Title: Fall 2010 Syndication Questions
Post by: entguy1 on August 18, 2010, 11:06:36 AM
I know that "Don't Forget the Lyrics" was meant to be a companion to "Are Y ou Smarter Than a 5th Grader," but does that mean "5th Grader" will stop double-running episodes this fall?

Does "Lyrics" have a web site yet, or does anyone know where there's a list of clearances?

Have the reruns of "Cash Cab" been picked up by anyone? I've looked at a few stations' fall schedules and haven't seen it anywhere.

www.dftl.tv (http://\"http://www.dftl.tv\") appears to be the official "Lyrics" site, but it doesn't have a station list.

I was wondering about the Cash Cab reruns myself...anyone know?

Here's Lyrics' site (http://\"http://www.dftl.tv/\"), with no station list.

I saw an ad for Lyrics yesterday.  In Cleveland/Akron, it will air on WBNX-55 at 5 PM.

Probably so. I know WSKY will air "Lyrics" this fall, but "5th Grader" aired on another station. I'm guessing the latter will go to WSKY as well. I saw a MyNetworkTV logo in the lower corner...I'm guessing "Lyrics" will air on a weeknight as well?

It still might be a little early. Usually TV listings only go about two weeks into the future, which is only the first of September...however, I'm eager to see the new listings; the Norfolk CBS affiliate is moving "Ellen" to 3pm, so I'm curious as to what that means for LMaD here. Maybe 10am, and push the "Millionaire" hour to 9am?

Ah. Thanks.

And a former co-worker who now works with the affil. just told me that Ellen switches timeslots with Deal, which (assuming Millionaire doesn't go anywhere) makes a 3-hour morning games block on that station. With CBS picking up the Chenview at 2pm, it kinda makes sense to lead into Ellen...

On my digital cable guide, Sept. 13 on DC's WDCA-20 looks like this:

9-10 am TBA
10:00 - Family Feud
10:30 - Don't Forget the Lyrics
11:00 -- double-run 5th Grader

No sign of syndie Cash Cab yet.

Why run your games oppo the CBS block?

Zap2It's grid can be forced out to ~11AM on the 13th, so you can start looking at where things will start to fall.

Baltimore has picked up Millionaire for the first time in a couple of years, WBFF-45 will air it at 11 and 11:30AM (so there will be 3 GS in the same slot here- WUTB-24 is carrying 5th Grader, and WJZ-13 is TPIR). It stays on WJLA-7 in Washington at 12:30PM, where it's been for a while.

WEYI 25 is in Flint/Saginaw, Michigan is moving Family Feud from 2pm-3pm back a few hours to 11am-12pm. Real Housewives of Orange County will take the 2pm-3pm spot on September 13th.

South Bend's stations really haven't changed stuff up much - Feud moves from 12 noon double to 10AM double (for Real Housewives) and Fifth Grader gets a double-run for the new season.  Lyrics is still MIA, which is odd for this area (the latest a syndie game has aired in the last 10 years or so was Jeopardy at 7:30).

DFTL looks like a no-show in central PA (unless I missed something).  Only significant change looks like WPMT moving 5th Grader to 9am

(ah, DFTL doesn't start until the 20th...still don't see any place it'll fit)

As far as Pittsburgh goes, I've seen so far that...

According to Zap2It:

DoND's final day on WPGH (Fox 53) is 9/3 ... It is being replaced, at least for one week by "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" @ 5:30pm
5th Grader dissapears off of WPGH as well after 9/10.  The 5-6pm hour is being filled by a double run of Nancy Grace's syndicated show come 9/13.

Millionaire retains it's 1:30pm slot on WPXI (NBC 11) sandwiched between Dr. Oz and the 4th hour of Today.
(Interesting side note here, according to local TV blogger Rob Owen, Dr. Oz relocates to WTAE, the local ABC affiliate, in Fall of 2011)

LMAD and TPIR stays put at 10am and 11am respectively over at KDKA, but that could change come October when CBS's answer to The View, The Talk debuts.

