The phone lines for May qualifying for SM just opened a few minutes ago, and I got this possible caveat regarding those who qualified for a February tape date: a message saying "I'm Sorry, you have already qualified for a tape date for this series of SM shows, please do not play agaon" or words to that effect. Hopefullyt this will be fixed ASAP, unless of course(though not likely) they are defining February's and May's shows as the same series of shows.
Correction: It was fixed later in the night, and I became even more of an outlier :), going 5 for 5 on the questions:
1. Put movie titles in order of body part in title from toe to head(On your Toes, Places in the Heart, Deep Throat, Eye of the Needle)
2. Put the following inventions in order of when invented-earliest to latest(SAndwich Board, Radio, TV, INternet)
3. Put US locales in order east to west(Coney Island, Myrtle Beach, Malibu Beach, Waikiki Beach)
4. Put one-named singers in order of birth-most recent to earliest(Aaliyah, Jewel, Moby, Cher)
5. Put feminists in order of birth-earliest to most recent(Susan B. Anthony, Margaret Sanger, Simone De Beauvoir, Betty Friedan)
-
It worked for me, but I bombed out on Q3:
Put these cable channels in order of their launch, starting with the earliest:
1. E!
2. HBO
3. Food Network
4. Weather Channel
I wasn't sure if HBO or the Weather Channel came first, I guessed HBO, I was wrong.
-
Damn, even Zach beats us mere mortals to the punch on non-spoilers!
I got the same error as Zach. I even tried calling in twice, just to make sure my ears weren't playing tricks.

HBO was first, in 1972. The Weather Channel wasn't until the early 1980s, I do believe, followed by E! and The Food Network.

I got the same message as Zach, sadly. I sent an e-mail to what I think is ABC's customer service department, though ABC's contact page did not really offer any helpful contact information.
Of course, perhaps Zach and I (and hmtriplecrown who snuck in while I wrote this ;-) )just happen to have doppelgangers with the exact same birthday and last 4 SSN digits, who happened to have called and qualified for Super Millionaire within the first half hour of the phone game. Any of the math people on here want to tackle those odds for kicks?

Listen here... I have plans to share absolutely NOTHING with Zach. :-P
The name's Mike, BTW, and no, I'm not touching the math on that. ;-)

A quick Google search shows HBO as debuting in 1972, Weather in 1982, and Food in 1993, and I know E! came before Food, so 2413 should be right.
Dang, 2413 is what I entered, at least I thought I entered it. Or maybe I misheard and the question was starting with the latest. Either way, the game said I got it wrong. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
-
I got the message too.
Are you sure they didn't decide that people who qualified last time can't qualify this time?
-
The aforementioned problem is fixed. I got through within the past 10 minutes. I got to question 4, where inventors' birthdates sent me packing.
First Q: Put "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy" in order.
2nd Q: A math question about putting values in order (8x0, 10 squared, square root of 64, 100/5)
3rd Q: Putting children's lit characters in order of debut (Harry Potter, Eeyore, The Grinch, The Mad Hatter)
4th Q: The inventors--Nicola Tesla, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Bessemer, Robert Goddard. Right answer: Bessemer, Bell, Tesla, Goddard. I had Bell, Tesla, Bessemer, Goddard.
-
Struck out on #2: ad slogans starting with the earliest:
1) Yahoo
2) Lucky Strikes
3) Fedex
4) "Time to make the donuts"
Never heard of #4, possibly because Dunkin Donuts chain wasn't big in California (researched it after the fact, but never nailed down the time frame). I put #2 first, #1 last, can't remember if I had #3 Fedex second or third.
-
I bombed on the *1st* question...
Put these films in order by the location mentioned in the title, starting in the west and going east:
1. North Dallas 40
2. The Cincinatti Kids
3. LA Confidential
4. The Palm Beach Story
What did me in? I confused Palm Beach w/Palm *Springs* and keyed in 3-4-1-2, thus ending my qualifying attempt for the night. Oh well, maybe tomm...
Chuck Donegan (The Disappointed "Chuckie Baby")

Question One: Put these coins in order of value, starting with the highest:
1. Half dollar
2. Silver Dollar
3. Dime
4. Cent
2-1-3-4
Question Two: Put these measurements in order, starting with the shortest:
1. Distance from Earth to the Moon
2. Diameter of the Earth
3. Distance from the Earth to Mars
4. Diameter of the Moon
4-2-1-3
Question 3: Put these artists in order of when they had their first top 40 hit, starting with the earliest:
1. Elton John
2. Jason Mraz
3. Mary J. Blige
4. Madonna
Sadly, my inability to listen to Clear Channel Crap zapped me tonight, as I had no idea who Jason Mraz is. My guess: 1-4-2-3. Correct answer: 1-4-3-2
Lesson Learned: If you don't know who is being talked about, slap them on the end.
At least the glitch is fixed :-)

Talk about it. I just bombed out on the third question after being asked to put the name of the architect Mies van der Rohe in order....someone I've never heard of!

