Title: Syndicated TV show thread, 2011-12
Post by: brianhenke on August 30, 2011, 04:22:36 PM
This is a thread devoted to fall 2011 syndicated game show programming changes (ie, new shows, new stations for returning series, etc.)

   Here in Cincinnati:

WWTBAM moves to 1-2 p.m. on WXIX, which gets Wheel and J! next fall. Other than that, no changes as far as I know.

Wheel and J! will have their final seasons on WCPO.

Portland, OR:

Millionaire moves from 9:30 AM on KATU 2 (ABC) to 12:30 PM on KGW 8 (NBC).
Feud gets demoted to 2:07 AM on KOIN 6 (CBS)
Jeopardy and Wheel stay at their usual 7 and 7:30 PM slot on KATU (still in glorious standard-definition!).

/there's only 4 syndicated game shows this season?

Cleveland:

Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! spend their final year in the 7-8 PM hour on WEWS before going to WOIO next year.
I cannot find a thing about Millionaire and Feud.  The 9-10 AM hour on WOIO will have America Now instead of Feud/Millionaire starting on 9/12.

South Bend, IN: Millionaire takes a swap from WNDU to WBND, moving from 1PM to 9AM, continuing a double-run and up against LMAD.

/Is there an HD bump for either Millionaire or Feud this year?

KABC-TV will be carrying Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! as they have done so since 1992. No changes as far as I know

O/T, but WOF has had a very interesting syndication history. No Los Angeles affiliate carried the show back in 1983 (in fact, I don't know when exactly did L.A. start carrying the show period). Jeopardy! aired in L.A. from the very beginning, first in 1984 on KCBS as part of "The Games of L.A." along with The All New Let's Make a Deal and Anything for Money. Three months later, it moved to KCOP-TV to be with WOF. In 1989, both shows moved to KCBS, then to KABC in 1992, where they've been at ever since.

Earliest I can find for WOF on KCOP in my TV Guide back issues is March of 1984.

For Knoxville, TN

Wheel and J! remain on WBIR 10 (NBC) at 7:00 and 7:30.

On WATE (ABC) [my employer] Millionaire first run episodes move up to 12 Noon, replacing the 3rd run of Judge Judy.    Second run Millionaire episodes from last season take over the former first run time slot at 1:36am.  This starts September 12th.

Family Feud is still an outcast in this market.

Kinda-OT, but does anybody work at a station that airs Family Feud? I ask because someone last year made an episode guide of it, and I was hoping they would do it again this year.

I believe its run in L.A. was actually interrupted, in that KCBS dropped it around the time of November sweeps -- Alex Trebek has an anecdote about proudly turning the TV on and discovering they were airing "Quincy" instead. Then KCOP picked it up in January '85.

I doubt anything changes here in Hampton Roads (Norfolk/Newport News/Portsmouth, or whatever they officially call this DMA).

For the 28th year, the Wheel/Jeopardy! tandem continues from 7-8 pm on WVEC...that much I know.

I'm guessing Millionaire* remains on from 10-11 am on WTKR, sandwiched between Let's Make a Deal and TPiR. In years past, they've shown a new ep. at 4 pm and a secondary one at 10 or 10:30 am, but they've aired a 4pm newscast since Sept. 2009. With promos now telling viewers to watch their station with Oprah off the air**, I doubt they'll deviate from the 10-11 hour, esp. since it creates a nice 3-hour block of daytime games.

I'm also guessing Feud stays on from noon-1 on WTVZ, its same slot from the previous 2 seasons.

*Is Millionaire announcing that this is the 10th season?
**Sneaky cats, those 'TKR guys. ;-)

I don't believe the Harrisburg Market has any changes whatsoever. Scranton has one that I noticed - Millionaire, the only non-news show on WNEP from 4-7:30pm (it aired at 4:30), moves to 12:30.

In Charlottesville, VA, (Nielsen DMA #183!), Wheel and Jeopardy remain at 7:00pm and 7:30pm on WVIR.

