Title: Tvgameshowvault.com--at last it's coming to life
Post by: Blanquepage on September 25, 2010, 05:37:49 PM
In a nutshell, the new site's finally becoming a reality. Three on a Match & Chain Reaction (http://\"http://www.tvgameshowvault.com\") are up and I may add a couple more during the construction process. It'll be up and running October 1st with 15 complete episodes, the shows of which I've yet to determine.

With a generous bandwidth allocation, this site will feature nothing but full episodes all intact in one video...

Hmm....definitely I'll check out what the problem is. I've tried 3 different computers and it worked fine. Clear your cache and try again, perhaps.
EDIT: Nevermind, I might have to update the package. It's probably because everyone's trying to watch it at once and the server can't quite take it. Gosh darn it.

But I watched the videos as well.

Actually, turns out my package is sizable enough. It's an issue with Firefox. By chance was anyone who had a problem with the vids using Firefox?
It plays fine in Chrome, but not in  Firefox. I'll have to choose a different flv player then....

Still no love.

It is entirely possible, though, based on what I am seeing (parking pages) that my problem is that the DNS hasn't resolved to Frontier's servers yet. Can someone give me a numerical IP?

I've discovered that Chain Reaction suddenly stops at around 8:30.  Three on a Match played fine. Going to re-upload Chain to see if that fixes it.
And to Chris, I'll look and see if I can find the IP of the site, because I have no idea what it is..

Watching Chain Reaction on Firefox, audio and all. I tested the first couple seconds of Three on a Match, and it worked fine...

One thing I noticed, while watching CR, I accidentally clicked outside of the viewing window, and lost the window. I then clicked on CR again, but it started from the beginning. Any way to correct that?

The finalized October 1st schedule is now up! It has been locked in and cannot be changed.

In response to Brandon's query about tweaking the player to where it doesn't close if you click outside the video window, we're working on that.
Until then, er, don't click on the webpage while the video's playing! :-D

Thanks Jamie for bringing us the upcoming full episode schedule for October 1 and BTW, that Chain Reaction episode you most recently uploaded, has the OAD of February 7, 1980. And with Go! coming up this upcoming week, that's from the series debut week. Now I don't know if it's from the series premiere or the Wednesday episode from the series premiere week(October 5, 1983) because those were/are the only 2 episodes from that week that are in the trading circuit.

For me, although not affecting the stream of video, there seems to be a rectangle that lags behind (http://\"http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/1434/61545765.jpg\") the rest of the video for me. I use Firefox 3.5 if that helps.

But I'm glad your site is coming back, and this time I don't have dial-up. :)

Wouldn't most of these shows originally have been in mono?  :-p

(I seem to recall it being a big deal back in the mid-80s when TV shows started putting a bug up at the beginning saying they were "In stereo where available", never mind Dolby 5.1 or whatever the latest newfangled sound format is.)

Anyhow, that audio issue slipped right by me. My apologies, it is definitely an encoding issue that I missed. It's not just Mac users, it's simply because the audio only went to the left channel.

The 3 missing shows, TTTT, Honeymoon Race, & Treasure Hunt, are in the process as we speak.

Fair enough on a couple of points; I agree that the video player isn't the best but I have no problem with the commercials being in there, especially since it's a free service that Jamie's giving to the public.

Question: if the video player was better, would you still be against moving the timebar past the commercials?

Well, yes, I realize that. Ostensibly he wants people to use said service, though, or he wouldn't be providing it.

Certainly if the window didn't close when you click in the wrong place, that would be a vast improvement and an argument for asking me to click to bypass commercial segments.

Overall I find it tedious, but understand I'm not jumping up and down and stamping my feet, here. It's his site and he's welcome to post clips in whatever manner is most convenient for him.

What's interesting is that if you see the pilot (which is on the circuit), Art James is his regular ol' bombastic self. It looks like somewhere between pilot and series, they decided to have Art play this mellow, riverboat casino-dealer type of character, which fits the show quite well.

I believe the CBN reruns aired in the mid-80s, but I think the '81 logo was used as part of a syndication package from that same era. There's a Youtube clip from a 70s episode, that was recorded from a Dallas station c. 1983-84. I would guess that the same package of episodes made its way to CBN a few years later.

FLV overlay player has been nixed in favor of individually embedded players for each show. The main page will now feature 12 episodes, with the rest being placed in the episode archive where they'll stay for a while.

And it looks like original commercials are going to stick around based on the way the poll's gone so far!

Also with "The New Dating Game", it should be 1973-74 Weekly SYN since the Dating Game was still on ABC Daytime in the first half of the 1973 calendar year. And I'm not sure if I'm right, but you don't have any FK episodes from Toffler's run, but I know you have "Jep!" in your collection, since you have "Wheel 2000" on your list, you should add "Jep!" to your voting page list as well if you will as I was saying Jamie.

