments like this on the overnights.

This may be interesting to watch-It's not like it's going to be a regular show, and everyone knows, especially all 53 million Californians, that the current \"Race\" for governor is a load of BS. Hmmm. May have to check this out.

Well, it sounds nice, but what does this show have to do with reviews of new video games?  They should call the show \"Total Recall.\"
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Answering a question with a question - do national cable networks fall under equal-time rules?
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

Plain and simple, this idea is crap. GSN is [quite distastefully, but taste apparently went out the door months ago] taking advantage of a controversial situation and hucking it to get ratings.

And similiar to the video game block, they can't take the heat at their boards.

I agree, to an extent. But it's not like this hasn't been turned into a silly media circus already.

Which is part of my problem. It's all over the place already, and GSN once was the only place to get away from it.

But hey, this is the same network that now embraces should-have-been-long-forgotten reality show contestants as celebrities. At least it's not a special about the Kobe Bryant case. *shudders*

Don't give them ideas, dammit! They'll have Fremantle screw up TTTT for a Kobe special!

As long as it is a one time special it does not bother me. I like it when they mix things up a bit.