Now...I've gone to 5th Grader's website, and right now, they are homeless in Pittsburgh (Right now, they have Pittsburgh, PA confused with Pittsburg, MO.  If you pull up Pennsylvania on their station list, instead of "Pittsburgh" you find "Joplin-Pittsburgh" and "KSNF").

I've tried pulling up Don't Forget The Lyric's website at DFTL.TV (http://\"http://www.dftl.tv\"), but nothing comes up at all other than their page background image (Looks like the webpage may be in the process of being updated.  Maybe we'll have a station list after the Labor Day holiday).

Then finally, we have Family Feud.  After years of languishing over at WPXI, according to Feud's own website, they have the show listed as airing on "KDKA/WPCW Weekdays, 2:00pm".  However, I really don't see KDKA picking up this show, so it's a pretty sure bet that it will end up on the CBS O&O's CW affiliate.  No word if it will be single or double-run as Zap2It does not have the show slotted on either one of the CBS Pittsburgh Duopoly stations.

I used to watch the show when it came on after the Noon news, but they knocked it to overnights a few years ago, and then it totally vanished about a year or so ago because I couldn't find it on anymore.

Not many changes in Detroit/Toledo/Lansing:

5th Grader: 1/1:30 WJBK, 12/12:30 WSYM, 4/4:30 WUPW
Feud: 12 WWJ, 12:30 WUPW, 5/5:30 WHTV
Millionaire: 12:30 WTVG, 1:37a WWJ, 6:00 WLAJ
Wheel: 7 WDIV, WILX, WTOL
Jeopardy: 7:30 WDIV, WILX, WTOL
Pyramide: 5p/2a CBEFT
L'Union fait la force: 5:30p CBEFT

Millionaire gets an 'upgrade' in Detroit (from 2:05 am to 1:37 am).  I don't think Pyramide has been on Canadian broadcast TV before (it's been available on cable).

Agreed, Mike on the "upgrade" on Millionaire.  And this Pyramide version is Radio-Canada's own version, which has been going since about summer 2008.

Also, for Canadian viewers who have a dish, OMNI2 has picked up Lyrics to run at 6/6.30 pm.

Updating myself, WSKY is airing commercials saying that "5th Grader" joins "Lyrics" there, but they still don't say what time. Off the top of my head, I'd expect early-evenings, since SKY airs infomercials up until about 2:00pm. The unfortunate thing is SKY no longer airs on DirecTV, which I have, and hasn't since January 2009 due to a contract lapse. Not that I watched either of those two games, but would at least like to check them out...

My friend at TKR tells me "LMaD" goes to Ellen's 9:00am slot, which is interesting since I thought LMaD only aired at 10a or 3p. According to Zap2It.com, "Millionaire" remains in the 10a hour.

Right now, "Feud" remains in the 12n hour on WTVZ, and I'm guessing it'll stay there, which makes for a nice four-hour daytime block. I'm 99.99999% sure "Wheel" or "J!" are safe in the 7:00p hour.

In July, we've installed an outdoor antenna which enables us to receive WHDF-CW-15, WHNT-CBS-19, WHNT-RTV-19.2, WZDX-Fox-54, and WZDX-MyNetworkTV-54.2, but not the other stations - which means I still can't get Jeopardy!, unfortunately.  A few minutes ago, I saw a promo on WHDF stating that Feud will move to 5PM (still a double run) beginning Sept. 20th.

WOI 5 (ABC): None
KCCI 8 (CBS): None
WHO 13 (NBC): Millionaire (3:00 PM), Jeopardy! (3:30 PM), Wheel of Fortune (6:30 PM)
KDSM 17 (FOX): Fifth Grader (5:00 PM)
KCWI 23 (CW): None

Checking Zap2It: Looks like Des Moines will not pick up Syndie Lyrics or, yet again, Family Feud (been that way for about three years now).

Here's what's up, in total, for Flint-Saginaw-Bay City:

Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune stay on their long-held position at 7 and 7:30 pm on CBS affiliate WNEM.
Who Wants to be a Millionaire will also still be on ABC affil WJRT at 12:30 pm.
Family Feud, as mentioned earlier, will go from its double-run slot at 2:00 and 2:30 pm to its new location of 11 and 11:30 am on WEYI, local NBC affil.
Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? moves from 5:00 pm on FOX affiliate WSMH to the digital subchannel of WNEM, the local MyNetworkTV affiliate. It airs at 1pm.
Also on WNEMDT2 is Don't Forget the Lyrics!, airing at 9:00 am. Let's Make a Deal still airs there at 10:00 am.
Cash Cab does not appear to be airing in the area.