With the loss of 5th Grader, WCAV removes the double run of Feud, and also moves LMAD to the 10am slot, allowing it to maintain a 3 hour block of games:

9am - Feud
9:30am - Millionaire
10:00am - LMAD
11:00am - TPIR

Also, strangely, WVAW has listed "America's Funniest Home Videos" at Noon, after it runs "The View."  Is "Videos" up for broadcast syndication this year? (Or perhaps it has always been as such?)

It's aired on my Fox station (WPMT in York, PA) for some time. This past season, perhaps before. Early afternoon is where they slot it.

Family Feud stays on KSTW (11 / CW) @ 9 and 9:30 AM, and 4 and 4:30 PM.

Wheel & Jeopardy! stay on KOMO (4 / ABC) @ 7 and 7:30 PM, respectively.

Millionaire moves from KONG (cable 6 / UHF 16 / IND) @ 6 and 6:30 PM to KSTW (11 / CW) @ 10 and 10:30 AM.

Two comments on this: one, very happy that Family Feud is continuing its double double run(one double run in the morning and one in the afternoon).

Two, very dissapointed that Millionaire is getting a downgrade in Seattle(at least to me). WWTBAM was on KONG from 2004(after KOMO dropped it) to now, and it seemed to be working well, so why change it? After looking on Zap2it.com to see what's replacing it, I have to say i'm very dissapointed with KONG TV; more court shows, and Nate Berkes's show are replacing it(one temporarily and then the latter permenately).

I would be curious to see what the Seattle market ratings were for Millionaire on KONG to see if maybe that's the reason it's getting dumped. Other then that, I can't think of another reason why they would dump it; it had a great timeslot, 6-7 PM which was perfect counterprogramming against the local and national news and sitcom reruns(plus I watched it every chance I got).

And of all the times to change it to, 10-11 AM, right up against TPIR on CBS/KIRO 7? It just doesn't make much sense. I really hope KSTW doesn't go through the whole season with this timeslot, because if it does, it's going to get ratings that aren't much better then Joe Farago's infomercial(hey, I included a game show reference :).

If I were running things I would put Millionaire's double run at 3-4 PM, right before Family Feud's double run, and you could still have two hours of game shows, which is always a good thing :)

It was brought to my attention that per Zap2it, Millionaire's moving to WVBT, but still airing from 10-11 am.

Family Feud moves to 3 and 5:30 pm, still on WTVZ, but airs back-to-back with a new dating show called Excused. I'd heard a little about it, but it seems to be your standard dating competition show. Browsing around, it's from the same people who did Blind Date, so I'm guessing it could be a little more tongue-in-cheek than the other dating shows of the last, say, 10 years.

Here's the show site (http://"http://www.excusedtv.com/").

Wheel and Jeopardy! remain at 7-8 on WVEC...

Cash Cab reruns remain at midnight on WSKY, with another at 3 am. With Lyrics and 5th Grader canceled, I'd love to see 'SKY put at least one episode in either of the aforementioned shows' slots.

You say it "seemed to be working well". I'm curious to know the basis you have to make that comment. Do you have access to local ratings or information about ad revenue?

'Cuz if you do, I'm sure those of us with an interest in the Seattle television market would find you to be an incredibly valuable resource.

A "downgrade in timeslot" (at least to me) is a slot where I can't watch the show because there are too many things on at that hour that I want to watch instead, so that my magic Tivo box can't grab the bronze medalist. I didn't much care for Millionaire/Pyramid airing at 4 in the afternoon because I was still at school and didn't have a magic box to watch it later.

KONG believes they can make more money running something other than one new and one stale episode of Millionaire at 6 o'clock. As long as I can still time-shift it, I'm not going to get upset.

Good points TLEberle. Basically, the only real TV info I have is from my time in a Broadcast Production program at a technical college. Although I did get a chance to tour KOMO 4 and KCPQ/KMYQ 22's facilities during my time in school as sort of field trips as it were.

