Title: weirdest game show dream you've had while sleeping
Post by: barker5000 on June 16, 2016, 01:20:24 PM
Just curious (and I'm going to sound like Bob Eubanks here, LOL!), but what's weirdest game show dream you've had while sleeping? The reason I ask is because I had a dream last night that Jim Perry was promoting Sale Of The Century" while dressed up as a baseball catcher (because Joe Garagiola was a catcher for my St. Louis Cardinals, of course), a football referee, a basketball player, and a hockey goalie, LOL! :)

Off the top of my head, the only game show dream I remember involved a lady at the Showcase Showdown and Barker chasing her off the stage. This was more than 20 years ago, but I do remember him chasing her for some reason.

/A non-sexual reason
//Then again, I was about 10, so maybe it was and I just didn't understand at the time :P

I just had a Price is Right-related dream the other night myself. The contestant hit the showcase right on the nose, and Drew congratulated her and ended the show...No reveal for the second contestant.

There was the one with Judy Tenuta chasing me around Supermarket Sweep's produce display...but perhaps I have said way too much.

I remember a dream in which I was watching WOF and the wheel had dollar amounts like $447, $493, and $660.

Shortly after my first visit to a big casino, I dreamed that I was watching Wheel, and a contestant was placing bets on the wheel as if it was a roulette table. He was even placing tip wagers for Pat, which he collected on. To the effect of "There are three Ts! Thanks for the bet. *stuffs chips in his suit pocket*"

Since we're deciding to play it straight, I had managed to make it to the Hot Seat for a very special episode where the first question was for $500, then Q2 for $32,000 and so on, but because the top prize had been won in that series the last stop was $500,000.

Yeah... But there were more villains than there were rooms in the house.

We won't even cover the nightmare problems I had as a kid with talking tubs of Parkay.  Especially the 7-foot tall one waiting for me in the closet.  (Shot up out of the bed with "BUTTER" ringing in my ears and in my soul.)

(Repost from another thread, but fits the topic discussion, so I'll post it again here):

Back in May of 2013, I had the strangest dream that involved the Who What or Where Game:  I dreamed that my pastor was a contestant on the show, and in the final round, he made a 2:1 wager on a subject that I don't remember, much less the question involved.  I only know that the he got the question correct, and won $2,960 - I don't know if that was his total score or just what he won on the wager, but what made this dream so strange was that somehow I was the one writing him the check for the prize monies won, and I was trying to find the sheet that had his original wager written down to verify his total winnings, and I couldn't find it, so I was scrambling around the show's set trying to find this information, and I woke up before I could find it.

Strange dream, but it was cool dreaming about being involved with a lesser-known game show.

This was back in the 70s when The Joker's Wild was still on CBS. I dreamed that, during the regular game, the contestant spun a natural triple. That, of course, would mean a $200 question. Jack, however, told the contestant that the question would only be for $150 because the picture on the third wheel looked slightly different from the pictures on the first two wheels. Hmm.  ???

I’ve posted this one here before, but it’s been several years, so here goes. I originally posted it within a few minutes of waking from the dream. I now call it “Match Game SteamPunk” ...

It was a very realistic dream — that I was in the audience for a taping of Match Game ‘7x. In the middle of the SuperMatch, that part of the set suddenly went dark, with an answer only partially revealed.  There was no Earl to slide it.  Gene asked for assistance from the audience, so I jumped over several rows of people, dashed to the back side of the set, and flung the doors open to reveal a hot furnace, into which the stagehands were furiously shoveling coal into the fire. Before long, the SuperMatch set was back in service, and all was well.

I don’t recall what I had eaten (or drank, maybe?), before having that dream. Pretty sure it was the only GS-related dream I’ve ever experienced.

