Apparantly, there is a new Primetime trivia-based US game show in the works that will be shot in the coming weeks in Portugal and they are looking for American contestants.

Wasn't the last season(s) of Mental Samurai taped in Portugal? The Version I Heard Was, to make it easier to produce, there was only one version of the chair mechanism, so all countries taped their versions there.

I have a feeling that this trend of taping game shows outside of the home country was behind the BBC displaying the taping locations of at least some of its shows at the end of each episode; it definitely does this for University Challenge and Only Connect.

Oh no, it's not much to do with that - C4 do the same, it's because they have regional quotas to fulfill (i.e. they have to make a certain percentage of shows outside of London) and that helps show them off.
