Possibly unpopular opinion, but I miss the days when foreign versions of U.S. shows didn't pull a Reg Grundy and simply copy the American set with minor differences. I'm sure it's more economical to take the American blueprint and add minor differences, but it just feels so generic.

In this economic environment, it's a miracle they didn't just shoot at Haven, reskin the digitals and find willing Canadian travelers.

I know it's been a while now, but when they did the Canadian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, they just flew everyone down to the existing New York set.  Since Price is Right is supposed to be a limited series I suppose they could have done the same thing here.  From what I've read, all the episodes were taped in a week-long period in mid-December.

That would make sense, but I think everything going on politically it's probably impossible. I wonder how that would work with prizes and everything.

I would happily take an all-expenses paid flight to sunny California to escape the frozen Great White North at this time of year (Would I have to go home after the taping?).

Considering they had only eighteen people show up recently to a taping at Haven, they wouldn't have to fly many down before they'd start paying the seat-fillers anyway.

I wonder how that would work with prizes and everything.

Everything's denominated in CAD.  Your Grocery Game products are maple syrup, Kraft Dinner, Nanaimo bars, ketchup chips and poutine gravy.
It was a golden age of daytime network television... Game Shows... Hosted by people who actually knew that the game was the star... And I wish it was still that way - both that game shows were on all morning and that they were hosted by actual game show hosts. - Bob Purse, Inches Per Second

I wonder how plausible it would be to transfer all the Canadian prizes to California as well. I know there are plenty things that purchase and use that are essentially the same no matter a border (and obviously many a Canadian has been on US Price and won), but I figure there are also plenty of brands specific to Canada that would want their shine.

A lot of the examples of shows filming outside of their country of origin are shows with primarily cash prizes, so all you need to do is bring the people.

I feel like one of the few examples I can think of is Raid the Cage US which films in Mexico. So, if they can get all those prizes down there, which isn't far, I guess it wouldn't be a stretch for a Canadian production to do the same.
Me: Of all of the game shows you've hosted besides Jeopardy!, like High Rollers or Classic Concentration, which is your favorite?

FWIW, the two tapings I went to in Toronto admitted less than 10 rush ticket holders due to the large quantities of invited contestants who would have been "flown down." The studio also seats about 60 more people than the current Haven setup.

Most of the brands that were mentioned on-air were recognizable to me, with a few Canadian specific brands being featured as well. I don't think what I'm about to say is too spoiler-y, but I'll put it behind markup just in case. Most of what they gave away were on monitors, as the studio is on the 12th floor of the building. They didn't have to saw a car in half like on $ale to get it up there, but the lack of space and ability to maneuver prizes around were noticeable to those who know the show really well.
