Okay, I'm thinking if he's certain enough to post the freakin' episode numbers, that challenging him for his source is really kinda unnecessary, don't you?

I say it again: get laid.

Well that answers my question as to whether Beat the Clock is a Narz or Wood episode.  How long has it been since these versions have aired on GSN?

The "Password" is from the daytime repeat syndication package, so it's been aired before on GSN at least once not too many years ago.

The only time I've seen anything of the Jack Narz "BTC" was a glimpse of the opening in the titles of "Faux Pause" (from the half-season at the Little/Helen Hayes Theatre in NY, with the video guy changing the slide colors all psychedelic--far out) so if those shows have aired before, it's been pre-Dark Period, if any.

When GSN first went on the air they were airing the Narz "Beat the Clock" that was produced in Montreal.  By August 1995, they switched to the Gene Wood version, and as far as I can remember, never went back.

I have one Narz and one Wood ep each taped in 1997, and two Wood episodes from 1998 (I believe this was right after they got the G-T rights back).

I'm glad a few people will be able to fill in the gaps, but believe me, that show was not very good in either version.  Done on the ultra-cheap, and it was not comfortable to watch Gene Wood host.  It was fun to watch Tom Poston blatantly cheat and get away with it, though.

Agree with Curt...it was hard to get excited over "the big money" being $200. Even for 1970-whatever, it was painful.

I want to be sure the Bob Denver shows are going to be on early SATURDAY and not early Friday.  At the GSN site they mention Friday and their grid makes no mention of Password after BTC either day.

I hope the BTC show is a Narz with the 1970-style set.  Back in broadcast TV days I could only hope to see that version about half a handful of times on grainy UHF...if I was lucky enough to have access to the color set.

Then just tape both nights :-P

I'll be sure to be watching to see the Narz version, and speaking as someone who remembers those Saturday mornings at 8:30 AM right after Child's Play (just after the dark period was over), I know how unfcomfortable I was with seeing Gene Wood hosting, he definately had his talents behind the cameras at his announcer's mic. But, you have to give him an E for effort.

According to GSN's schedule, it's still Friday night until 6 AM (and that's true of other networks like TBS, Nickelodeon, TV Land, etc.).

The set didn't change until Gene Wood took over as host--it'll just depend on what color curtains they pull out for this episode (they weren't always consistent on what backdrop curtains they used).

Also, until Gene Wood got out of the announcing position and positioned himself to hosting, the couple had to do a stunt before a celebrity of the week was introduced and also, the entire logo was changed when Gene took over the hosting duties.

I don't believe it!!! This post makes sense. And it provided useful information.
First, OU pulls that overtime magic against Pitt last night and now this.
It is truly the age of miracles.
Anyone know why Jack stepped down as host after three seasons?

I would guess the chance to work closer to home on "Concentration," there may have been some gap between gigs, but we were still getting Jack's BTC into 1973.  It was nice to see Gail.

Yes, but in the not-so-distant past, The Little Sisters Of The Poor would've made mince meat out of the Bobcats. We take our blessings as they come in all their seldomness and are very grateful.
Ditto on the "nice to see Gail" remark earlier in this thread. Did she quit the biz after BTC went bye-bye?

Good theory, but when Narz stepped down from Beat the Clock in 1972, Concentration was still airing on NBC daytime.  I don't think Jack was that clairvoyant; he probably got sick of commuting from California to Montreal (which is about the same as NY to LA).  I mean, even if Doe Narz worked all the flights, that's still tiring.

Still, I've never really gotten a good answer for this one.  He obviously didn't have a falling out with G-T.

The only other thing I can think of that might play a part in Jack's departure (and this is speculation but not enough to change game show history) was that perhaps the rules regarding Canadian personnel started to kick in and since Jack and Gene were Americans, that led to the hiring of Nick Holenreich?

Or it could be that G-T liked Gene's hosting style on the BTC clone "Anything You Can Do" and wanted to get him away from that, forcing Don Reid to replace Gene with Don Harron.

Either way, that question probably didn't come up at the recent Game Show Congrefs.

Per this interview with Gene (http://\"http://www.crosswinds.net/~gsfan/gene1.html\"), issues with Canadian authorities led to the show stopping production in 1974 (although how many stations were running it at that point, anyway?), and he left Anything You Can Do because it appears they didn't test the stunts very well.

This question came up on the GSN boards the other day referring to the Bob Denver Tribute: My Time Warner Digital Cable DVR already had the schedule updated to reflect the shows on the Denver Tribute..so it helps (sometimes) to have a DVR!

Similar but different--my digital cable box also reflected in its GSN listings that Bob Denver was being paid tribute to, but didn't bother to change WML? over to PASSWORD.

Hadn't seen Narz BTC in a long time, but the memories of that superimposed clock (with the gap) all came back to me.

Yes, the 20th Century Fox TV logo appeared--but it was just a slide, it wasn't the film with the fanfare, and the audio was just applause over Dick Hyman at the Lowrey.

And it seems to me that the turnover from Narz to Wood was also brought on by the show switching syndicators from 20th to Len Firestone.  Since 20th was still selling the '71-72 season to some markets (including Chicago, where WGN aired them in '72-73 after not airing the show for a year), Firestone would seem to want some sort of differentiation.  Therefore, Wood becomes host, they tweak the format and make a set change.  There's your differentiation.
