Globe: Sajak quitting Wheel "in 2 or 3 years"

Not sure of their credibility when it comes to celebrity stuff, but this article contained an interview with the man himself.

Among the quotes:

"In the next 2 or 3 years, either they'll get rid of me or I'll tell them 'That's enough'. I'll be stepping down soon, not just so someone else can try it, but because I'm getting older."

"I'm at a point in my life where I'm not very driven. I've had a good run."

Let the mounds of speculation begin.
Say! Ty Treadway might be looking for work by then.

Chuck Woolery was on QVC this weekend...and looking good.  Maybe he can fill in for a while?

Or howsabout Rossi Moreale?

If Sony follows Merv's tradition of hiring unconventional, little known personalities, they're not going to look for someone that's the game show host type.

I'm sure we'd all love to see Chuck return to Wheel. Ty Treadway probably wouldn't be a bad choice. Bob Goen could also ge given another shot. I doubt Rolf would be interested. Rolf himself admitted he wasn't right for that show.

Here's more speculation, with the eventual departure of Pat Sajak, would this also mean that Vanna may also step down?

Oh, good call. And the taping schedules won't overlap because Temptation! will be recording their full season of shows during the weekend before WOF starts taping.

Pat has repeatedly stated over the years that he and Vanna plan to step down at the same time, and the two have discussed the matter before. Now whether this holds true or not is nothing but speculation, but I'd have to believe that it'd be the most appropriate thing for both to do, and what I'm willing to place bets on.

Also, Pat's contract is up for renewal in I believe 2009 (it's either that or 2010). Either Pat will call it quits then, or, as I've stated my prediction is numerous times over, he'll sign one more 5 year deal, then call it quits. If anybody has read his comments on his website and on Pat's place on "wof.com," you'll know he has no desire to be on the show for 10 more years, but he doesn't feel that he's entirely tired of the show just yet...

As for replacements, after saying repeatedly "THERE IS NONE" *much like a certain other Ezekial's fanbois," my personal favorites would lie with Bob Goen and possibly even the likes of Jeff Probst (and trust me, I know the chance of either happening is still a longshot).

As for getting an unknown, I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibility, but much like what we saw about 6 months ago, a high publicity job opening in the game show world can cause quite a stir amongst some big names in Hollywood, especially when a bunch of unknowns and other random names are thrown in the bucket...
"I'm dressed as one of the most frightening figures known to man...

A TV game show host."--Pat Sajak

Did I just see someone cite The Globe as a credible source?

That's all very interesting, truly.  But the truth of the matter is I don't know what I'm having for lunch today.  Right now, Pat's just referring to some indefinite date in the future, made all the less definite by being years away.  Five years from now, he may decide that he can't think of anything he'd like better to do than keep hosting Wheel until he's 85.

NBC and Jay Leno are right now seeing the folly of looking years into the future and picking an exact exit date.  Sajak's too smart for that, so he gave a vague, non-committal answer to a question he must have been expecting in the wake of Barker and TPIR.  I'm all for The Speculation Game, but I don't really think the Globe story is earth-shattering information.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

Didn't we start hearing the same things about Bob after the 25th season of TPiR?   It took 10 years and how many lawsuits before he finally left ?