Disappointed about those last few because WNEMDT2 isn't carried on my local DirecTV.

KOIN 6 (CBS): Feud (2:00 PM)
KGW 8 (NBC): Lyrics (1:00 PM)
KPTV 12 (FOX): None
KRCW 32 (CW): 5th Grader (10:00 AM and 10:30 AM)
KPDX 49 (MNTV): None

South Bend/Elkhart, Indiana:

WBND 57 (ABC): Family Feud - 10:00 and 10:30AM (moves from 12:00 and 12:30PM)
WNDU 16 (NBC): Millionaire - 1:00 and 1:30PM (same)
WSBT 22 (CBS): Wheel/Jeopardy - 7:00 and 7:30PM (same), Deal at 9AM
WSJV 28 (FOX):  Fifth Grader - 4:00 and 4:30PM (added double run)
WMYS 69 (MYN):  Lyrics - 7:00 and 7:30PM

WMYS is the weakest OTA in the market, only available digitally on cable (and is on a large 3-digit channel)...and up against The Griffin Hour, How I Met Your Mother, Access Hollywood/Inside Edition, and Two and a Half Men, I don't think it'll stand a chance here.  At least it has a better slot than Trivial Pursuit did (6AM).

Checking in from Seattle-Tacoma:

So far most of the standbys are keeping their timeslots; according to their official websites, Millionaire is staying on KONG from 6-7 PM, Family Feud is staying on KSTW from 9-10 AM in the morning, and Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are staying on KOMO from 7-8 PM.

There are two slight changes though:

Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader which is currently a double run to a KCPQ 13 from 10-11 AM, switches next Monday to a a single run on KZJO aka Joe TV(which is KMYQ MyQ2's new call letters and branding; why I don't know), also on the 20th Don't Forget The Lyrics debuts at 9:30 AM on KZJO; for next week only 5th Grader airs at 9:30 AM on 22 after you guessed it, another court show: in this case Street Court at 9 AM

So most of the shows stay the same except for the two former Fox shows

OT: I have to say whoever's running Joe TV in terms of programming is doing a great job, today they had a Looney Tunes marathon on from 10 AM-9 PM and another marathon on Sunday from 2 PM-5 AM(which is nice just in case the Seahawks start playing like the dogs they are, which they will).

Southeastern PA...lots of changes:

5th Grader: WPMT Fox 43, 9-10am double run (from 1-2pm)
Millionaire: WPMT Fox 43, 1-2pm double run (from 2-3pm)
Feud: WPMT Fox 43, 2-3pm double run (same)
Lyrics: WLYH CW 15, 4-5pm double run
Wheel/J!: WHP CBS 21, 7-8pm (same)

Oddly, WHP My21.2 is showing a J! episode at 1pm, presumably the little-used repeat from last season. Could very well be place filler though.

2PM ---    KGJT/MyNet -- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader (single run -- downgraded from original 6:30PM slot)
2:30PM -  KGJT/MyNet -- Family Feud (single run -- downgraded from previous double runs which skipped around different timeslots/stations last season)
5-6PM --  KJCT 8.3/CW -- Don't Forget The Lyrics (CW network double run)
6PM ---    KKCO/NBC -- Jeopardy! (same timeslot as forever)
6:30PM -  KKCO/NBC -- Wheel of Fortune (see above)
6:30PM -  KREX/CBS -- Millionaire (same timeslot as late last season, but no double run in the morning)

Still MIA: Cash Cab...
Finally DOA: Deal or No Deal (but we knew that)

Something I'm noticing here, a majority of game shows are getting much better time slots compared to years past. Here in Norfolk, I think the last time I saw a show at post-midnight was a secondary ep. of Donnymid in 2004.

