I'd say CBN in the mid '80's.  Pyramid, CR, HP, Blockbusters, Card Sharks, NTT, FTM, Bullseye, TTD, Go, Treasure Hunt.  While many of these migrated to USA eventually, CBN had them first.  USA never had any Goodson shows.

I never understood why USA had no Goodson shows. Is there a reason why?

Even though USA never had the Goodson shows.  They still had a nice lineup and GSN whether or not they renewed the G-T contract they still would have had a nice lineup.

I always preferred USA's - from Press Your Luck, to Caesar's Challenge, to Pyramid...I even got into the '90s Joker's Wild for a while.  That version wasn't as bad as people sometimes make it out to be.

It was a great way to spend an afternoon.  I usually only turned to CBN/FAM when USA had golf.

Whoops...just realized this thread said "80s".  Oh well...my opinion still stands :)

Migrated? I kinda thought USA stole those shows (except the G-T ones) from CBN.

Another thing, Monty's LMAD also did time on CBN during the '80s.

I would say that the original TJW was awesome, and TJW90 didn't really live up to the awesome of the original. However, TJW90 was a half-decent show on its own that would certainly best a lot of the other game show crud that's been spewed out over the last 20 years.

I've always felt TJW90 (random $ format) was better than the original version, but that's me.

I think if either a) the Finn version hadn't premiered just four years after Barry/Cullen's was canceled or b) had used a different name and structure (i.e. a randomized set of monitors instead of slots), it might've stood a better chance. For example, if the 2006 pilot* had used a structure like that, I wouldn't have complained. Then again, none of the shows from fall-1990 were renewed, so it's kind of a moot point.

As for the original question, I didn't get into USA reruns until the late-80s and CBN/FAM was no longer doing a games block (not until 1993), so I'm probably partial to USA. They had quite a few good rare shows, and also a few shows that weren't cleared in Norfolk. For some reason, I never realized that they took shows off for a few months then put them back on the air...interesting.

*Anyone know how that pilot worked or who hosted it?

I prefered USA as they picked up great shows like $25,000/$100,000 Pyramid, Press Your Luck and Scrabble which were mainstays until 1995 they also had one season shows I enjoyed like High Rollers 87, Wipeout. Also,  I believe most of the ones that were on CBN didn't end up on USA until after they stopped airing them for a while after 1987 when the Farago Break The Bank episodes and Tic Tac Dough were the last ones.

I agree that TJW90 was decent on its own, however the annoying thing, to me, was that the Joker was never "wild",i.e.  he did not represent a category. Had he been left out, and the show called something else, I probably would not be bothered as much.

/back on topic: CBN, by a narrow margin.
//never hated the show, just the "misuse" of the Joker.

I have to agree on TJW '90...the show itself wasn't bad, it was just too radical a departure from the original, although the mid-season format change did alleviate that somewhat. Much better revival than TTD '90, I'll tell you that!

I thought the format changed slowed the game to an agonizing halt.

It's $1425 to $850, the goal is $2000 and the next category is worth $25... yeah.