Attempt #1 (Got to #3)
Put these in order to form the name of a group that monitors the weather:
1) Organization
2) World
3) The
4) Meteorlogical
3-2-4-1
Put these musical rests in order starting with the shortest:
1) Eighth rest
2) Sixteenth rest
3) Half rest
4) Whole rest
It's fraction, kids. 2-1-3-4
And now, the crapper.
Put these baseball movies in order of first theatrical release, starting with the earliest:
1) The Natural (1984)
2) A League of Their Own (1992)
3) Bang The Drum Slowly (1973)
4) Damn Yankees (1958)
I mixed the natural and Bang the Drum. Correct: 4-3-1-2
Good luck.
-
You'd think they'd "wipe the slate clean" as far as the qualification pool was concerned, but NOPE! Thank heavens I didn't try out in February or I would've ran across that glitch too early on.
Anyways, today's Round 2 for the second go-around, Invisioners. Good luck!

E! actually was first known as Movietime. Though I don't think that will affect the placement of the networks in the question.

As others have said, that glitch appears to have been fixed. I played at 10:45 CDT last night with no problem.
My questions:
1. Arrange these letters to spell a form of transportation:
1) T
2) X
3) A
4) I
Duh...1-3-2-4
2. Arrange these authors in order of their first published book, starting with the most recent:
1) Charles Dickens
2) John Grisham
3) J.D. Salinger
4) Ernest Hemingway
2-3-4-1
3. Arrange these European islands in order of their area, starting with the largest:
1) Crete
2) Sicily
3) Great Britain
4) Ireland
3-4-2-1
4. Arrange these movies in order of their premiere, starting with the earliest:
1) Fast Times at Ridgemont High
2) Dead Poets Society
3) Dangerous Minds
4) To Sir, With Love
4-1-2-3
5. Put these international holidays in order, starting in January:
1) Bastille Day
2) Canada Day
3) United Nations Day
4) US Independence Day
My answer: 1-2-4-3. Correct answer: 2-4-1-3. (I thought Bastille Day was in June...)
Good luck to all!

Ouch on the malfunction. At least I didn't have to worry about _that_...
A little sixth-grade biology did make me go out on Q3 last night:
Put the following animals in the order of the number of legs the normal adult has, least to most:
1) Crab
2) Centipede
3) Spider
4) Insect
I put 1-4-3-2. It's 4-3-1-2. After much head-scratching, I and my therapist went online (throwing that in to the end of my session made his head scratch too) and found out that, although the crab has six "walking legs", the claws and swimming paddles are counted too in declaring crabs "decapods" -- ten feet -- ten legs.
Q1: Put the following cities in the order of their time zones, east to west...
1) Provo, UT
2) Detroit, MI
3) Memphis, TN
4) Reno, NV
Q2: Put the following ad slogan characters in chronological order of debut...
1) Marlboro Man
2) Jerod from Subway
3) Budweiser frogs
4) Mikey from Life Cereal
-
Forgot to play last night. Tonight I made it to question #2 and goofed.
Q1: Put these words of a 1970s advertising slogan in order
1. Way
2. Your
3. It
4. Have
Ans. 4 3 2 1
Q2: Put these poets in order from the earliest
1. John Milton (1608)
2. Maya Angelou (1928)
3. Emily Dickinson (1830
4. Sappho (600 B.C.)
Ans. 4 2 3 1
I mixed the middle two up because I was afraid time would run out
-
Got to the 4th one tonight, and I wish to declare once again my eternal emnity for movie trivia...
Q1: Put the words in order to give the name of a 17th century disaster...
1) Great
2) London
3) Fire
4) of
Was thrown off a little thinking 4) might be "The"...
Q2: Albums in order of release chronologically...
1) Rubber Sole
2) Thriller
3) N' SYNC
4) Billy Joel's Piano Man
Q3: Letters in order on a typewriter keyboard, left to right...
(was thinking at about this point they might actually interchange rows too)
1) Q
2) O
3) P
4) W
Look down...
Q4: Movies in geographic order, starting at the Atlantic and going west...
(checking imdb.com for the relevant info after the fact)
1) Boyz N' The Hood (Los Angeles)
2) 6 Days, 7 Nights (South Seas)
3) Places In The Heart (as I figured, Southern US -- 1930's era)
4) Miami Rhapsody (duh)
Put it down as 4-3-2-1, and didn't remember that 2) probably refers to a vacation, say in Hawaii or, as in 6D7N, the South Seas... 4-3-1-2 would've got "Question Five..."
-
Put the following words in order to complete Ella Fitzgerald's nickname
1. first
2. of
3. lady
4. song
CORRECT: 1-3-2-4
I failed at question 2. I forgot the question to post.