I can remember c. 2002 shows like Feud were shown in many areas in the wee hours of the night. For example, WVBT aired it at 2:30 am, then WTVZ picked it up in spring 2003 and bumped it up to 11am. It's had a few timeslot changes in the years since, but mainly somewhere between 11am-1pm, save for being at 5pm in fall '03.

There's still a few shows that I'm seeing in this thread in post-midnight slots, but for the most part, it's cool to see a lot of shows are getting more daytime slots.

WSMH Fox 66 in Flint/Saginaw is no longer the home for Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? after the 20th. My 5 will air the show at 1:00pm and will also air Don't Forget The Lyrics at 9:00am. And other than that Family Feud change, everything else stays the same in our area.

I didn't know that Looney Tunes was even available for local stations; I thought it was exclusive to Turner. I guess if Cartoon Network or Boomerang won't show Looney Tunes, you might as well let the locals air it.

According to their schedule page (http://\"http://www.joeswall.com/schedule.html\"), JoeTV will be burying MyNetworkTV's repeats programming to 11 PM, and will be airing an animated sitcom block from 5 PM-9 PM.

Here's Milwaukee:

5th Grader - 3:30pm & 6pm, WMLW
Family Feud - 4pm & 4:30pm, WMLW
Lyrics - 3pm & 6:30pm , WMLW
WWTBAM - 1pm & 1:30pm, WMLW

WoF and J! remain in their usual first-run (and second-run, for J!) slots

No sight of the Cash Cab in town, however

1:30: WZTV/FOX: Family Feud (Don't recall which is which either)
6:00: WUXP/MyTV: Jeopardy! (First run)

True; although Cartoon Network and Boomerang haven't aired Looney Tunes on their regular schedules in a couple of years, last time Cartoon Network aired Looney Tunes at all was I think January of this year or January of 2009, which is pretty ridiculous if you ask me

The one good thing I can see from this is My Network Programming getting aired at 11 PM, besides 5th Grader and now Don't Forget the Lyrics is there any reason to watch my Network in the first place? just saying

For the Lansing market I show Feud at 8 am and 5 pm on WHTV.
I also still show 5th Grader on WSYM at 12/12:30.

I've tried contacting the stations for clarification (many times since mid August) but only got responses from two.  It's almost like they don't want me to watch their shows!  I've learned from before that guide data isn't always 100% accurate.

Game shows will be hurting in Indy. Witness:

1) the banishment of Feud to the 4-5 AM (Tues-Sat) hour on My-23, which had been airing it at 3 pm for the last couple of seasons. They made room for an hour of "Bewitched" followed by "Beverly Hillbillies" and "The Lucy Show" during reasonable hours, but not the Feud.

2) 5th Grader and Lyrics! will air on CW-4 from 5-6 AM. 5th was previously double-run in the 5 pm hour on FOX-59, but they're adding more local news.

Millionaire stays in the noon hour on FOX-59 and Wheel/J! stay in the 7 PM hour on NBC-13.

Yep.  I've been wishing that for 5 years now, ever since the digest-sized edition ended.  What passes for TV Guide these days is getting very difficult to find anywhere anymore - and it's Fall Preview time.  Oh well...maybe e-bay eventually!

The local newspaper TVGuide is almost all grids, and it isn't very detailed.

And props to VH1 for actually using ad space to announce their evening offerings. Seriously. They'd be surprised at what ad space does for those who still read books, especially for collectors like myself. :)

Treading off geek mode, the show is a fun half-hour offering, and the top prize is reasonable. Another show with a fun concept that got lost in the hoopla of ONE MEEELION DOLLARZ!!!1111!!!!

Yeah, it's a fun game to play along with and I really think it will benefit from the half-hour format. Less emotional family reunions and stuff means more focus on the game. I just hope they ditch the spoiler-filled "coming up after the break" tosses from the Fox version.

The TV Guide Nerd in me wonders how they would have covered digital subchannels in bulleted listings. It would have been elegant, I reckon. It may have meant a shift to four-character wide bullets across the U.S., really. Two digit bullets wouldn't suffice anymore.

It would be very neat to travel to a different market, pick up a TV Guide, and see all those regular channels, and boy howdy, those dot-2s and dot-3s that you never knew about, as well. Ah, those were the days.
