Stumbled across this interesting link on the radioinsight.com website, which also touches upon the TV side of media as well:

Back in 1959, Fred Silverman was attending Ohio State University and wrote a thesis on the history of the ABC Television Network during the 1950s.  Fred put together an interesting behind-the-scenes look at the network at the time, touching upon both the daytime and primetime goings on.

It does have slight mentions of the game shows that appeared on ABC during the 50's, but moreso this is a good read for those who are overall TV buffs who wanted to see how networks were operating in the early days of Television including ratings, show revisions, costs per program, and which sponsors bought which shows.

Fred later went on to work at WGN in Chicago before having noteworthy stints at all of the Big 3 Networks bringing on and killing off game shows during his tenures.