When I said it seemed to be working well on KONG, I basically meant that it was in a decent time slot(or at least it appeared to be to me) and probably that people who didn't want to watch the news or wanted something different then news or sitcom reruns could watch Millionaire. As I said in my previous post, that to me is good counterprogramming.

Another reason why it seemed to me that it was working well was because it was consistent. On the same station, at around the same time, pretty much like how Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are on KOMO; Millionaire was on KONG in that 6-8 PM time frame since 2004, so 8 years of a show being on in the same time in syndication and on the same station(especially in this day and age) is pretty good.

The reason I said it was a downgrade was because I do some volunteer work during the day and am usually not home at 10 AM; in addition, most people are at work during that time of the day or school and can't really spend a half hour watching a game show.

6-7 PM was a better time slot for the show at least to me because most people are at home at that hour and the audience(at least to me) seemed like it would be bigger at that time of day then in the morning. Also, you mentioned Tivo, and while it is a fantastic thing to have, there are some households who don't have it(like mine) because they can't afford it.

That's the main reason why I said 6-7 PM was a better time for the show because the people who don't have DVR or Tivo can watch it everyday without recording it.

In other words, complete ex rectum speculation without a shred of tangible proof to back up your claim.

Well, so much for the whole "valuable resource" thing.

Well, now they can watch court shows.

As I said in my previous post, that to me is good counterprogramming.
And, rest assured, if said "good counterprogramming" were getting ratings and/or driving ad revenue, it would still be in that time slot.

The only change in the Des Moines area is Family Feud has finally been picked up after a multi-year absence. It'll air on KDSM 17 (FOX) with a 10:00 AM double run.

No changes with the lineup at WHO 13 (NBC). Millionaire at 3:00 PM, Jeopardy! at 3:30 PM and WOF at 6:30 PM

WOI 5 (ABC), KCCI 8 (CBS) and KCWI 23 (CW) will continue to be silent on the syndie GS front.

Pittsburgh: Some time during the year, Millionaire moved from 1:30PM to 2:30 on WPXI (swapped with Today).  Looks like it's going to stay that way.

WPCW has been plugging Family Feud moving from the 2PM hour to the 7PM hour.  Seeing as the aforementioned WPXI airs the J!/WoF combo at that time, it raised my eyebrow.

Here's what I have here in Erie, PA so far:

Feud double run remains at 3pm on WFXP (Fox)
Millionaire double run remains on WFXP, but moves from 2pm to replace 5th Grader at 4pm
Wheel and J! remain in the 7pm hour on WSEE (CBS)

I no longer have WUAB via Time Warner Cable, so I won't check that.  I have superstations WWOR and WPIX from back home in the New York City area on Dish Network, but I'll leave NYC changes, if there are any, to those who currently live there.

John, for now everything appears the same- WABC keeps Millionaire at 12:30 and the J!/Wheel combo at 7 and 7:30 while WWOR keeps Feud and WLNY carries J! and Wheel two hours earlier. I'm willing to bet if any of those shows moves it'll be Feud because there's an open spot at 2 that I'm not sure if Jeremy Kyle will fill.

My neck of the woods (changes only, all the 19th):

Detroit: Millionaire moves from 9:30a/2:07a to noon (still WWJ), Family Feud disappears (although it looks like our schedule from WWJ has some holes for that day)
Toledo: Cash Cab moves from 11/11:30p to 11/11:30a (still on CW5)
Lansing: Family Feud moves from 8:30a/5p to 5/5:30p, Cash cab from 10a/2p to 1/1:30p (both still on WHTV), Millionaire to 5:30p on WILX

They didn't do a big ol' announcement, they probably just put it in the program distribution information and hoped we'd notice. I only noticed because when they sent the launch promos, they sent an SD feed and an HD feed ("HD content is not supported on this device." -- at least not ours.) We're not HD yet anyhow.

Family Feud will be in Cleveland, Steve Harvey's hometown.  It's on the move yet again, changing stations in some capacity for at least the 5th time in 12 years.  On Sep. 12, Feud moves to the 11 AM to Noon hour on WUAB-43, against fellow Clevelander Drew Carey.  There is no sign of Millionaire anywhere on the Northcoast.  I'll never know how Chad did.

