Yes, Mark, one can be conservative and gay if they so choose. Doesn't make it less surprising.

Fortunately, my desire to accept the weekend's teachings of Jon Stewart is winning out over my urge to post a short list of things today's GOP would rather gay people *not* be.

Wow, I guess there's always a good time to bash Republicans?  There are things to take issues with as far as the Republicans go, but to stereotype Republicans as hating gay people?  That's absurd!  Nobody is wishing that gay people would stop being "alive!"

/except for perhaps Muslim extremists

A clock that counts down from 60? Trilons (from the first season)? I dunno.

(Why "The $20,000 Pyramid" but not "The $10,000 Pyramid" or "The $100,000 Pyramid"?)

I admire the use of the word "log" in their name.

It is absurdly easy to come up with a rather large list of Republicans who have said hateful things about gay people...  Not *all* Republicans hate gay folks, but a lot of them in power sure seem to.

It's really not just one side.

I've met left-leaning Democrats who hate gay people as well.

Fair point, but at least the Dems don't make it part of their campaign platform.

Contrary to today's Daily Beast article I'm hardly a fan of the GOP. Just for the record.

I was kind of wondering how "libertarian" turned into "right wing" for him. Not everyone falls on the neat one-dimensional right-left binary that people like to push.

Interesting, because that article's not the first place I've seen that has Drew down as a Republican. Not saying he is, but I'm wondering if that article is using info from other sites as a reference point.

Well, there's a point here that I remember discussing with our dearly departed friend Mr. Zinkin, and that is this: these days, being "conservative" and being "Republican" are quickly becoming separate things.

And being libertarian is different from being conservative or Republican.

(Don't blame me; I voted for Kristen Davis.)
