So far, Todd has only created the wide-angle shot, but so far, it looks incredible!

You know what?  I don't CARE.  I can deal with the $100,000 being a different font, or the music being a bit off.  If the game is half as good as the screenshot looks, I will queue up to get it just like everyone else.  Feel free to make an error-free program, if you don't like it.

You might not have meant to, but when you phrase your comment the way you did: "it's not totally accurate, but", it comes off sounding like so much tactless whining.

At a minimum you are guilty of choosing your words poorly.

And now people are going to think I'm some kind of ogre that picks on people for no reason.  Not true.  I am indeed tired of the tactless whining wherein people bitch that the colors are wrong, the music change is in the wrong place, yet they still download the program.

Frankly, I do like the font better than the one used on the program.  That I agree with.

So true. Stuff as minor as "music fades here" kinda grinds on me. Agreeing here with Lemon, this is a very promising tidbit and with polish (just like FF) will be so above and beyond spectacular.

Where suggestions are allowed, IMHO, is where stuff is just plain wrong (SFX, format and the like).

 [/quote]
No, it's never allowed. What did you pay for the software? Zippo. The lesson that needs to be learned, I will reiterate for the 47th time, is that there is a great difference between "You screwed up Feature X", and "Hey, great program, but I just thought I'd point something out about Feature X that I think can be better...what do you think?"

One is constructive criticism. The other is simply tactless. Todd knows this, and he knows the difference, but that doesn't make it right.

I know that the font looks a little off from the Clark version.  But isn't that almost exact to the Davidson version?

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone.  There's still some work to go: drawing chairs, lights, etc. but I thought you'd like to see at least what I had so far.

I don't want to make an issue out of the "whining" but I need to address it.  Because I try to pay such close attention to detail, it's easy to pick out something that's inconsistant, no matter how small it may be.  Believe me, I'm a game show fan as well and I really do want to know if there's something I can do to make my software better.

Just let me reitterate and sum up what Chris said.  There's tactfulness and tactlessness.  I know some of the tactless remarks aren't meant by the writer to be so critical but those of you who are coming across as "whiners" and don't mean to need to realize that in the business world, comments like that, intentional or not, can get you in a lot of trouble.

I think this looks like the Davidson-era set with the Clark-era trilons on the big Pyramid.  I always thought the Davidson set had a much more "finished" look and was in better overall proportion.

Great work...I am really looking forward to this!  I can't wait to see how the set looks animated with lights, etc.  I'm going to place a bet now that it'll beat Sierra's game.

No pressure Todd!! :-)

No contest. If this $100K Pyramid game is as good as the Family Feud game, it'll be good enough for television use, IMO.

That would be pretty cool. In the end credits of a future $100K Pyramid revival, we see "Graphics Designer: Todd Robinson". :-)

This isn't totally accurate! There's no chairs in the winner's circle! What do they do, stand???

;)

I'm joking, of course. To say my mouth dropped to the ground when I saw the screenshot would be an understatement. You did an EXCELLENT job with this. I can't wait to download it and see it in action.

My only suggestions with this would be an option for some type of retro-pyramid with the solari boards as the timer and score instead of LED...

In any case, though, looks TERRIFIC!!!!!!!!

The Feud sets are a masterpiece. So are the TPiR sets.

Chris, I do remember playing the Feud game last year, and loved the graphics, and how close it was to the original. If I can ever get a Feud game going on campus, I know where to go. Hell, they do Family Feud in our student union all the time. I might have to pass the word. :-)

Ya know, I'd tell you not to sacrafice quality for speed, but damn does this stuff look good.
The one thing I would like to see, though, is a way to integrate the scorepanels into the shot of the front-game pyramid, so players had all of the information on one screen. Like a toggle that would insert them in the corners with small diagonal wipes.
Even at that, I'm drooling here.

Please don't hate to ask! This is exactly the kind of design input I would love to be a part of!

Who's got the right idea. (Hell will freeze over presently. ;)) Consider the top left and top right corners of the screen when you're looking at the shot of the category board. Kinda dead space, right? It would be useful, either full-time or on a toggle of some kind, to be able to display both score readouts in those corners. The below is a piss-poor representation of what I'm thinking of, just extrapolate it for both sides of the screen:
------------------------------------
|  ---     /
| / 12\  /
| -----/
|    /
|  /
|/
|
|
|
Hmm. Still piss-poor, but I think it gets the point across. Except you would fill that triangular wedge with what would look like a camera shot just of that team's "score wedge" on top of their desk. Make sense?

Post by: Particleman on July 17, 2004, 11:17:53 AM
Ah, I see what you're getting at!  The only problem I see with doing this is people might get confused with which side the scores are for.  It would confuse me, at least.  It might be better to give the game operator the ability to display a camera shot of both player tables by means of a key press.  And as a rule of thumb, I like to keep the visuals close to what you'd see if you're watching the show on your TV set.

It's a good idea though.  If there'd be a way to do something like what you're talking about that wouldn't be confusing, I'd like to add it as an option.

I don't agree. At least, no more confusing than the table shot you allude to. Left score on the left, right on the right.
Quote

I understand that, but I think in this case it would add a great deal of playability to the game. Remember, it _looks_ TV-real, and that's great, but it's _not_ a TV show, and if you can leverage that fact to make the gameplay better, you ought to, IMO. And that's why you toggle it...if someone doesn't want it, they wouldn't need to use it.

Well, give it some thought, maybe you will come up with something you like better. I'm just tossing the concept out there :)
