It's highly unlikely to happen, but wouldn't it be something if they called upon some of the classic hosts to fill in for Meredith? I can see either of the brothers Narz, for example, doing a fine job with this. Also, since they seem to value host-contestant interaction highly on the daytime show, even Bob Barker--now there's a really long shot (and yet another T.K. reference)--would be a good choice.

Yes, I know: ain't gonna happen. It does, however, have the advantage of not putting in Meredith's shoes anyone likely to be auditioning for the job on a permanent basis.

EDIT: By the way, what was the last game show to employ a substitute host (other than for April Fool's Day stunts on WoF and J!)? Was it The All-New LMAD?

I'm thinking maybe it might have been "Hollywood Squares" (the 1986-1989 version), when Jm J. Bullock filled in for John Davidson.

No, I think they're talking about guest hosting when the main host is genuinely unavailable, not stunts like Marshall for Bergeron or the fruit-basket-turnover GSN did a few years back.

In terms of a sub host for Millionaire, I'd like to go off the board and pick Pat Kiernan for $50. He's Davies' new best friend, right?

That's the way I understood and answered the question too, which if he means it that way, also knocks out the GSN April Fools' shows as well.

I don't know that they're getting manicures together or calling each other at night to coordinate wardrobes, but Kiernan would be wonderful at WWTBAM.

This sounds like the winner to me (and shame on me for forgetting it!). All the April Fool's stunts and the Marshall/Bergeron stunt don't count as I have phrased the question. I was indeed talking about times when the host genuinely isn't available. In these days of taped shows it's a rare occurrence. TPIR, for example, hasn't had a guest host since Dennis James filled in for Barker during a week back when Dennis was hosting the evening version. Syndie WoF and J! never have had guest hosts, except for stunts. Neither has FF or WWTBAM? (until now). Guest hosts were necessary back in the days of live TV; the tradition continued to some degree even when they went to tape, but it's pretty well petered out in the last couple of decades. Even in the 1980s it was pretty rare.
