Title: 2 GSN Questions
Post by: gsfan85 on May 13, 2005, 08:23:13 PM
Hey everyone,

I was just wondering:

-How far away are we from the Cullen finale of Blockbusters?
-When in 1981 is the 10AM Family Feud run at this point?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Another five or six weekends we should be at the end of BB's run. IIRC John will play his second Gold Run of this series at the top of tomorrow's airing. It will take another eight or ten shows for him to finish his run, depending on length of matches. Two more shows after his finale is the last show.

I'd like to see Bill's run start again, even if it would come at the expense of bringing something like 'Body Language' back.

I'd like to see Now You See It take that spot, but you'll probably get your wish. This I wonder. When BB87 reaches its end in a couple of months, will they restart it or might we get Double Dare or some other short-lived G/T show?

Knowing GSN, they'll probably restart it. I'm thinking back to the days of "Hot Potato", which, IIRC, went though the entire run a few times before being pulled.

GSN wasn't the only network guilty of that.  How many runs did it go through on USA (I'd venture to guess a lot more than GSN)?

Doug -- and the countdown to 1200 continues (<<JimMorrison>>This is the end. . .<<end/JimMorrison>>)

But see the problem is USA ruled back then :P.

Not to mention, IIRC, GSN repeated their 8am-noon block from noon-4pm as well back in the Hot Potato days. Exact same episodes, exact same shows.

Yes, and considering that was a Barry-Enright show, I'd rather have seen another short-lived B&E show in its place than yet another cycle of "Hot Potato".

For a show that didn't last that long, it certainly had a lot of runs on USA and GSN.  Hmmm....were the ratings for the reruns THAT good?  :)

USA aired about five cycles of HP from 1987 to 1989, plus part of the run aired in late 1990. GSN aired two and a half cycles in HP's daily rotation on that channel. It also aired on weekends on GSN during the six month Dark Period in 1997-98. In 1984-85, CBN aired HP for about a year, or roughly two cycles.

I wouldn't mind seeing Child's Play going back into the rotation; it would seem a good fit for weekend mornings.  However, it's a show that kids wouldn't necessarily watch (in fact, Blockbusters is a great show for learning the alphabet).

Other good shows for kids to learn something:  Wheel, Concentration (ha ha ha), Jep, Password, Throut and Neck, Wintuition.

Throut and Neck can only be used for education about silicone.

Show the kids the original "21", and teach them how to cheat.

I obtained the Van Doren-Stempel episode in a trade 4 years ago, my nephew watched it with me.  So yes, I am a bad influence on little game show fans. <g>

This non-wud be a funi post on HP reminds me of the Brad Garrett's Hot Potato posts in ATGS. With Brad out of TV work after tonight, maybe Sony could develop BG's HP(for those who don't remember, Garrett made his first game show appearance on Celebrity HP, shortly after his $100K win on the first season of Star Search)

Brad Garrett's Hot Potato?  With all due respect, the idea of that reminds me of the (unfortunately) real idea that almost came to pass: i.e. Charlene Tilton's Match Game (another "Oooh, he/she was a panelist on the original for a week or so, he/she would be a PERFECT host!")

But he could start each episode with a Bill Cosby impression. It could be his gimmick. ;)

SemiObGS: Kenan Thompson on last Saturday's "Celebrity Jeopardy" skit on SNL has taken the championship belt away from Garrett for Best Cosby Impression.