Indeed. The earlier Narz hosting jobs were much different i think compared to those on NYSI , or was he changing with the times or the shows? He seemed to be more spontaneous during the home game segment. Mind you NYSI and Concentration were 10+ years later. Still great emcee and great voice too.

Wish i could say the same for the announcer. I don't think the voice was that bad just the timing and the delivery were just <insert word here>. I guess the regular announcer was off sick or something.

Watching Chain Reaction, and trying to decide which I like less: that the contestant only plays about a third of the game and can be at the mercy of the celebrity partners, or that you can win FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS and fail the end game.

Updates are happening today; received a job promotion this week so I've been spending the whole week in management training and adjusting to a whole new career path. Suffice it to say, time had been limited.

The Thanksgiving voting is going very well! If I were to end voting today, the following hosts would be featured on Turkey Day (in no particular order):
Jim Caldwell, Bob Eubanks, Bob Goen, Chuck Woolery, Jim Perry, Bob Barker, Jim MacKrell, Dennis James, Geoff Edwards....and Robert G. Lee.

So any fans of Cullen, The Narz Brothers, Wink et al better get on the ball.

Thanks to all that participated in the voting for the Thanksgiving VC feature. There's a tie for #10, so there will be 11 shows featured!
Starting at 10:00AM CST on Thanksgiving, 2 winning series' will be posted every hour on the hour, counting down from #10 to #1 of course.

The whole lot of 11 episodes will be up through 11/30.

Just got done watching the stuff that was interesting, new, or whatever caught my fancy. I'll say this: I dig the pot format of Scrabble, because it puts a premium on being able to solve quickly, and not just when the right time comes. I'm not so fond of the spelling, because one of the crossword players got hosed by knowing the right answer but slipping up, and that looked really hinky.

Well, if you're doing a crossword puzzle or playing real Scrabble, spelling counts, so you'd better have the right letters in the right squares.

Of course, there's also the MOSQUITO clip....

While it's funny, it's also kinda sad when you realize the contestants only screwed up because the writers forgot the E. It's MOSQUITOES, so both contestants had a "Hey, that word was spelled incorrectly and it tripped me up!" case for S&P.

How did that end, by the way? Does anybody know if the show ever acknowledged this mistake, or brought back the losing contestant?

EDIT: Never mind. MOSQUITOS is in fact a proper plural.

Not only that, but I don't think the show even used 10-letter words. So I doubt they'd make an exception when the dictionary, as you said, lists what the writers used as an alternate spelling.

But they did, so that kinda cancels out your point.

Dream House: What I don't get is that the Golden Doors round was sorta swapped around, but they kept that labyrinthine mess of a main game, where you're sorta stabbing in the dark at a correct answer, but if the other team doesn't challenge and then get a lucky stab, you can still win money. I'm not sure exactly what I would do for the main game, but golly that was a mess.

Blackout: After seeing the first word in the first puzzle, I was able to solve it; which probably means that 1) I've been watching too many episodes and 2) the writers were too obvious in the way they would make puns and have fun with the language. I still dig the show and concept, though.

My Generation: What I liked about the show back when I was eighteen is what I don't like now. The material was easy for someone who was just getting into music of the 80s and 90s, and now I watch and the questions seem to be a level or two below what a specialty game show should be.

Make Me Laugh: With all of $720 available (and then a whopping $500 in the bonus round!), I don't think the Wager of Death was put to good use here. If there was a way to do the Two for the Money/Password '75 money round mechanic, that would have been something else, but betting $130 to win the game doesn't have much zing.

Inspiration, Please: That episode might take the award for the most uncomfortable game ever. You have players who refuse to buzz in because they'll lose points, who won't solve the puzzle because it isn't enough points to win, at least one person who looks like he's marking time for the final horn...blech. I think an infusion of History IQ or Win Ben's Money before-the-fact would have helped out.

I finished watching this episode moments ago.  One problem I have is that the person who swept the game won less money than the person who won a game which went the full 5 puzzles.  Some bonus for sweeping would've been nice to make up for the lost money due to not playing an additional game or two.

A question about that format:  If a contestant spelled part of the word correct but flubbed up and one of the correct letters is available to be picked by the other contestant, what would be done?  It would seem awkward to have Chuck tell the home audience that the correct letter was taken out of play because it's on the board and that two tiles would be chosen.

Not the clip I saw on YouTube.  The leftover letter is the last S in MOSQUITOS, so my above scenario wouldn't apply.  Also, the tiles which weren't chosen didn't move at all.

