Title: Game TV April 4 - Nice additions!
Post by: Blanquepage on March 03, 2023, 02:35:50 PM
Oh, how sweet this lineup looks. Look at 1PM & 4:30 ;D

One of the programming staff mentioned some time ago that they were looking to acquire Wink's TTD, but it looks like they're even diving into more of the B&E library!
It doesn't say "S8" for TTD like it used to, but we'll see. BTB is enough to for me be excited about, frankly.

I'd like Barry too alongside it, but....oh what the hey why nitpick?  This is awesome news!!

Moreso if the Buzzr/GameTV deal is in play, as there's always a slight chance to get BTB on there.

BTC '79?  Perhaps we'll finally get closure on the series finale...if you know, you know...

They've been airing BTC79 for a few months now and they've only shown the ones converted for Buzzr. In fact, they've never shown any classic Fremantle shows that hadn't already been converted for Buzzr. Probably cheaper that way.

I imagine Baldwin's MG at 2:30pm is an error because of 1) Alec's legal situation and 2) GameTV listing it as a half-hour show.

Break the Bank?  Wow - this is surprising news.  Hopefully they'll get to episodes that never aired on GSN.  Some of their leases have been quite small, but I can't wait to see this one!

I do remember that the last time somebody (GSN?) aired it, it stopped on the Monday of the final week.

I emailed GameTV and they replied saying it will be season 2 of Tic Tac Dough (1979-80) which means they'll eventually get to Thom McKee.

Not immediately obviously, even with a VPN, near as I can tell.

I'm playing the old "Let's pray some of our Canadian friends will record Break The Bank & post those episodes on a video-sharing site" game myself.

Not legally. There are a few paid IPTV services that include GameTV in their offerings, but I'm not going to risk linking to any here.

Just a quick note to say that after airing the premiere episode of Break the Bank on April 3rd, today they skipped to the third episode.  Since GSN did the same thing when they ran the show in the late '90s, it's probably safe to assume that the second episode is 'missing".

I think there are a few missing. In the inventory file that leaked some years ago, it shows a total of 97 episodes available. If the episode guide is accurate, there should be 104 with 74 ABC & 30 syndicated.

I've always questioned the 30 syndicated.  I'd be willing to bet there were only 24.  I made hand-written records of game shows back then and we had reruns that started in our area in March 1977.  I remember at the time counting 23 (based on my records) before the reruns started.  I missed one when we were away, which was never repeated as the show was dropped in July 1977.  GSN ran the first four shows and there were two done with each panel (they changed the seats a bit between the tapings).  Some celebrities appeared on more than one panel.

In looking over old TV Guide listings (ours' and quite a few out of town), I can only find panels for 24 shows.  If there were 30, we didn't get all of them on our station (WKBW).

I can't remember in what GSN showed us if there was anything else missing or not.  They aired most of the first six weeks before they dropped the show.  We'll have to see how far GameTV gets in the run and if there's any more missing shows.  I'd love for them to show the Barry episodes after the Kennedy ones are done - if there's fewer than 100 that would still make for a nice little run - but I wouldn't count on it.  Some of GameTV's leases have been quite small.

Not sure if GSN skipped N1 or I just don't have a copy of that version, but I DO have the master of N1 (as well as N19) and while the panel matches a GSN ep I have, the contestants don't. (did GSN run five?), and can obviously confirm at least 19 shows were definitely produced.

If they ran any eps I'm missing here, they can be added to the tally, but I have record of:

Slated: N1: (VTR 7/17/76): Clifton Davis, Elena Verdugo, Jaye P. Morgan, William Conrad, Joey Bishop, Anson Williams, Barbara Eden, Hermione Baddeley, and Pat Morita; Debbie vs. Jeffrey

GSN (Dark Period): Same panel as above; Herlinda vs. David

GSN (Dark Period): Abe Vigoda, William Conrad, Lee Meriwether, Barbara Eden, Joey Bishop, Bob Crane, Jaye P Morgan, Bill Cullen, Anson Williams; Allison vs. Scott

GSN (Dark Period); Same panel as above, Elaine vs. Carl

GSN (late 1999 or 2000): Nipsey Russell, Shelley Winters, Jan Murray, Pearl Bailey, Bob Barker, Vicki Lawrence, Orson Bean, Anne Meara, Jimmie Walker; Kaye vs. Dwayne (possibly N20? because..)

Slated N19 (VTR 8/8/76): Same panel as above: Sandy Lee vs. Richard

I can confirm they did indeed air this one, and yeah they aired 5. On another note, starting next week GameTV's schedule also shows $100,000 Pyramid as "1986" rather than the 1985 season they've been stuck on.

The 2008 rotation skipped over the first two; those were the only two skips of the entire season. I don't know if they aired on GSN before then.

I see, thanks. Who knows, maybe Game TV skipped the additional episode to get the alignment of days back on track so that new weeks don't begin on Thursdays.

That really doesn't fit into what they (or any other) network has ever done historically. Especially for a civilian driven game like TTD.

My guess: Sony/GSN, back in the day, kept their episodes three to a digital betacam tape, and while their airchain and distribution went to digital files a while back, at some point they'd have done a transfer - either for digital archiving, future distribution, or transfer-on-demand once GameTV licensed these episodes. Related, many of Fremantle's own copies are sourced from those transfers of the original tape/film that Sony did when GSN was launched. It's why some 90s GSN branding has occasionally popped up on Buzzr, why THOSE three eps of Perry CS aren't on Amazon, etc.

