If we're counting teasers, I remember from the early '70s on The Dating Game.  Some episodes began with a male voiceover with a deep but subdued voice slowly describing some of the contestants, shown one at a time against a soft black background IIRC.  But after that faded out, they went right into the standard opening sequence.

The one time there was a teaser/cold open on "What's My Line?" that had nothing to do with a panelist's death was when they teased Sean Connery as a Mystery Guest with a film clip during the height of Bond-mania in 1965.

Nickelodeon Double Dare? Technically, the contestants are outfitted, situated, and in position to start the opening stunt before Marc Summers' intro.

GSN aired quite a few of those.  IIRC, I think they only did it when one of the contestants was a celebrity.

Yeah, I guess that’s a matter of personal mileage.

I think you’ve got a point, even if I might not necessarily agree because I think gameplay wouldn’t be considered part of a cold open.