5 times is not bad, compared to NYC, where NewsCorp moved it back and forth between its two owned stations and around timeslots I can't count how many times in the last 12 years!

Started out at 12:00 on WWOR, moved to 4:00, then to 2:00 on WNYW, then to 3:00 on WWOR, then to the same time on WNYW, then back to WWOR, then moved to 1:00 where it's been for the last 3 years.

Funny thing, the whole "Feud jumping around timeslots" trend in the Big Apple goes back to the Combs syndicated version, just realized that.

Family Feud will be in Cleveland, Steve Harvey's hometown.  It's on the move yet again, changing stations in some capacity for at least the 5th time in 12 years.

5 times is not bad, compared to NYC, where NewsCorp moved it back and forth between its two owned stations and around timeslots I can't count how many times in the last 12 years!

Let me see if I have this completely useless info correct for Cleveland...

1999-2000:  WOIO, 10 AM to 11 AM
2000-2001:  WOIO, either 10:00 AM or 10:30 AM, To Tell the Truth held the other time slot.  I don't recall a double run for this season unless it took the 9 AM or 9:30 AM slot.
2001-2002:  WOIO for half an hour, either 10 AM or 10:30 AM, WUAB at 12:30 PM or 1 PM.  Feud, Truth, and Card Sharks were a 90 min. block on WUAB from 12:30 PM to 2 PM.  After Truth and Sharks were cancelled, the 2nd Feud ep. may have gone back to WOIO to complete the hour, though it might have stayed on WUAB.
2002-2004:  WKYC, 2:05 AM to 3:05 AM
2004-2007:  WOIO, 10 AM to 11 AM
2007-2009:  WOIO, 9 AM and 10 AM, with Merv Griffin's Crosswords at 9:30 AM, and Temptation, then Trivial Pursuit: America Plays at 10:30 AM.
2009-2010:  WOIO, 9 AM to 10 AM
2010-2011:  WOIO, 9 AM and WUAB, 3:30 AM
Now:  WUAB, 11 AM to Noon

Oh, I remember that, John...I remember it was first on WNBC at 7:30 and eventually moved to WWOR where they aired it at 5:30, 4, 4:30, 5:00 AM (WTF), and after they dropped The New Price Is Right they finally cleared the full hour for Dawson's return, only to put it at 9 AM.

/Zach, get out of my body
//I remember one of the shows they paired Combs' Feud with was the Davidson Pyramid...it disappeared so quick that I wasn't even aware that it had a previous season that apparently, from what I was told, aired in the WNBC death slot that TJW and TTD 90 occupied

Looking at TitanTV's listings, I stand corrected regarding Feud in Portland. It's moving to KPTV FOX 12 from 11 AM-noon, starting on the 12th.

Also, LMAD has moved back to 9 AM on KOIN 6 (they briefly moved LMAD to 2 PM, and had a local lifestyle show at 9 AM earlier this year, but that got cancelled).

My turn with the Feud changes!

1. Sept. 1999-Sept. 2000: WTKR 10:30 am
2. Sept. 2000-April (?) 2001: WVBT 12:00 noon (before To Tell the Truth
3. April 2001 (?)-Sept. 2001: WVBT 6:00 pm (before Street Smarts
4. Sept. 2001-March 2003: WVBT 2:30 am
5. March 2003-Sept. 2003: WTVZ 11:00 am-12 noon (the first time I can remember a show changing stations mid-season)
6. Sept. 2003-Jan. 2004: WTVZ 5:00-6:00 pm
7. Jan. 2004-Sept. 2005: WTVZ 12:00 noon-1:00 pm (Ryan Seacrest's short-lived talk show took the 5 pm slot
8. Sept. 2005-Sept. 2007 (?): WTVZ 11 am-12 noon
9. Sept. 2007-Sept. 2009: WTVZ 1:00-2:00pm
10. Sept. 2009-Sept. 2011: WTVZ 12:00 noon-1:00 pm
11. Sept. 2011: WTVZ 3:00 and 5:30 pm

That's at least 11 timeslot changes for this market...and I think I just scared myself by remembering all that. However, I'll give WTVZ credit...despite the timeslot changes, they've always kept it on during daytime hours.

