Title: Some "Wheel of Fortune" Cues
Post by: KyleCHaight on November 11, 2004, 03:25:25 PM
From various sources, I was able to composite some clean cues from "Wheel of Fortune." Here, we have the 1995 Theme, the Opening Fanfare and part of the Toss-Up music. Enjoy.

It could be the 1997 theme. . .I'm not exactly sure. I know it was used in the early days of the "touch-panel" puzzle board.

IIRC at one point, WOF's official site had the 1997 opening and closing themes in their entirety.

The 1995 theme is a bit slower and more "big-band" like. I think it's the on the Nintendo 64 WOF Video Game.

The opening fanfare you posted is a remixed version of their opening theme for when they're on the road. They've used it since... I believe around 1996-97. A full version of the original variation was played on the 3000th show, IIRC.

And there ends my GS geekiness. :P

Nice stuff Kyle.

I liked the original Opening Fanfare better, but the remixed version is OK.

A 7-second toss-up piece is great.  Now if we can just get the full piece, I'd do my inpersonation of Pat singing or humming over the music while the players try to figure out the toss-up.

Well several times a week the toss up Music goes on longer than that 7 second clip. When I finish setting things up here in the new Chartier Broadcast Center, I will capture a longer clip for you people.  (translation)... I need to connect my sound cables up between my VCR and my computer.  It will be done shortly.

The "big band" WOF theme was introduced in September 1994, was played by the Mort Lindsey Orchestra on Merv's New Year's Show that year, and still can be heard on some of the original Wheel Of Fortune slots (some have a new Steve Kaplan music chip).

While we're on the subject of WOF cues, I've got a excellent quality version of the 1989 Changing Keys theme (it's actually the closing theme, not the opening theme that's on 80stvthemes.com, although you can copy and paste the portion between 1:17 and 1:30 to create the opening theme) right here:

"Excellent" quality? My friend, that is OUTSTANDING! Where'd you dig up this gem, seriously! I wrote to Mort Lindsey a while back and he said he lost all the tapes with those '89 cues, not to mention the main theme. This is TERRIFIC! I can't say thank you enough, Casey, great find! Thanks for sharing! :D

While we're all sharing WOF cues, here are some prize cues I have from that era.  Since I don't know much about this area, I'm not sure if these are really common or not.  They're Windows Media files, and all are around 1 minute each.

Those cues can actually be found on the Sega CD version of WoF, if you pop it into an audio player...bought it in 94, and it was the first clean GS music I ever found in those pre-internet days, even if most of them were edited (only the 89-92 main theme, as posted here, ran its full length, IIRC).

Actually, they were muffled like that when the show moved to CBS.  You can hear these same muffled Strutting on Sunset and Nightwalk cues on the Xmas episode from 1992.

No, and I've been looking for that damn show for years, to have a clean copy of that music. (I'm not about to put a cell phone up to a slot machine just yet.) I used to have it, but I can't find the tape anywhere. I believe the just-formed Brian Setzer Orchestra was also a part of the show that year. And I said to myself, "The guy from the Stray Cats has a BIG BAND? What will they think of next?" And, four years later, "Jump Jive An' Wail" hit it big... and the rest, as they say....

I have WOF 87, 89, and 92, New Hollywood Squares, Classic Concentration Beginning and end, Super Password end, PYL beginning and end, Double Dare (Nick) Beginning, Scrabble, TTD (Wink), and the audience shouting "WHEEL OF FORTUNE" at the beginning of the show from 87. I don't know how to post them so people can download them, so if someone can tell me how, I can post them if wanted.
