Title: GS Cue/theme Wish List
Post by: TunaHead on December 03, 2004, 07:04:22 PM
I see there is a thread that is dedicated to the posting of cues, but how about the cue wish list? Here it is....

Personally, I, as well as probably many others, have been looking for the theme to the Lange version of Name That Tune, or the opening cue that the band would play during the contestant search in the audience, or for that matter... ANYTHING from the show.

Feel free to post your wish here!

Other-
-the Theme, in the clear of Cash en Carlo
-The main theme, in the clear for Der Preis ist Heiss
-the main theme to Crowther TPIR

Wow...I've never even heard about this, now I'm curious too.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this, unless I skipped something, but I'd like a clean version of "Jeopardy!" 1979.
I'd also like any of the Alan Thicke-composed Wheel of Fortune prize cues that haven't already seen the light of day. I'm about to sound like a music critic, but I think it's interesting that this seems to be the first show where the music package indicated some rock & roll influence.

No, "Take Ten" is the Final Jeopardy! think music. Jeoaprdy! 1979 was titled, I think, "Frisco Disco" and was used as prize music on "Wheel of Fortune" for years afterward.

From TPIR:
Most of the older cues (not counting the 2003 ones)that are available especially the Race Game prize revael(that's my FAVORITTE cue).

Others:

TTD win cue
Some neat Chuck Barris music used from the Newlywed Game & other shows
The American Gladiators theme with the tiffany-like drum sound
And of course, the original LMAD theme from the 60's & early 70's.

Pretty much what Robair said, but to the Worths we must also add the Wheel Of Fortune prize cues that aren't already out there and also some of the odd Stan Worth/Alan Thicke stuff from "Blank Check" (which I think also surfaced on "Joker's Wild" when Alan Thicke was doing the music).

We got the "Gambit" closing already.... we have the opening on a piece of tape somewhere. The Garson stuff is rather closely held and I'm a little surprised even that much from "Gambit" has surfaced.

Garson's Battlestars opening and closing theme was located by John "Skynet" Chartier, who in 2002 put it on his legendary if short-lived Game Show Concert website. Maybe Garson's music isn't as closely held as it once was.

Hey All,

You know what would be nice, anything from the U.S. version of "Catch Phrase" from 1985, whether be it the main theme (don't know if there was just one theme or an open or close) or any cues from it.

I have been searching for this theme ever since it went off the air.

I really miss it as I do miss the show very much.

Let me know what you can do.

Thanks so much,
Chris

For me, the most wanted are:

1. Whew - CLOSING theme (the opening pales in comparison)
2. Jeopardy 1978 ("Frisco Disco")
3. Money Maze
4. Hit Man
5. Dream House - both versions
6. Celebrity Sweepstakes - the second theme written by Alan Thicke (the first, by Stan Worth, is out there)
7. Tattletales - 1974 version (the one in the trade curcuit is actually a slightly different version which was used for the final season, 1977-78)

My brief most wanted list...

-Dream House (1983 version)
-Sale of the Century (1986 main theme)
-TPiR: Clean version of the Million Dollar Spectacular opening music, the music currently used in Race Game

I'm sure all of these would fit into the "wishful thinking" category, but I would like to have the following in master quality:

-"Fun House" 1988 (all musics)
-"Hollywood Squares" 1986 & 1988 (all musics)
-"Wheel of Fortune" 1992 theme & a 1989 cue that I can't describe and that I don't know the title to (way to go, me!)
-"Finders Keepers" (all musics from both Eure's & Toffler's versions)
-"Make the Grade" (all musics)
-"Think Fast" (all musics)
-"Starcrossed" from "The Price is Right"
-The Big Sweep cue from "Supermarket Sweep"
-"Jeopardy!" 1991

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure there's lots more!

If you're talking about the episodes, yes they do exist, Sandy Frank has them, and would have taken them to GSN but was not able to, apparently due to music clearances expiring since 1996, the last time that version of Tune aired in reruns(on FAM). I suspect that's why we haven't seen that or the other perennial Sandy Frank show, Face the Music, in reruns in nearly a decade since. None of the themes from the 1984-85 Tune have hit the trading circuit AFAIK, but a lot of episodes of the show exist on the trading circuit.

Yeah, that should be all. Some of that stuff I know exists, but sometimes you can find it easier than where you know, you know?

Yeah. Me neither.

I'm Ssurprised that nobody yet has mentioned wishing for a CLEAN version of the original "Storybook Squares" from the mid-to-late 60s.  Pretty much every music cue from the Squares which came out in the 60's and early 70s was a gem.

Well, for one, the SS theme is the same as the original HS theme, so that would be on the 2nd GSN CD.

And people are complaining it isn't in good quality. It is because this is that it is the most good quality we will get out of that. GSN actually got the master copies of the master themes for each CD and this is probably the most master we will get for a while...

That's "all"?  Why not throw in another 30 shows while you're at it?

I'd love to hear 2 pieces in the clear.

The Race Game music (the saloon-y running stuff)
The Switcheroo music

Hell, anything from Price would be a treat.

Not GSN--Varese Sarabande Records.  GSN just had their name on it.  It was the Varese Sarabande people who did some of the leg work and put together the two albums.

Actually there *was* a different theme for the version of "Storybook Squares" which aired on it's own as a Saturday Morning kids show on NBC around '68 or '69 (I have the episode that's floating on the trade circuit).  Take out the goofy slide whistles they used in the theme and you got a theme that would sound good with many non-children's game shows at the time.

Later incarnations of Storybook Squares were incorporated into the daytime HSq as sort of a "children's week" special -- thus it was not necessary to switch to the original Storybook Squares music for the special weeks.

Just out of curiosity, when HSq did incorporate the Storybook Squares into their daytime shows, did they continue to redo the entire set (including the contestant area & storybook entrance, like on the Saturday morning shows), or did they just do up the celebrity board?

Sorry to offend anyone if I did. It turned out I was majorly wrong on most of that one post, lol...

Anyways, I had a feeling the SS theme was Bob and Merrill's theme because I have the SS GSN aired on Halloween and they played the one from the CD... So I just assumed that. I guess that was one from Children's Week.

They used "Bob and Merrill's Theme" for the 70's SS shows, but the 60's shows DID use a different theme (http://\"http://www.classicsquares.com/storyclose.rm\").

The set was redone to look like Fantasyland at Disneyland, with a castle set for that area between the contestants and the game board that was usually blank at regular shows (but had the crawl machine and art card easels), although the contestant desks and Marshall's podium remained the same.  There was also a different logo for the "Storybook Squares" shows and a different opening.  Two "heralds" (probably played by Harry Friedman, Gary Johnson and/or Art Alisi, I would expect) in costume mimed playing a trumpet fanfare, and then Kenny Wiliams stepped up in a town criers' costume as "Bob and Merrill's Theme" struck, holding a piece of partchment, and said, "Hear Ye!  Hear Ye!  By royal decree, two families will compete for valuable treasures today on--'Storybook Squares!'  And now, here is the master of the 'Storybook Squares,' Sir Peter of Marshall!"  Marshall came out in standard suit and tie, one of the "heralds" would give him a hand mike, and then he introduced the celebs in their costumes.  He then would say something like, "and we'll meet our families after these messages."  Fade to commercial.