Anyone know the answer to this one?
Put these continents in order of square miles of ice covering them, from the least amount to the greatest:
1) South America
2) Asia
3) Africa
4) Antarctica
I thought I tried entering the answer a couple of different ways when this question came up, including what my current guess is: 4,2,1,3.
-
Got to question three before I got totally snowed:
Put these cities in order according to amount of average annual snowfall:
Miami
Milwaukee
Richmond
Pittsburgh
Unfortunately as I tried to keep the order straight, I forgot whether (weather?) it was from most to least or least to most.
Lesson Learned: Write down the criterion (most to least, least to most, earliest, most recent, etc.) as soon as it is stated.

I thought it'd be the pop culture question that killed me
this time, but instead it was the classical arts one....
Q1: Arrange the following words to form the title of a

2-3-1-4
Q2: Arrange the following artists in order of the year they

1) Shelby Lynne 2) Mariah Carey
3) Hootie and the Blowfish 4) Lauren Hill

My question #3 pertained to parts of the ear...placing them in order from inward to outward:
Auditory Canal
Eustachian Tube (sp.)
Earlobe
As well as one other part I didn't fully write down. Question #1 pertained to placing US Cities geographically east to west; Question #2 pertained to years TV shows were set in, starting with the earliest.

Questions I've gotten knocked out on -
1st night - Q4
put the following epochs in order, starting with the earliest-
1 Eocene
2 Holocene
3 Miocene
4 Pennsylvanian
I think correct answer is 4-1-3-2 (although researching this shows the Pennsylvanian as an era, not an epoch)
2nd night - Q3
put the following British royalty weddings in order, starting with the earliest (as best I can reconstruct my rapid scrawls)
1 Charles and Diana
2 Windsor and Wallace Simpson
3 Edward and Sophie Rhys Jones
4 Philip and Elizabeth 2

My five for Tuesday night:
1. Put these words in order to make a body of water:
1) Strait
2) The
3) Of
4) Gibraltar
2-1-3-4.
2. Arrange these singers in order of their birth, starting with the earliest:
1) Ricky Martin
2) Michael Stipe
3) Tina Turner
4) Sting
3-4-2-1.
3. Put these moon phases in order of the amount of sunlight reflected, starting with the least:
1) Gibbous
2) New
3) Full
4) Crescent
2-4-1-3.
4. Arrange these philosphers in order of their birth, starting with the earliest:
1) St. Augustine
2) Rene Descartes
3) Friedrich Nietzsche
4) Plato
4-1-2-3.
5. Put these events in the order they occurred, starting with the earliest:
1) "Hanging Chad" Election
2) New Coke introduced
3) Columbia tragedy
4) John Lennon murdered
4-2-1-3.
Picked tape date of 21 May (after the vacation...). Call date is 19 May. Good luck to everyone!
-
Bombed on question 2:
Put these bones in the human body in order from head to toe:
1) Nasal bone
2) Tibia
3) Clavicle
4) Ileum
I forgot whether the tibia was an arm or leg bone, and went with an arm bone and 1324, instead of the right answer 1342.

Must... listen... to... ordering... criteria...
Got only one right tonight as a result...
1) Levels of education in the order they are normally completed, earliest first...
1) HS
2) Kindergarden
3) elementary
4) Junior High
2) States in order of area, smallest first
1) Nevada
2) Alaska
3) New York
4) Texas
I know Alaska is the largest state in the union and ...
Dammit -- I just realized I put it first and reversed the order...
Try again tomorrow night...

Struck out on Q4, American novels starting with the earliest:
1) Catcher in the Rye
2) Torrents of Spring
3) A Time To Kill
4) Carrie
I think the correct order is 2-1-4-3 after taking a quick peek at Amazon.
Prior to that, Q3, actors birth, earliest:
1) Jude Law
2) Bruce Lee
3) Spike Lee
4) Beonce
I think I put 2-3-1-4
Yesterday struck out on Q2, canals, earliest:
Suez
Erie
Panama

Erie came 40 or so years before Suez. As per a Google search, Love was partially dug by the 1890s, the economic depression of that time kept it from being fully dug. Panama was opened by the early 1900s. Erie-Suez-Love-Panama is more than likely the correct order.

