Much as I adore Vanna, I cannot help but wonder why she is still needed anymore

Because she's Vanna White.

Yeah, I'd just say she's more of a hostess than just a letter turner and does it out of tradition despite the clear technological advancements. Over the years, there's been plenty of great moments from her interactions with Pat and Ryan. When she retires, I think they will replace her, not because they need to have someone by the puzzleboard, but so that Ryan isn't flying solo and there's some chemistry to keep the show afloat in the openings, closings, and taped segments.

I maintain that digitalization didn't make Vanna's job obsolete because Vanna's job was always superfluous as far as the puzzle board itself was concerned.  In 1975, there could have been a board design where stagehands swing the trilons just as they were already doing on shows like Pyramid.  Vanna's (and Susan's) job is and was not too far removed from that of a model.  Unnecessary for the "game" but terribly important for the "show."

My point was only that ever since the moment that the first bonus round puzzle filled itself in just fine without Vanna doing anything, it was clear that Vanna had achieved Peak Window Dressing. Her only actual function was whatever riff with Pat they did at the end of the show. No other interaction between host and "hostess" whatsoever, especially when they stopped introducing her separately from Sajak.

If you chose to take it personally, well, that's a you problem.