Forget this thread -- imagine trying to keep the episodes and spoilers straight over in Show Summaries with the syndie bicycling.

I do have one update for New York City.  The double run of Feud is moving out of the 1pm timeslot on WWOR, with Law and Order:  Criminal Intent taking over that timeslot, according to a promo I just saw.  That will begin on September 19.  No word on where Feud will go.

Millionaire makes its move today in Indianapolis, from a single run at noon on FOX-59 to a double shot at 4 on My-23. Also today, 23 moves Cash Cab up from latenight to 7:00 PM.

Next week, Feud's My-23 double-run moves from 5:00 to 3:00. Displacing it at 5 is "The Doctors", which loses 4:00 on sister CBS-8 to Anderson.

Wheel and J! stay put at 7:00 on NBC-13 for the ninth year.

EDIT: Cash Cab reruns were gone after one week, just keeping the timeslot warm for "30 Rock".

Update on the NYC area:

5th Grader is gone from WPIX starting next week.  Family Feud moves from 1pm to 2pm on WWOR on September 19, replacing Lyrics.

Thought I'd help out with the WWOR and WPIX changes, being I do have those two channels via Dish.

Starting 9/19, there's some shuffling after the removal of 5th Grader/Lyrics
Family Feud moves from a 1p-2p double-run on the Fox affiliate (WZTV) to split airings at 11a on WZTV and 6:30p on the MyNetworkTV affil (WUXP).
The secondary, past-season Jeopardy ep moves from 11a to 11:30a, also on the Fox affil.
The first-run J! (6p, WUXP), first-run Wheel (6:30p, WKRN-ABC), and WWTBAM double run (12p-1p, WZTV) retain their current slots

I was finally able to get the schedules for the week of 9/19 today for the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Up until then, things were exactly the same as they were this past season. The week of the 19th, the new season changes seem to take effect:

WOF and J! stay on WBOC's secondary FOX21 station for what I think will be the 5th season, from 7-8pm.
Millionaire is now paired with The Insider on ABC affiliate WMDT, airing at 7:30pm vs. Jeopardy
LMAD has been moved from the 3pm slot it premiered at on WBOC to 10am, and they'll be airing Rachel Ray at 3pm instead. Since we also get WJZ over here, and they've aired LMAD at 10am since the beginning, I expect WJZ's airing will end up being blocked over here now.
Feud stays at 10am on FOX21 (airing now against LMAD... drat)
Cash Cab remains at 12:30pm and 2am on WMDT's secondary CW station
5th Grader appears to be remaining on the schedule for now, it's paired with Feud on FOX21, slated for 10:30am. Has anyone else seen 5th Grader on their extended station schedules anywhere else? We may be one of a handful of stations across the country that's still gonna be airing it if it turns out to be true.

Lyrics was on the schedule through the week of the 12th, but disappeared from the local CW station's 4-5pm block starting the 19th. Interesting we had 5th Grader and Lyrics on competing stations here, Lyrics will be gone for sure in two weeks but 5th Grader appears to be sticking around. Oh yeah, unless it changes for this upcoming season, no HD on any of the syndie shows (they haven't been up until now).

Update for Detroit: Family Feud will be 7/7:30p on WWJ.  I believe this is the first time a non WOF/J! show was shown in Prime Access since The Price is Briefly Right.  And a little odd that a CBS O&O would take their own shows out of the 7 hour to do it.

I believe clarification for Denver: KLPD-LP is actually a sub-channel repeater for KCDO, which airs on Denver cable/satellite but does not get a signal into the Denver metro.

Smart move for WWJ, IMO, as Steve Harvey's radio show is very popular in Detroit.  With intense promotion, WWJ may be able to increase some prime access ratings from the sitcoms on the My and CW stations.

