Well, to start, those are the most ridiculous clues you could give for "shadow". What's wrong with "Sunlight, ground, cast..."?

"Lamont" and "Cranston" would probably do it quicker.

Of course, anyone younger than Betty wouldn't have any idea what you're talking about.  "Groundhog" might be helpful.

As for the legality... beats me.
legally isnt her guess 'the'
Official rules state: If a Guesser’s answer contains more than one word that is commonly linked together (such as “peanut butter”), we accept the first word as his/her answer and judge accordingly.

For example, if the Clue Giver gives the clue “President” for the Password “George” and the Guesser gives the two-word guess “George Bush,” then we accept “George” as his/her guess and rule the answer correct.  However, if the Clue Giver gives the clue “President” for the Password “Bush” and the Guesser gives the two-word guess “George Bush,” then we accept “George” as his/her guess and rule it an incorrect guess.

So, technically, yes. However, I think that there would be enough leniency with this, especially since a password would never be "the".

Why would I do this? My partner might guess "Station" after the first clue, "Detective" might lead somewhere, but "knows" can be interpreted as "nose," and therefore not all that good a clue.

Nevermind the fact that I would go several other routes before resorting to "The Shadow Knows."

Is that even a legal clue, since it's just the password in another language?
