Family Feud question

I have not seen any official announcement, but reportedly the new season of FF will be dedicated to the show's 50 anniversary.

There have been some set photos popping-up on Facebook and other sources, bearing the "Celebrating 50 Years" logo, and mention of a special anniversary show having been taped.  I was wondering if any word on if it will air on the actual anniversary date (syndicated or prime-time), or just maybe at the start of the new season come in September.

One thing I don’t understand is, to the best of my knowledge they’ve never acknowledged the 10th, 20th, or 25th seasons. Yet the Celebrity version celebrated its 10th and now they’re celebrating the franchise as a whole. Weird.

Maybe it’s because the current version has had so many hosts, and they wanna treat each tenure as a separate run?

That is indeed quite odd to me as well.  What's odd to me too is, while it will be 50 years exactly on July 12th, there were some interruptions from the series when it debuted on network TV and syndicated too.

I know from June 1985 until early July 1988, Feud was not on daytime.

Also it vanished after the 1994-95 syndicated season, the last year with Dawson back at the helm.

It has enjoyed a non-stop syndicated run now since Sept. 1999.  It is sad that no anniversaries of the current version of Feud were observed, outside of the Celebrity version as you mentioned before.  That is indeed a real head scratcher.

I think that, with the longevity of the current run of Feud, it gave people a way to find out about the show’s origins. Add to the fact that BUZZR (a far more accessible outlet today) has been airing classic Feud reruns for years, and the fact that there’s a channel on Pluto that’s dedicated to classic Feud along with one dedicated to current-day Feud, there is more than enough content that comprehensively covers 50 (on and off) years of Family Feud.

With all of that history, I think that is more than enough to compel Fremantle to recognize Feud’s 50th Anniversary.

To what you said, it also didn’t help they really didn’t lock down a host until Steve Harvey in 2010, so it may be a bit awkward to mention the previous hosts…especially since they didn’t leave on the best of terms, and one of them has since passed away. A blanket anniversary, which happens to be the golden one, seems more fitting, IMO.

I think it gets confusing for viewers, cause yeah, sure, you could say that 2009 was a 10 year anniversary for the syndicated run, but people have eyes and can see that Richard was kissing women in 1979, so the math for them doesn't add up. Wheel was able to circumvent this by acting like daytime never existed. Considering that a grown man in 2000 wasn't able to identify Chuck as the original host of Wheel on Greed, they didn't need to do much to convince viewers.

With Wheel acknowledging its 50th last year and Jeopardy celebrating its 60 year run a couple years back, I think we might be past the point of acknowledging the syndie milestones.