I've had two and I have no idea or explanation for them:

First time, I'm watching MG/HSQ Hour for the Supermatch.   I'm seeing celebs who never played the show like Redd Foxx in the corner where Bauman would sit.    Contestant calls on Dick Martin for $30K and its "Octopus's BLANK" and the contestant is excited because he figures the only answer is "Tentacles" but suddenly an over-enthused Dick Martin, on the same wavelength reveals his answer before the contestant can say it!    A horrible, deathly silence followed.

And another time, I'm watching Password Plus and Tony Randall during Alphabetics is giving weird clues in a nasal sounding voice that include "Richard", pause "Dawson's", "hobby".    I think I must have recently watched the Odd Couple episode where Dawson appears before that happened!     Funny thing is I could see Allen standing off to one side as it played out which you never saw when the show was on the air.

I'm going to plagiarize one of my own old ATGS posts, from 1999, word-for-word to tell you about mine, well, almost word for word, vulgarity used in original post censored here.  Involves a game show, its host, and two well known wrestling promoters, one of whom would be employed by the other three years later.

Originally posted to ATGS 9/12/99

This dream I had last night involves Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff, Wink
Martindale, and TTD.  Charlie announced Wink as the host of TTD, like usual.
Wink didn't come out.  Charlie announced it about 4 or 5 times before Bischoff
strolled in sporting an nWo shirt (I know, kinda outdated).  Eric said that
Wink was nowhere to be found.  So they went on to gameplay as usual.  A new
champion was crowned, then the bonus round took place.  Eric said that he'd be
able to handle the bonus round better than Wink (yeah, bullsh**).  Eric kept
telling her what to pick, and she kept winding up with low amounts.  The dragon
showed up on her 4th pick, and Eric was laughing silently.  As soon as Eric got
back to the podium, Vince McMahon came out of the hallway that Wink and the
contestants always came out of and started beating the s*** out of Bischoff.
Wink came out and started clapping as Vince and Eric fought into the audience.
Charlie went on the mic and announced that TTD would return the next day due to
violence on the set.  This would never really happen in a million years (unless
Regis were to call Austin a phony on the air during a WWTBAM? taping  LOL).

A toss-up, both very brief:
1) The Moore/Gargiola run of TTTT was on when I was in junior high. A girl I had a crush on was "Number 1." The next morning, I understood the meaning.
2) Watching Final Jeopardy, one player had a gun on the leader.

Last night I had a weird dream in where I was watching Blockbusters and there was a solo player who was ditzy as ditz can get.

Coming back from commercial break after the Family Pair won their Gold Run was this new challenger in the "SOLO" seat and they had begun Game 1 and the family pair had missed their question and by default the solo player had an opportunity to answer correctly. The solo player had NO IDEA what she was doing. She wasn't even listening to the question. She had the deer in headlights look. At this point I could hear the audience laughing in the background but immediately they settled down, Bill Cullen got very upset and asked her "What the hell are you doing on this show?" She still had the blank look on her face (staring at the game board mind you). Bill then goes to say "How did you get on this show again? You sure you shouldn't be on Password Plus or Wheel of Fortune? This is freaking ridiculous" At that point, you can hear Bob Hilton in the background laughing and telling Bill to calm down and they go to an unusual early commercial break.

I assume that it's meant to avoid posts like "I have a dream that one day CBS will bring back Card Sharks with a million-dollar prize on the Money Cards. In daytime."

(On the topic, the closest I've gotten is, the night after seeing a taping of The Price Is Right, having a dream that I was back in high school technical theater and I had one 45-minute class period to light CBS Studio 33.)

That would be way less embarrassing (and painful to read) than some of the things here under the "asleep" rule.

Just had one last night after seeing this thread yesterday.  I was watching an early episode of Wheel of Fortune, and the wheel was much smaller - maybe a few feet across, and the three contestants were seated around the wheel.  There was a white 'wall' about six inches high around the outside of the wheel, and each contestant had one or two wedges in front of them--regular cash wedges.  When they spun the wheel and called a letter in the puzzle, they were allowed to take one of the wedges in front of them and place it ON the wheel, changing the layout of the wheel for the rest of the round.

