What's strange is this particular episode of "The Wizard of Odds" was taped on May 8th 1974, more than one month after Bobby's untimely death, and Don DeFore spoke about Bobby in the present tense, implying that Bobby was still alive.  I do not know if he was unaware of Bobby's death, or if the show was aware of it but felt it was in poor taste or too shocking to discuss it during a daytime game show in that era.
Most likely, DeFore and the show's producers were simply unaware of Buntrock's passing. He had been living in South Dakota, and his obituary ran in the Rapid City Journal the day after he died. Considering his location and the fact that Hazel had been canceled eight years earlier, it's unlikely that news of his death traveled very far or very fast.

Looking at that screen grab, I can just picture in the back of Alex's mind saying, "Damn, I want one of these on my mantle at home with MY name on it"!

Sorry for the slight bump, but a couple came to mind...

I remember Jeopardy had a crawl when a clue about Benazir Bhutto was recorded before her assassination. The J! Archive shows the airdate (12/26/2007) to be the day before her murder, so I assume it may have been delayed for a preemption (at least in the New York market).

Also, the infamous VANNA'S PREGNANT (or EXPECTING) puzzle that was edited out of the broadcast and substituted with an on-location filler. At the end of the segment, Pat said they played another puzzle and showed a still frame of the contestant's score.

Depends on what you mean by a "new" episode, but there was a G.E. College Bowl episode from around 1960 that had a question along the lines of, "You are standing on the far side of Mercury from the Sun. How long will it take for your location to receive sunlight?," and the "correct" answer was, "Never, as Mercury always keeps the same side pointed towards the Sun." (I think this clip appears in the movie Diner.) A few years later, somebody discovered that Mercury rotates something like three times for every two orbits.
