EDIT: and apparently the German Millionaire is also changing their rules slightly...according to a poster at Bother's Bar, the players at the beginning can pick one of two ways of playing: The normal way, or the daring way. The daring way is still 15 questions, but you get a (still unknown) 4th lifeline from the beginning. The tradoff is you lose the 10th question milestone, so a miss at questions 6-15 would mean you go back to the question 5 amount.

Ooohhhh. I like that! What's the new lifeline?

They didn't say...their new season starts on Sept 3rd so we might here something then, but I translated some news on the show's site and apparently if you go daring, not only do you get the 4th lifeline, you get extended time on the phone a friend...

Well, hell. After all the trouble I went through to acquire the Conduit ITC font, they go and change it. :)

Seriously, I love the cosmetic changes, and the theme's not bad too. I'd still like to see that new tree actually played though.

According to my German contact it's going to be a phone a friend but with a difference. So it could be phone an expert or have an extended time period with another friend but none of us are sure.

Just got finished watching the torrent. I too, like the new format...and wonder if something like this isn't headed to the U.S. down the pike.

It's not that the show isn't broken at all, it's just that I would imagine producers probabbly enjoy that middle tier the most..it weeds out some of the (semi) useless players while still giving them some good potential drama. By the top tier, they're likely throwing fastballs at you....at the bottom tier, they don't expect you to bunt.

So? Why not get quicker to the middle tier? 2 questions @ 500 and a grand works for me.

The other reason I forsee more minor changes....after 9 years on the air, the different countries are starting to deviate from the solid structured original plan (which had an equally solid structured contract regarding format/set/music/etc). Isn't there a country that just came out with one that is painfully cheap looking , compared to the original model?

Davies has already tinkered twice...what else does he have up his sleeve?

I believe you're referring to the Nigerian version that was mentioned here earlier:

Outrageous. I've seen local access shows that are better produced. The mics sound like a Skype conference.

I believe, at least what the email said, that $12460 from my checking account went to the top prize.

Speaking of the top prize, I scrolled through the video looking for the graphic with the prize tree, and I didn't see any graphics -- the computer I'm on has no sound, so I couldn't hear it. Was there any gameplay in that segment? And what is the top prize?

The video had no gameplay, but the top prize is 10 million Naira, or about $79,151.50 American, as of today.

Speaking of theme/title changes, you think when Austrailia's version restarts, they'll use this one? (from 2005- it's about 1:40 in the clip)

Nope, as in 2006 they used the UK one with the logo forming (2004-2007). It's possible that they could adapt the new opening titles for the shows return as it is 20 months since the show last aired.

I finished watching earlier tonight. The music was little more than a remixed version of the familiar music. I didn't mind the change one bit. The money tree provides for different decisions during the game (I like that the "free guess" is for less than double, since there's zero risk on the part of the player, but to get to that safety point, a player risks £19,000 to win £30,000 more)

What I liked less was the shortening of the first tier. Sure, it's the easy questions, and I'd rather get to the good stuff anyhow, but the first five serves two purposes. First, it gives players a chance to ease into the game with easy questions. Second, when someone does manage to miss an early question, well, you can do the Nelson point-and-laugh.

/How would that work in England?

Ho-Ho!

By the way, how did you get to see it? I'd like to see it too.