Huntsville-Decatur, AL (market #80):

Wheel - 6:30 PM on WAFF-NBC-48 (same as it's been since at least 1984)

Jeopardy! - 4:30 PM (previous season) and 6:00 PM (current season) on WAAY-ABC-31 (same as last year, most likely the only syndie game show to air in HD here)

Feud - 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM (double run) on WHDF-CW-15 (same as last year)

Millionaire - 4:30 PM (current season) and 6:00 PM (previous season) on WHDF (new station; formerly aired on WHNT-CBS-19 at 6:30 PM from 2002 until this year's April 27th tornadoes; since then WHNT added a 6:30 newscast)

Still in SD on lowly WHP in market #41. Nothing in HD but network feeds for WHP.

Millionaire is in SD on WPMT in our market as well. WPMT made a big deal about their newscasts being the first to go HD, but other than network and their news, nothing else is in HD on there either.

WPMT made a big deal about their newscasts being the first to go HD, but other than network and their news, nothing else is in HD on there either.
Sounds to me that WPMT is in the exact same situation as WAFF.  For comparison to the other Huntsville stations:

WHDF - everything other than live CW feeds is 4:3 SD

WHNT - live local news (in studio and field footage), some syndication (only Ellen so far), and live CBS feeds are 1080i HD; local commercials/promos, recorded news segments/rebroadcasts, the rest of syndication, and recorded/delayed CBS programs are 16:9 SD

WAAY - some syndication (The Doctors, Jeopardy!, and most of the Byron Allen/Entertainment Studios product) and live ABC feeds are 720p HD; everything else (including local news and recorded/delayed ABC programs) is 4:3 SD

WZDX - Recently (in late July) upgraded local commercials/promos and syndication to 720p HD, in addition to live network feeds from Fox, ESPN Regional (SEC Network), and whoever runs the Tennessee Titans Network (preseason games); local news (provided by WAAY) is still 4:3 SD.

With WHNT and WZDX (both capable of HD syndication) no longer airing any syndicated game shows as of September 19 (though WZDX has been airing the last weeks of Lyrics reruns in HD), and WAFF (which has Wheel) and WHDF (which has Feud and now Millionaire) completely incapable of HD syndication, the Huntsville market only gets one out of the three current HD syndicated game shows in its intended format (though admittedly my favorite of the bunch by far).

EDIT: Apparently Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader is going to get a week's more worth of episodes of WPIX, but they're moving it to 2:00 AM starting Monday. It'll be replacing Scrubs and will be paired with Odd Couple reruns.

WSYX has moved Millionaire to their old Dr. Oz slot. (9am-10am). New episode at 9, repeat at 9:30.
Dr. Oz jumped to WBNS.

GTN23 (ion) has Feud at 5:30pm and 7pm, both listed as new. (I don't get this channel on my lineup but it is included in the broadcast listings)

WHIZ in Zanesville still has Feud at 12:30pm. (I now have to pick this up via antenna. According to DirecTV, I moved into a new market. Even though I only moved into a new home on the same property. I am closer to this station than the Columbus ones (65 miles as opposed to 10 miles). I have to carry WCMH as my NBC afil and not WHIZ. Not a big loss to go without WHIZ but it would be nice to watch Feud sans antenna.

At the risk of turning this thread too far afield, I am intrigued at least in concept by the two rival subchannel broadcasters (MeTV and AntennaTV) that are the current home of nostalgia programming.  Unfortunately, I don't get either one in my area, thought the MeTV website erroneously has a Lansing affiliate on its map.  I've always wondered why those kinds of operations don't throw in a classic game show or two.  Agreeing on fees and rights is always an issue, but specifically, I'd love to see one of them trot out Bill Cullen's version of The $25,000 Pyramid, especially since many of the celebrities on that version were starring in the very shows those stations carry.

Over the past several hours, I had fun looking through old issues of David Gleason's Broadcast Syndication Magazine on his website. They are some of the rarest magazines ever, as I've never once seen them turn up on Ebay. I don't even know if they continued into the 1990s, or if they're still around.

