Title: TPIR Primetime Specials to Return
Post by: jjman920 on February 12, 2016, 10:40:43 AM
Three Primetime Specials (http://www.thewrap.com/price-is-right-amazing-race-survivor-big-brother-cbs-primetime/) to be "crossovers" with the Big 3 reality series on CBS are apparently now set to happen. Former contestants from the reality series will team up with contestants on the show who will be fans of the respective reality series. The hosts of the three series will also make an appearance on the show.

I think it would be the first time The Price is Right has aired in primetime since their Veteran's Day episode of 2008.

So what's the over/under on number of trips to locations featured on Survivor and The Amazing Race in their respective episodes?

So what's the over/under on number of trips to locations featured on Survivor and The Amazing Race in their respective episodes?

What I'd much rather see is the band Survivor appearing on TPIR and offering a trip to their hometown of Chicago.

Plus a Siberian safari so you can look right into the "Eye of the Tiger"!

And a chance to get "High on You" on a balloon ride!

I had two thoughts:

1) the fact that she's been on two of the shows (maybe she'll get on Survivor and be eaten by a bear--hope springs eternal) gives Rachel Reilly two chances to annoy America again

2) I love the nighttime shows as much as the next guy but it's too bad that regular joes won't get a chance.

They will. The regular Joes are fans of the particular show in the audience who will be teamed with that show's alumni, akin to how the Celebrity Weeks have been done.

And if you're not a fan of the shows you're not going to get a chance, it excludes a demographic group where celebrity week didn't. Does fan mean someone who watches the show regularly, or something deeper?

A restraining order will disqualify an audience participant.

/Unless they resurrect The Phone Home Game.

Here is the blurb from the ticket page in regards to the Survivor special:

Quote
Are you a Super Fan of the CBS Show “Survivor”? Have you watched every episode? Do you have a favorite castaway? If so, we want you to COME ON DOWN for a chance to play alongside some of your favorite Survivor castaways and win cash, cars, & prizes! The Price Is Right is taping a primetime episode with an audience full of Survivor Super Fans & some very special Survivor stars on March 7th at 8:30am. If you think you could you make it to the merge and win over the Tribal Council, we want you here! Everyone must be over 18, and all eligibility rules apply.

The Big Brother and Amazing Race blurbs read similar. So it sounds like they're specifically looking for hardcore fans. I imagine that they'll let casual fans and even just regular people into the audience, but perhaps have the contestant pool dwindled down to just the big fans. It is rather exclusive, but I don't mind it as much though because it reminds me of the Salute specials Price did 12 or so years ago.

Would it be a logical assumption that the Amazing Race episode will have couples in Contestant's Row?

No, as the ticket page does not say that couples are expected to show up, like it does for the Father's Day daytime episode (fathers and adult children).

So, does that mean a fair portion of the Golden-Road userbase will be on this particular show?

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but am I correct in assuming these will also be Million Dollar Spectaculars as well?

If it hasn't been mentioned as such then my assumption is that it is unknown as to whether they will be MDSes as well as primetime specials.

My guess is that they'll probably just be bigger budget shows- there's no way they would have neglected to mention a million dollar prize in any of the blurbs.

And apparently, they get their own section of the audience. (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cg54ApMWIAETlox.jpg:large)

/In the back, where they belong.
//And there's apparently more people there than are listed.
///Makes me believe those listed are the ones that make it to the row.

Just for this special can we swap the U.S. Rachel Reilly for the U.K. Rachel Riley?  Pleeeeeese?

Just for this special? Hell, I don't even know who the U.K. Rachel Riley *is* and I'd make that trade every day of the week and twice on Sunday, full stop.

She's the Numbers Gal on Countdown, taking over for Carol Vorderman. And she is indeed pleasant to the eye.

Derp level was low, theme integrated well with lots of little touches sprinkled through the episode, overall a fun time. I was pleased that Jeff Probst enthusiastically threw himself into the hour. I hope the TAR episode makes use of the pit stop mat during the SCSD.

Thing I thought I noticed was that all of the contestants came from the left or center sections of the audiene in order to coordinate the meet-up before reaching Contestants Row.

I said it before and I'll say it again - I know that there are many "Barker Fanbois" who want nothing to do with the show since he left (even though it's been almost 10 years now - hard to believe!), want the music to stay the same, the look of the games, the set, etc.

The fact is, the show under Barker was pretty much the same show with little change. I really like what they've done with the show since - theme shows, crossovers with other shows, cameos by CBS stars...A good way to keep a nearly 45-year-old show fresh.

This was the first time in two years that $25k was won on Punch-A-Bunch, and the second time overall since they upped the top prize in 2008.

This. My wife & I want an hour of TV that's fun to watch. That's all we really ask for and we keep getting it. We're the type of people that perfectly understand why Drew Carey was pissed off when that Ted guy yelled out that perfect showcase bid. We like watching the show because it doesn't take itself very seriously in the end.

We're the vast majority of The Price Is Right's viewers, and the management of the show knows that.

The Amazing Race (competing as pairs):

Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl, Season 28

Not sure if I've mentioned it here before or not, but Tyler, who is starting to break out even beyond his zillion-follower YouTube fame, attended the high school where I work.  Really terrific kid, I'm thrilled for him and his success.

Moral learned by the contestant who took the advice of the Survivor player on last night's That's Too Much!: Don't take pricing advice from someone who has been away from civilization for several months taping a reality show.