I just hate blowing up on the first question -
Put the following in order of decibel level, starting with the lowest
1 Jet taking off
2 Subway
3 Conversation
4 Typewriter
(quick thought - man those last 2 are close - let's try
4-3-2-1)
"I'm sorry, that is incorrect...."
These guys have obviously never heard the conversation level outside my cubicle.

C. Zhivago
D. Faustiss

I should correct my original post so nobody is led astray here. The Love Canal entry was actually "the formation of the Love Canal Homeowners Association", which I presumed to be historically recent since the toxicity lawsuits occurred in the last few decades. After Googling a bit it looks like the LCHA was formed in 1978, so that moves Love Canal back to the #4 position. I'll trust Zach's research and hope I haven't left out any other key phrases ;-) So make it Erie-Suez-Panama-Love.

-
And as for tonight's attempt:
Q1: Words to form a 1999 movie drama title:
1) Cider
2) Rules
3) The
4) House
The Cider House Rules
Q2: International seas in order from Mexico and going East:
1) Japan Sea
2) Caspian Sea
3) Mediterrenean Sea
4) Caribbean
4-3-2-1
Q3: Books in order of 1st publication, earliest first:
1) Love Story
2) Sophie's Choice
3) Dr. Zhivago
4) Joy Luck Club
And I was surprised at first that I knew of all four of these books on the third question like this!!! Then I was worried that I might flip LS and SC...
3-1-2-4 got me to...
Q4: #1 songs in the order of their charting at #1, earliest first...
1) Like a Virgin
2) I Will Survive
3) Baby Got Back
4) No Scrubs
Good grief!! That's a "Question Two"!!!
2-1-3-4 for 70s-80s-90s-00s...
Q5: States in the order of their Electoral College votes with the most votes first:
1) North Dakota
2) Connecticut
3) Massachusetts
4) Texas
I was beginning to get some nerves here, and was a little scared that Conn. might actually have more, closer to the NYC Metro Area.

They've never AFAIK used 1-2-3-4 as the correct order of answers on the phone game. Only once or twice was ABCD the correct order in an FF round on the show. Rob Gelbman's FF question win(arranging fractions in order low to high) was IIRC a case where ABCD was the correct order.
-
Got to the 3rd question the previous 2 nights, bombing on dances (which also caused problems with me in February's qualification) and another subject, which I don't recall right now. Tonight's result...
1st question: Arrange "Islands in the Stream" in order.
2nd question: Arrange historical events in order from oldest to most recent--Lincoln-Douglas debates, French-Indian War, Lewis and Clark expedition, and some tariff. I didn't even hear what the name of the tariff was. I went French-Indian, Lewis-Clark, Lincoln-Douglas, and the tariff and was right. The tariff had a hyphenated name and was after 1860.
3rd question--Arrange U.S. cities from north to south--St. Paul, Santa Fe, Sioux Falls, San Diego (St. Paul, Sioux Falls, Santa Fe, San Diego)
4th question--Place world holidays in order of where they are in the year, starting with January 1--Boxing Day, Bastille Day, Tet, Thanksgiving (Tet, Bastille Day, Thanksgiving, Boxing Day)
5th question--Arrange these segments of a circle in order, starting with the smallest. What luck. The math major gets a math question. :-D Answers: sextant, octant, semicircle, quadrant. (octant, sextant, quadrant, semicircle)
I'm in the pool for the 17th.

2nd question: Arrange historical events in order from oldest to most recent--Lincoln-Douglas debates, French-Indian War, Lewis and Clark expedition, and some tariff. I didn't even hear what the name of the tariff was
Hawley-Smoot Tariff I suppose.
That sounds familiar. I can't believe I'm saying this but...I'll take your word for it, Zach.

I _think_ I actually picked one of the tape dates that was added (the 18th) -- weren't they doing day before airing?
And there was an A-B-C-D for one of the celeb editions...
Put the following letters in order to form a popular first name:
A) N
B) O
C) R
D) M
Of course, that was for the guy who played "NORM!" on "Cheers"...
-
Put these words to arrange the name of a location in South Africa

With 1-3-4-2, I advance to question 2
Put these supermodels in order of when they first signed as spokesmodels for Cover Girl starting with the earliest

Put these literary works in order of when they were first published starting with the earliest
1. The Last of the Mohicans
2. The Canterbury Tales
3. Utopia
4. The Taming of the Shrew
I didn't know, so I guessed 3-2-4-1, I inverted the first two. The correct answer was 2-3-4-1.
Better luck tomorrow!