It's also amazing how far back in advance they had syndicated productions planned. The 1988 revival of Family Feud with Ray Combs was announced as early as 1987. And in regards to off-network syndicated versions of sitcoms, they had a package of Mama's Family episodes, basically all 35 NBC episodes from 1983-1984, and the first 75 episodes of the syndicated version from 1986-1989, and a package of Mr. Belvedere episodes, the first 95 episodes from 1985-1989, (both of which began in fall '89), announced as early as 1987.

announced as early as 1987.

This is not unusual.  I remember TVGuide and newspaper Entertainment section articles back in the day that announced sales of sitcoms into syndication when had only been on a couple of years.  The reruns wouldn't be available until the show reached its fifth season.  I always wondered back then, what if it gets cancelled before then?  None of them ever were!  I guess the shows were popular enough early on that the networks gave them a committment.

The most recent one I can think of is Home Improvement.  During its second season ABC announced it was renewed for three more years.  Sometime shortly after I remember reading an article about the show's syndication sales, which were still years away from airing.

WPCW has been plugging Family Feud moving from the 2PM hour to the 7PM hour.  Seeing as the aforementioned WPXI airs the J!/WoF combo at that time, it raised my eyebrow.

I noticed that myself and was a bit puzzled when I was looking thru the DVR and noticed it has been taping 3 shows a day. Getting the double run in the 2-3pm hour and then replaying the 2pm episode at 7pm.

KSFY in Sioux Falls has given their syndicated lineup a good shuffle. As of Monday, Jeopardy has been moved to 3:00pm from 4:30, the earliest it's ever aired around here, I think. Millionaire follows at 3:30; it had been at 4:00. Not only did the shows get moved back an hour, their places relative to each other have switched. Ellen moves up to 4:00, no longer having to compete with Oprah on KELO. I suspect the retirement of Oprah's talk show has affected schedules across the country.

Wheel of Fortune remains at 6:30 on KSFY, following the news. Wheel of Fortune always airs at 6:30 on KSFY, following the news, just like Entertainment Tonight always airs at 6:30 on KELO. I don't know what I'd do if that changed.

Not sure if someone mentioned it yet, but Family Feud has moved to the 2 o'clock hour in NY (WWOR My9).

What the hell is wrong with WPMT?  They air Millionaire in HD but often forget to turn it back on after the commercials (guess there's some switch they have to flip back on).  Get one segment in widescreen then after the commercial it's back to the black bars again.

I stand corrected on a previous post I made in this thread.  I had said that last Tuesday was the final airing of 5th Grader and Lyrics on MNTV in the WSBK post, when in fact, tonight is.

Bumping this up to note a mid-season game show schedule change in Atlanta.

Gannett has opted to end its WOF/J! block on WATL (MyNet) after 2 1/2 seasons.  J! is moving to Gannett's WXIA (NBC) at 7:30p ET beginning January 2.  WOF remains on WATL at 7p, sandwiched between "Extra" (which was in the 7:30p slot on WXIA) and "Everybody Loves Raymond" reruns.

Ratings are a major reason for the switch.  J!'s ratings in Atlanta fell from 5.4 in November 2010 to 3.8 last month.  By comparison, "Extra" stood at 1.6.

WHDF - As of December, syndication and local commercials (I have yet to see any HD station promos, tho) are now in HD.

WAAY - Also as of December, nearly everything (except field footage within local newscasts, some commercials, and few syndicates shows) is in HD.

WZDX - Recently (in late July) upgraded local commercials/promos and syndication to 720p HD, in addition to live network feeds from Fox, ESPN Regional (SEC Network), and whoever runs the Tennessee Titans Network (preseason games); as of December, local news (provided by WAAY) is also now in HD.

With WHDF's HD upgrades, Millionaire is now aired in the Huntsville market in 1080i HD.  Presumably, Feud will be shown as such next season, leaving only Wheel on WAFF still in 4:3 SD, barring any future HD upgrades the station makes.
