Silly WOF question

I just had an interesting thought. On the original WOF with Chuck Woolery, and also in the early run with Pat Sajak, when contestants called for an "N", they said "An N as in Nancy"... was this possibly a nod to producer at the time Nancy Jones?

That's certainly an interesting thought, for some definitions of "interesting."

Then who was the M as in Mary?

I just always wanted to see a player ask for a K as in knife.