I have no idea how they earned the wedges, though.

'Tis extremely rare that I dream about someone right after seeing them, but I had a dream involving Natasha Lyonne the night after seeing her as a celebrity on "Pyramid." There was no game show content to the dream, though. And "weird" is not the first adjective I'd use to describe it.

I wasn't going to mention this because it's vaguely embarrassing.  My board game collection is, for all practical purposes, complete, but I still remember fondly the pre-Ebay days of finding this rare game or that at a thrift store or antique mall.  I have a recurring dream where I'm at such a place (never exactly the same place) and find they have a large number of game show games, including some that I didn't know existed.

So last night/this morning, I dreamt I was back in school, and my teacher was Chris Hardwick. Instead of giving us an assignment, he played a Hashtag Wars game, and the category was something about "Rejected Holidays". My answer of "Spanksgiving" didn't get too many laughs...

Had another one a couple nights ago. Dreamt NBC put on a new show at 2:05 am, right after Carson Daly.

I use the word "new" loosely, because in that time slot, NBC aired reruns of Wordplay from 30 years ago. :P

/I'd totally stay up to watch in real life

Not that far-fetched.  Prior to Carson Daly, "Later" was showing SCTV reruns from the 70's-80's.  This was early 2000's.

Forgot all about that. IIRC, they were the half-hour reruns Nick-at-Nite showed in the late-80s, with the intro edited out.

Before Nick at Nite, they were in syndication in the early-to-mid-1980s. If I recall correctly from closed-captioning some of those NBC airings, that original intro was replaced by one with "Friday Night" host Rita Sever doing a voiceover: "Tonight, 'Later' presents 'SCTV.'"

Recently, I decided to start making notes of my dreams in a log.  I scoured through my log and the most recent dream I had was a new "big money" primetime show called "Ice Freezing Cold" where losing contestants were doused in ice water.

I've had two dreams in the last year where Scrabble reruns were scheduled on TV - once GSN, once TBS.

I've had multiple dreams about being on game shows. I once played Wheel of Fortune with my grandmother but was in distress because my vision waas blurry.
I was once pulled out of the audience to replace a Jeopardy! contestant, even though I had already played the game. I was told to just make sure I didn't win.

My favorite was when I was in a Wheel of Fortune contestant audition that was outside for some reason. We were supposed to play as if we were on the show, calling letters in the puzzle. I had my turn and called a letter that was already shown. They were about to skip me, but I apologized, told them I'm sorry and I was nervous and asked if I could have another shot. They let me. I proceeded to then call no less than three consecutive letters in quick succession also already shown in the puzzle.

Yep...instead of showing the SCTV credits, it was simply still shots from the syndicated intro, of each cast member, with Rita's V/O.

/The closing remained untouched

The other night I dreamt that I was in the audience of a Press Your Luck pilot here in Italy.

It was for a two-hour primetime slot, so there was a lot of padding.

The format was quite different: there were 10 contestants, and the first player to buzz in with the correct answer would take one spin, or pass it to someone else. After the spin and subsequent extra spins, it was time for a new question.  Contestants were out at the first Whammy, but they were told that they still had a chance to win the game later.

The board looked like the real PYL one except all the values were in the four digits.

I had a dream I was on TPIR, Bob hosted. Another related TPIR dream, I was watching the show, and Kermit the Frog made a guest appearance demonstrating and describing the item up for bids. I believe I also had a dream I watched TPIR and Bob announced it would be the last show, years before he really did retire. Of course I never imagined that I would come down to CBS to witness this last show live. I also had a dream once that I saw my Mom on Let's Make a Deal. I guess I should say that my Mom has NEVER been on a game show, and LMAD would probably be one of her last choices. By coincidence, one of the TPIR episodes that aired on GSN from the half hour run had a "Linda Kaiser" (she was "Kaiser" then)
