I too am hoping for other-host TPIR. Kennedy seems the most likely choice, seeing as it's from the same era as what's been airing on the channel, it would pair with either Body Language or Password Plus if Buzzr so chooses, and -- if we're meant to take the riddle literally -- neither James nor Davidson used the skinny mic.

Would there be any hope for Dennis James' Price is Right - or are the fur bans still in place?

We can only speculate. Neither James, Kennedy, nor Davidson has aired on Buzzr, and neither Buzzr nor the Barker Era channel have aired any fur episodes with Barker. Buzzr DID air episodes of Cullen Price Is Right that gave away furs, but seeing how different that version of the show was compared to the version most associated with Barker, it's no surprise the network didn't receive any blowback about theoretically disrespecting Barker's legacy.

While I'm not expecting James to show up (although I'd be pleasantly surprised if he did), I think Buzzr could test the waters with it if they so chose. The network has aired multiple other series that gave away furs, and viewers seem to accept it when the show is obviously of a different time. Even though it's Price Is Right, if Barker isn't there, then it doesn't damage his reputation. (If anything, it would bolster his reputation -- "See? Barker didn't allow that as a prize!" I think we're still a long way from seeing any Barker fur episodes.)

The optimist in me wants to believe that IF Kennedy TPIR is coming to the channel and IF it does well, then there would be nothing stopping Buzzr from trying out another non-Barker host.

I am fully expecting it to be something small. I will happily take any version of Price we haven't seen in a while, though.

neither Buzzr nor the Barker Era channel have aired any fur episodes with Barker.
It was probably a mistake when they added it but there is exactly one episode with a fur coat that airs in the rotation of TBE.

This is not necessarily the fandom I'd be doing cryptic riddles with given its tendency to overblow expectations and reason.
That tendency is hardly unique to game show fandom.
This signature is currently under construction.

The "fur ban" was never an actual, mandatory thing. It was a request by Bob that was honored at a time when being in Bob's good graces seemed like a good idea to the people at GSN. Buzzr could air absolutely anything with a fur coat tomorrow if they wanted to.

I would also discount James' Price because he did not use a skinny microphone.

In fact, Kennedy would be the only option given the clue (if it even is a new version of Price) because Davidson also did not use Bob's mic or anything like it.

I agree with the best options being 1/2 hour Price that's only been run on streaming or Kennedy with the obvious hope being Kennedy. Unless anyone can think of any other game show that Buzzr has already run that employed the use of a skinny mic and had a subsequent revival that Buzzr hasn't aired yet.

That's what drives me crazy. For years growing up, I used to think this was some contractual obligation or Bob wouldn't clear his appearances unless all the fur episodes were taken out, but hearing it's just out of deference to his reputation I thought, "okay, Bob's a massive star and one of the executive producers of the show back then, he could possibly pull weight if wanted." Then when he died, I thought for sure there were just gonna go from Episode 1 to honor him. When I found out that they were still gonna skip episodes in the half hour era, I couldn't believe it. The amount of people that might possibly care about furs being offered on the show to cause some sort of stink that Buzzr/Fremantle doesn't want to have to deal with would probably register a negative two on the Richter scale. It's silly to continue to kowtow to a frankly very vain policy in order to please the reputation of a dead man. Why not focus on chopping out all his sexism and mild racism since you're all hit and miss on that?

It's always been bonkers to me that first episode has never(?) been rerun to honor the show. Not even as an exception to this self-imposed rule. Just clips of the intro and Any Number chopped up around the IUFB as if they had offered a coat from the Ed Gein collection.
Me: Of all of the game shows you've hosted besides Jeopardy!, like High Rollers or Classic Concentration, which is your favorite?
Alex Trebek: I'd have to say To Tell The Truth, because it was the first time in my career that I got to sit down while I was hosting.

It's not like Buzzr is 100% anti-fur.  A good chunk of Monty Hall's Split Second and TANLMAD episodes have furs as prizes in their episodes and they have been rerun for decades.

I don't think Buzzr will have a mass outrage from viewers nowadays if they opened up the Barker/James archives to allow any and all episodes, including furs.  If you want to respect the Barker Era streaming channel, then don't air them there, but you can still air them on Buzzr -- the channel that already airs shows with furs in them.

I think an operative clue is "skinny mic," as in the host is holding the same mic Barker and Kennedy used on TPiR.
From what I've seen of ToC, Bob frequently didn't hold a mic at all.

The clue seems to drop the choices down to Kennedy TPIR, half-hour Barker daytime from the 70s or syndicated Barker nighttime episodes from 1977-80.

Would love to see the Kennedy shows again, but syndie Barker nighttime was the first time I saw TPIR when I was young, so that would make a nice memory.

It's kinda hard for me to get excited about much of what they do--I suppose their social media posts have taken the place of Club AM or GSN Live in terms of viewer engagement. I see Whew!, TalkAbout, Match Game Hollywood Squares and Split Second all arrive to great fanfare and get shunted away rarely to be seen again after the initial push. I would love if we get a regular rotation of 30 mins TPIR but I'm also ok if it's something that we all missed and should have expected.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

Just saw the ad.
2/9 Drew Price is Right and Celebrity Name Game are being added, 1pm.

Makes sense for both given that they've both got regular streaming channels now. Both feel like a pretty natural fit, surprised Celeb Name Game hasn't appeared more regularly on the schedule.

It's a bit of a bummer that they didn't dig deeper, but it'll be nice to get a couple more shows on the schedule.

(pushes glasses up nose) Actually, "superfans" is the term the current version of TPIR uses to refer to its most ardent fans -- Barker's "loyal friends and true" wouldn't have made sense in the Carey era -- so by that definition, the superfans should be very pleased with this announcement. (derisively snort-laughs, pushes glasses up nose again)

So they are just pulling from the FAST channels, except instead of Barker episodes from the '70s, it's episodes from the Carey Price channel.

I wish them luck... the fact that their own promo acknowledges they've tried Celebrity Name Game on Buzzr before would seem to indicate that they should be aware no shows from the 21st century have had any real impact on the channel (with the exceptions of Temptation, which is a weekend morning throwaway, and PAX-era Supermarket Sweep, which feels exactly the same as the '90s version of the show). But this scheduling change doesn't require them to spend any extra money, so that's a plus, I suppose.