And according to Oxford, there actually are seven English words with consecutive U's, although only the first two would ever show up on Chuck's game board:
http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/page/180 (http://\"http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/page/180\")

vacuum = a space
continuum = a continous sequence
residuum = a chemical residue
menstruum = the matter discharged during menstruation
triduum= a three-day period of religious observance in the Catholic Church
duumvir = each of a pair of magistrates holding joint office in ancient Rome
duumvirate = a coalition of two people having joint authority

I"m impressed that Mr. Offstage seemed to know this piece of trivia off the top of his head. Back when men were men and game shows were more innocent, such moments wouldn't have been scripted.

I've never seen (or possibly just don't remember, since I was 6 at the time) this particular rules set on Scrabble.  I've gotta say, minus the spelling awkwardness, it's far and away my favorite.  Did the "mosquitos" incident directly lead to the format overhaul?  Because, I mean, jeez, if spelling's the problem, just yank the spelling portion.  Everything else here worked just fine.

Here's a note for you Jamie, the Break The Bank ABC premiere is what you already posted in your site. So one show you might want to replace is either Card Sharks(1978), Child's Play(1982) or Body Language(1984) or even Beat The Clock(1979) as far as your series/revival premiere episodes uploading list goes. BTW, all 4 of which that I listed were recorded off of GSN in March 2002 and prior thanks to Brian Moore, who has the December 1996 GSN recording of the 1979 revival premiere episode of BTC in great quality, which is rare for any pre-Oct 97 GSN recording of any show.

Now Jamie, for the Wheel of Fortune Christmas 1992 episode you're posting this week, is it actually from December 25, 1992(Family Week Finals) that David Downs has uploaded last year or is it a different episode from earlier in the same week? And as for TPIR, it should be December 23 or 24, 1982 and for Go!, it should be December 23 this time or December 26, 1983 that you posted a few years ago. So Iris served his / her (what are you, anyway?) purpose for the year.

I ultimately felt that 8 half hour episodes + a TPiR already sufficed, so I had to retract 2 episodes. The first casualty was one of the Body Language episodes since I value Password Plus & The Gong Show more, both of which get 2 episodes; secondly, for the sake of not being redundant thanks to Iris pointing it out, I withdrew the aforementioned Christmas 1992 WoF episode (http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjUG-O4zwk8\") since it's available completely intact and in great quality on Youtube.
I apologize for any inconvenience to those of you who looked forward to those entries. Both of you. (?)

Nonetheless, I hope everyone enjoys the Christmas shtuff! The updates will occur throughout the week, with a good lot coming up tomorrow since I'm off.

BTW, the episode you just uploaded for Go! is actually from December 22, 1983 and it also exist on Youtube. You may recall that the very next episode was where the clock was frozen at 9 seconds but Constance McCashin's team continued with their turn. Now you may want to look carefully that Seth has already uploaded the New Treasure Hunt(1973) premiere episode and Michael Tiller already uploaded both the ABC premiere of Break the Bank from April 12, 1976 and the premiere of Chain Reaction from January 14, 1980, so that's 2 series that needs replacements Jamie. And my name is Ivory BTW.

You're welcome, Travis!
And yes, I do not exclude anything Tiller's uploaded since a fair amount of it is crap quality anyway.
As for The New Treasure Hunt, I'm not going to withdraw it; it'll all be in one piece in first gen quality too. The 1/1/11 list will stand.

TPiR & Get the Message are on their way tonight to round out Christmas stuff! I may throw in a couple of other shows too for good measure.

Sorry to bump this thread but, each time I go into the page of yours Jamie, it still has Christmas-themed episodes and it's close to February and it's getting close to the anniversary of the final Beat the Clock show to air on CBS(February 1). Now Jamie, don't you know that February is coming and you haven't updated your video uploadings on your page yet and Valentine's Day is coming up so whatever relationship game show you can come up with for Valentine's Day upcoming we should enjoy. Holy motherflippin' cow, we're finally updated, just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of All About Faces!!

Actually, my DVD burner had given up on me and I finally got around to buying a new one when I had the time and will to do so. Now I can make up for lost time.

Lots of good stuff coming this week. Bedtime Stories and What's My Line are up. A Jim Peck episode of TJW is being uploaded as I type.
I'm also encoding those premiere episodes that won the vote at the beginning of the year, so be looking for those as well.

Hi!

I'm kinda going overboard with the new content; so far I've got 13 fresh episodes up and ready for viewing. I'm shooting for 20 by the end of the week.

The Game Show Favorites section is now coming into fruition with dedicated pages for specific shows.
The first GSV Favorites page up is Wheel of Fortune, which will naturally feature WoF episodes from all throughout its run.
Pages for Tic Tac Dough, The Gong Show, and Chain Reaction are also planned to pop up within the coming weeks.
Hope y'all enjoy!

