Title: NBC greenlights pilot for "5 Gold Rings"
Post by: colonial on January 24, 2017, 05:44:51 PM
NBC's luck with interactive game shows hasn't gone well in recent years, with "Million Second Quiz" laying an egg and a planned game based on the QuizUp app never getting off the ground before being abandoned last year. But the Peacock keeps on trying.

The latest is a pilot based on a UK format (set to debut across the pond later this year) called "5 Gold Rings". The article says the show promises a smartphone interactive element for viewers at home, but the description of the show leaves a bit to be desired ("it's got .... a shiny floor and a ticking clock!")

It already airs in the Netherlands (as 5 Golden Rings). It is typically quite good, but not killer.

The UK show has filmed on the Dutch set, Philip Schofield is hosting.

With that title, it sounds like it should be a limited-run series around Christmastime.

Don't give the Peacock ideas for other bird stunts.

Not really, but I sort of see what you're getting at.

If they do a celebrity edition, they should include Danny Bonaduce and author Harry Turtledove.

Will we see calling birds, French hens, and a partridge in a pear tree?

Okay, then I didn't want to. Someone else makes a joke y'all laugh. I make a joke, I get lambasted. Whatever.

You didn't make a joke. You "third joke'd" to spell out the intent of the earlier jokes. We didn't need it beaten over our heads that partridges, etc., were being referenced.

Rare that I agree with Chad on anything but he's right. It wasn't the attempt at the joke, it was that the joke had already been made (and you quoted it too). No need to repeat facts already in evidence if you don't have to.

Which is why I didn't mention turtle doves..I was adding the rest in. #can'twin I'd rather thirdjoke a post than be serious all the time. I've had my fair share of seriousness in life.

You only live twice. Once when you are born, and once when you stare death in the face. Life's too short to be serious all the time.

Putting other people down just for making jokes is a sign of mediocrity in itself. I'm not flaming other members or using non-PG language. We should all live in peace here and not judge others for their opinions or jokes.

I do this all of the times. So does everybody. Whether or not I act upon it is another matter entirely.

/Host choices are Tom Brady and John Elway, but we'll be subjected to Howie Mandel.

I was riffing on the five rings element--since Idol is no longer airing I suppose they could give it to Ryan.

The idea sounds interesting (then again I enjoyed Power of Ten) but I presume they'll bungle it.

I think you're taking this a little too seriously. Folks calling out a bad joke is exactly that...you got called out for a bad joke or for letting it sail over your head, I dunno...I checked out of this thread a while ago. You're not the first or the last. Just let it go.

After the debacle that was "Million Second Quiz," no.  That show was bad for both NBC and Ryan.

Hey, now.  MSQ didn't do any permanent damage to NBC, and I'm not sure Seacrest's stock has fallen significantly either. (Also--stipulating that the game and its production was far from perfect--working on that show was the most fun I've ever had with clothes on.)

I'm not sure if you're serious or still trolling (after all these years), but I'm willing to bet that's water under the bridge. It was a flop, no more, no less.

Besides, isn't NBC considering bringing back "American Idol"? Wouldn't they want Ryan for that?

They're referring to me, Jimmy Owen.  I generally have strong opinions and some don't like that.  On topic, I feel that Ryan Seacrest won't do a game show at this stage of his career.  The one NBC game show he did was a mega flop.  On a sarcastic note, it would be more likely that Billy Bush would be considered, now that he has been taught by the President on how to grab an audience. :)  Isn't it strange that Billy is shunned from TV, when the guy who made the misogynistic remark gets to be President?
