How big (or tall) do you think the big Pyramid WC board was? Some say it was as tall as a two-story house. Is that true? Plus, how did they build that sucker?

I'd say it was prolly about the same height as the HSq/H2 board, which IIRC I read was about 30', or roughly a three-story house. As for building it, it's most likely plywood on the backside. On the front, put some blue canvas fabric across the front (80s Pyramid), and add some lights, there you go. Of course, it's a little more elaborate than that, but you get the idea.

The Squares board was no more than 15 feet. Most (if not all) celebs could not stand straight in their box (like Bruce Vilanch, for example), and had to crouch walking to their box.... If each floor was 10 feet , as you suggest, there would be loads of headroom on each tier.

30 ft? Thats pretty damn big. I recently saw a 1985 $100,000 Pyramid promotional pic with Dick Clark on it. Dick was standing in front of the big board, pointing upward at the big "$100,000" sign. He looked like a midget next to that thing, it was hilarious! Another thing I wanted to know was how that managed to change the top dollar figure at the top of the pyramid from $25,000 to $100,000? Was it like a crane or somethin? Or a cherry-picker?

Regarding both '80s Pyramid and pre-push-screen Wheel of Fortune, I *have* wondered about the mechanics of their trilons. They light up, and they have to put more than one on some/all of the "axles". I used to wonder how they kept the wiring untangled and why the whole column wouldn't even budge when a letter was turned, and I still wonder a little.

They were fairly sturdy, but the columns did noticeably shake more than a few times. That's why you had a gentle touch like Vanna there.

Sounds about right. Having stood next to the old HS board at NBC, I estimate the bottom row was approximately six feet in height. Three rows would come to about 18 feet total height.

I thought I remembered hearing the board was 18 feet for the Marshall and Davidson versions, and 12 feet on the Bergeron version. No wonder Bruce had to crouch...it's not what you think. You guys are sick.

As a game show fan, I love the new menu board at work. The value meal section is made of lighted trilons. The bulb and its support are stationary, therefore the wiring does not get tangled.