Episodes B-046 to B-048 would have been on the same tape. (Tapes 1-65 would have been season 1/A at 195 shows, next 15 are B-001 through B-045) Guessing that whatever happened that's caused 46 and 47 to always be skipped by GSN, when the digital transfers of this season were done, either the damage/deterioration had progressed and left B-048 unplayable was well, or whoever was assigned to do the transfer saw 46 and 47 were bad and assumed 48 was too.

I wrote GameTV and here's what Maria Donatelli, Director of Programming, wrote back:
Quote
With most old game shows, like Break the Bank, we are limited to what episodes are available. We try to air the episodes in order however this series has quite a few episodes missing or simply no longer exist. Out of the 100 episodes originally produced, GameTV is currently airing 64 of these episodes. We will be airing this series all summer and you will have the opportunity to watch the entire library that is available for broadcast.

*Jumping up and down in joy* Apart from a few YouTube episodes, I haven't had a chance to watch BtB since its original run, when I was 14 and mesmerized by the board and gameplay! It just goes to show: wait about 50 years and something good may come your way.  ;)

Also: Mitch, you're a Godsend. I'm archiving these recordings to ensure I can enjoy them until the day I die.

Based on # of skips so far and how that hundred breaks down (74 daytime, 26 syndicated), going out on a limb here: likely no nighttime run eps for GameTV, total of ten skips for daytime (of which seven five have already happened).

Glad you're enjoying them and you're welcome. The episodes that successfully record will be uploaded, when I have a chance to do so. The recordings have been hit-or-miss over the last week, so some episodes may not be there or they may be glitchy.

On the flip side of Blaq's thank-you message - I am letting the forum know that I have received several persistent and borderline-aggressive emails and PMs from some folks about these recordings (from people I've never conversed with before).

Honestly. Please stop. These will go unanswered, and I'll be blocking you immediately. The folder goes invite-only if I receive one more unsolicited message like this.

Otherwise, enjoy!

Agreed on the nighttime series not being included, now I'm a bit curious though on the number of available episodes being "97" according to that leaked Sony file of GSN's library.
Perhaps some got lost or deemed unplayable since then, or just inaccurate accounting.

On another note as of yesterday, we're only up to 5 skips. I'm going to try my darndest to keep the guide updated in the thread on the general forum http://www.gameshowforum.org/index.php/topic,34762.msg405354.html#msg405354    (http://www.gameshowforum.org/index.php/topic,34762.msg405354.html#msg405354)

Still 19 blanks, including info on a couple GameTV has yet to air; fingers crossed none of the 5 remaining skips fall in the final week. Would be nice to get that in full.

It's good you got a response.  I've written them a couple of times over the years and never heard anything back.  It's interesting wording that only 64 episodes are "available for broadcast".  GSN did run 5 nighttime episodes in the '90s.  If Barry's episodes were in broadcast quality back then, I wonder what happened to them. I wonder if 64 is all that's been converted for today's formats.  Maybe GSN just converted the handful of nighttime episodes they needed at the time(?)

I didn't think a show with fewer than 100 episodes was too big an ask, but since GSN only aired 27 Kennedy episodes, if we get 64 from GameTV that's still a pretty good deal!  Maybe if we're lucky, another Barry episode or two may pop up on youtube eventually.

Having said that, GameTV is now on their fourth run-thru of the same 65 episodes of Beat the Clock and has just re-started their portion of Tattletales for the fourth time.  It's probably time for that part of the schedule to be refreshed.  Wasn't it said that only 65 episodes of Beat the Clock were converted for airing on BUZZR?  If that's the case, maybe it's a similar situation for Break the Bank.

I haven't had a chance to watch BtB since its original run, when I was 14 and mesmerized by the board and gameplay! It just goes to show: wait about 50 years and something good may come your way.  ;)

I was kind of mesmerized by it too and wondered how it actually worked.  Presumably there were stage hands underneath turning and re-arranging the boxes, but when you look at where it is on the stage, there doesn't appear to be much room underneath the boxes on the bottom row.  It seems like they'd almost have to be kneeling or lying down to reach those ones.

As you noted on your list, another skip today.  By my count, GameTV has aired 48 (as of 6/12/23).  With 16 more to go to make the 64, there are 20 episodes left in the series.  Either there are four more missing, or they're going to cycle back before reaching the finale.

I, too, would like to see the entire last week.  I remember seeing it when it originally aired, but I won't say anything about it until we know if they're going to get to it or not.

As of today, TTD has cycled back to Caldwell (January '86 I believe) and $100K Pyramid went all the way back to episode #66.
Guess they only leased 60-ish new-to-network episodes of each. Eh well.

That's kind of a drag.  They always seem to get small leases of shows and run them a lot - and don't pick up additional episodes for quite a while.  When we read about Tic Tac Dough coming, the info seemed to indicate they had the entirely of season two.  Beat the Clock and Tattletales are in their fourth go-round now of the same 65 episodes.

Hopefully there's some sort of refresh coming soon.

The thought did pop into my head that perhaps they're holding the fresh episodes until the fall.
If a lineup refresh is ahead, September/October would make sense to me.
Summertime reruns of reruns until then.

TTD and $100K are rerunning the episodes from April.

I got the sense that it was just a summer deal. On another note, apparently there were more than 97 episodes of The New Liar's Club produced because some are popping up that aren't on Bonus Round.