When was Utopia published? The Canterbury Tales (14th century) and The Taming of the Shrew (late 16th century) sound like the obvious choices for the two earliest works.

Utopia's Set me Free was a hit in 1980...... Seriously, the book was published in 1516, as per a quick Google search.

Ouch... You see, THAT was what I thought I was going to get for a Q3 book question, rather than Zhivago and the Joy Luck Club and the like...
-
Thought I'd share how I'm doing trying to be a super millionaire. After a few warm-up/practice calls, this is what I got.

Q4: Arrange these rivers in order of length starting with the longest.
Congo
Amazon

...the roadblock. I said 4-1-2-3 when it should've been 4-2-1-3. So close, yet so far. I'll do it all again tomorrow.

Made it! Signed up for the taping on the 18th, phone call (I hope) on the 16th. The questions weren't terribly hard compared to what I've seen here and what I've struck out on before, but of course it's nerve wracking to get through all 5. Let's see if I can remember (all were starting with the earliest):
Q1) Assassination attempts
1) Franklin Roosevelt
2) Ronald Reagan
3) Teddy Roosevelt
4) George Wallace
Q2) Literary works
1) Devil with the Blue Dress
2) Satanic Verses
3) Divine Comedy

Q2) 3-4-2-1
Q3) 2-3-4-1
Q4) 4-2-1-3
Q5) 4-3-2-1
At least that's the best I can recollect. The bottom line is I punched the right buttons. Now to recharge the cell phone.

Tonight was my best night so far, getting all the way up to question four. However, I'm completely buffalo'd as to what the correct answer is:
Put the following measurements in order, starting with the shortest:
1. Pace
2. Nautical Mile
3. Span
4. Fathom
I put in 1-3-4-2, thinking span meant arm span (which come to think of it would be about equal to a fathom). I then hopped on to google and a whole bunch of bridge related websites came up. SO I'm guessing the correct answer is 1-4-2-3, but is "span" an actual length (i.e. 500 miles = 1 span, 1000 miles = 2 spans)?
Ah well, since next week is finals week here at school, perhaps trying to get on Super Millionaire is not in my best interests. Nah.
-
Well, another qualifier emerges from this board. I guess everyone here knows the routine now as far as Super Millionaire goes.
Don't forget there are 2 more tape dates(most likely) to choose from if you make it all the way. Today is Round 6 in this qualifying session. Good luck!

No, that's an actual FF from a celebrity week. It's for NORM MacDonald.

On both Monday and Tuesday, I missed the fifth question.
On Wednesday, though, I qualified with this set...
Steps in baking a cherry pie, first to last:
1. Put the dough into the pan.
2. Bake the pie.
3. Pour cherry filling into the pan.
4. Cover with the top crust.
(1-3-4-2)
Organisms in their position on the food chain, bottom to top:
1. Algae
2. Krill
3. Human
4. Cod
(1-2-4-3)
U.S. tourist attractions, west to east:
1. Faneuil Hall
2. Alcatraz
3. The Alamo
4. Grand Ole Opry
(2-3-4-1)
Cast members in order they joined "Saturday Night Live," earliest first:
1. Joe Piscopo
2. Jane Curtin
3. Jim Belushi
4. Jimmy Fallon
(2-1-3-4)
Bands in order they released their first album in the U.S., earliest first:
1. Puddle of Mudd
2. Green Day
3. Third Eye Blind
4. (I can't remember what it was, and I can't read what I scrawled down!)
I picked the May 19 tape date, so I'll be waiting for the call Monday morning.
-
Yikes! 2 more qualifiers here. This session is more FF friendly than the one in February.
Time's running out to qualify for the big bucks. Today is Round 7. Good luck!
-
And there was an A-B-C-D for one of the celeb editions...
I believe it was during the show's initial August 1999 run where one of the fastest-finger questions went A-B-C-D. It had to do with measurements. I don't remember the exact question, but I remember that the answer was in exact order. I think it's good if they throw something like that in every once in a while because probably nobody expects it!

It was the question to put fractions in order of value, high to low, which was won by the legendary Rob "Zodiac Boy" Gelbman.

Congrats to Little Big Brother for qualifying. I suspect we'll get 1 more qualifier here before this session ends.
Speaking of which, today is your LAST chance to try to make the pool. This session ends at 3AM EDT Wednesday, Nay 19. Good luck!
