According to Deadline, the show scored decent ratings, but not enough to justify another season. Has anyone heard of any proposed new shows for fall '17? I know NATPE is around the corner.

Dang. It had some things I didn't like and it wasn't much game content for a half hour, but there were lots of laughs to be had and the parts I liked I really liked.

A little over a year after it was announced, it appears Byron Allen's revival of the short-lived Lloyd Thaxton game "Funny You Should Ask" will likely hit TVs this fall, with Jon Kelley (who replaced Anderson Cooper as "The Mole" host) as emcee ...

Also, Tribune has announced a revival of the long-running kids/family variety show "Wonderama". IIRC, the original version featured game elements, but it's unclear if the revival will do the same. David Osmond (nephew of Donny and Marie) tapped to host ...

The CNG cancellation was a bit of a surprise to me, given the ratings were fair (there are several syndie shows with worse ratings than CNG). Have to wonder if Fremantle and Debmar/Mercury are planning to launch something else for the fall.

A syndie talk show for Ferguson?
-
Surprised that the announcement came so early in the 2016-17 season, but then again, they were airing Season 3 episodes as early as this summer.
Granted the show was relying a lot on crude humor (even more than Feud), and some of what Craig was doing was getting old (i.e. I will be the cluegiver [thunder & lightning fx]), I will say CNG did help to revive the "celebrity game show" genre by being a show that developed some good celebrity game players that are now familiar faces on the other prime time game shows.
I wish Craig the best in his future endeavors and hope that the brief success of his show, and the ratings strengths of the other recent prime time shows, will continue to add more game shows to the daytime & nighttime schedules.

After seeing it once, I blip through a lot of that stuff.

Did he sign with WWE already?

Or maybe...hosting the 2017 Oscars?!

Shouldn't you be preparing for your press conference to announce your Entertainer Of The Year?

It'll be Cedric.

Anyone think this will end up on GSN soon?

Anyone think this will end up on GSN soon?
I was thinking Buzzr for reruns since it's Fremantle. However, Jennifer Mullin's comment about it being "a format [they] believe in" makes me think they're looking at GSN. Dunno whether they'll get the B+ list names they had in syndication though.
The show aired here when I was at work, so I didn't catch it too often. I thought it was a fun show, in spite of its flaws, so hopefully it won't stay off the air long. I wonder whether Fremantle's disappointment with the ratings is due to Feud being so hot in recent years, so CNG looks like a failure in comparison?

It's already on Pop (The former TV Guide Channel).

Tough break for WGN, who will now have to find a new keystone to fill the gap in the lineup between their 4am-10am Morning News and their 11am-1pm Midday News.
(it'll be news)
-
The show is enjoyable but clearly some of the contestants were not the sharpest knife in the drawer. On at least three occasions, a contestant described Ben Franklin as "a U.S. President." Ugh.

That's mild considering the people I've seen on the show. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if more people thought he was a president*, not just contestants. I also wouldn't be surprised if someone made a similar blunder on Pyramid.
*/All that about people not being that good about history from that long ago and such

Nope, it'll be Jimmy Kimmel! (they just announced it)

Jimmy Kimmel the Entertainer has no ring to it at all.

No, I meant Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the 2017 Oscars. And, to the best of my knowledge, he'll be the third game show personality after Johnny Carson and Whoopi Goldberg to have that elite gig.
As for Name Game's cancellation: I wasn't surprised; its competition at 6:30 pm on WUPA here in Atlanta? The news!

Proving once again that your knowledge isn't all that good, especially considering the can of worms you are opening by counting Goldberg.

Um. aren't you forgetting Conrad Nagel? :)

Feud competes against the news in that slot in New York and does just fine.
And you really don't know how to count because just by looking at the host list I found at least double your estimate, and that's panel members alone. (Certainly several had to have Got a Secret or where mystery guests on top of that.)
-
My level of caring about the Oscars is 0.95 honey badgers, but I just want the record to show that I was referring to Johnathan's pronouncement of Entertainer of the Year. The real news is that I forgot to buy a bottle of ketchup for the office kitchen this morning.

Go back to my original post. The show did ok, just not well enough to justify another season. The ratings in Atlanta don't indicate anything.
Again...I wonder if CNG gets renewed if Feud isn't on a roll, and has the mediocre numbers it did during the Karn era?

Carson hosted "Who Do You Trust?" shortly before the Tonight Show, and Whoopi was center square/semi co-host on Hollywood Squares (Tom Bergeron). Alec Baldwin (current Match Game reboot) co-hosted in 2010 with Steve Martin, so that makes it four.
But Celebrity Name Game will go down in history as the only show to have eight closing logos, as opposed to four on the animated "Back To The Future" (which they showed on a quadruple-screen).
Maybe CNG should've considered moving production to New York -- where the more popular late night talk shows originate from nowadays -- instead of axing it.

The upside of that is what, exactly?

To clarify -- CNG was downgraded in Atlanta on WUPA-TV to 1:30am ET this fall. The station currently airs four episodes of FF in the 6-8pm block.

Shouldn't you be preparing for your press conference to announce your Entertainer Of The Year?
...which was Netflix, by the way.
But Celebrity Name Game knew the writing was on the wall when it got banished to 1:30 in the morning here in Atlanta.

Nobody cares. Seriously. Nobody. Friggin'. Cares.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the game show industry doesn't revolve around what Atlanta does. It wouldn't be CNG's decision, it would be that of the syndicator.
First you said the show died because it couldn't beat the evening news. Now you're saying it's because it got banished to overnights. Make up your mind.
/Or don't...both theories are wrong

Because as Atlanta goes, so goes the nation.

I like (just from reading the lips and the fingering) that it skips over "You need to" and becomes the stronger directive.