On the Jim Peck-guest hosted episode of TJW, Nolan P.(aka Hondo20132) has the same episode as the one you just uploaded but your copy is pristine quality, but maybe it's just your encoding error on that one, that was how the one segment is missing, otherwise, excellent quality of that episode. Now, the $25K Pyramid episode you uploaded is from September 21, 1982, which is about the same original air date that the Child's Play episode, among many veteran tape traders, that is recorded off of GSN back when Michael Fleming was in charge, specifically, the 9/21/82 episode of the $25K Pyramid was the 10/14/97 GSN recording, the CP episode from the same original air date was recorded off of GSN on 4/19/98 IIRC.

Now, on that J! episode you uploaded Jamie, that can't be from 1985. Don't let the "Aired JUN '85" graphic fool you because it was one of the episodes that had to have a new Game # since some markets didn't get a chance to air that episode the first time around so it was actually rerun in Jun. '85(in most markets anyway), not originally aired because
1)Alex was explaining the rules to the players
2)The spinning globe itself didn't have the red letters when it appeared on the screen

So Jamie, regarding that J! episode you uploaded, Ian Wallis was right about that episode being originally aired in November 1984. And did San Antonio get a chance to see the S1 J! episodes from the very start? Because that was why there aren't very many S1 episodes being listed in the J-Archive.

The video plays just fine, except for the tracking problem you acknowledge.  It's just that Wordplay has never really worked for me.

I was also about to tell you you were wrong about Stop Me If You've Heard This One, and that you had it confused with a similar format called Can You Top This?.  Turns out the only thing you were wrong about is that the original show is even older, it's actually late 1940s!  That one might belong in the "most obscure" thread.

Thanks for the info! Consultation of the encyclopedia shows that it was indeed from 1948-49.
UCLA has a few 1950s pilot attempts, which is what I must have had in mind. Producers apparently really believed in this format.
Incidentally, pilot #1 features Steve Allen calling in and having a chat, and it'll eventually be posted too.

The 1983 episode of Tic-Tac-Dough with Joan Diaz really made me uncomfortable at one point:

During Jack's rematch game, he is shown a promotional shot from Octopussy and told to name the James Bond film released in Summer 1983. Jack clearly asks Wink to clarify ("Summer of '83?"), but Wink ends up taking that as the guess. Being a rather major error on Wink's part, I was waiting for something during the remainder of the show to say he'd be coming back...but nothing.

(EDIT: I fully realize that he could've brought it up after the taping, as Travis suggested, and returned later on. I realized this when I made the post, but forgot to add it. No "righteous indignation" here.)

Perhaps I'm a little touchy on the subject because I just spent yesterday helping my sister move and she has this irritating quirk where she refuses to speak English like a human being and getting useful information out of her is like pulling teeth. If the guy was unsure that the date on the card was correct then he should have asked about it, instead of "Summer of 83?" You're allowed to ask questions if you don't understand something or think that something's wrong. And for all you know, maybe he did bring it up afterward, and was brought back on a future episode.

But hey, that doesn't allow you to go on with your righteous indignation, does it.

The thing is, it didn't seem to affect the outcome.  X was set two ways, and even if Jack had gotten the square and blocked, Joan won with the Tic-Tac-Dough Jack wasn't trying to block on that question anyhow.

It was an egregious mistake, sure, but I disagree that he should've been brought back given the circumstances.

I just watched the episode of "Bullseye" and had two immediate thoughts:

1)  Jim Lange is a worse host than I remember.

2)  They did something in that episode that's pretty common today, but still annoying: they went to a break in the middle of the bonus game, and will continue on the next show.  Why not let the bonus game play out, go to break, and then sign off with a shorter credit roll?  I'm assuming since this was only Show 6, they were still working out the timing and other kinks.  Did any other B&E shows ever do this?

This one that did air, it just disengaged from the assembly.

There was another time, when it didn't make it to air. A contestant pulled the lever, actually snapping the plexiglas and causing the lights to trickle out while still lit.

Hi!

Back from vacation, and I've opened the new section: The Game Show Vault Scrapbook! (http://"http://www.tvgameshowvault.com/poc.html") I will be posting clips on this section exclusively, and will no longer post any new clips on the Youtube page.
I've got a ton of clips that I've still got to encode into the player format, including stuff from TPiR, The Gong Show, and Treasure Hunt just to name a couple, so expect quite a bit more to be posted as the weekend arrives.
This page should be of special interest to those who just don't have the time or internet connections to enjoy the full episodes on the main page.
