But why would they bring back a one-season syndicated show from the late 80s for today's video game market?

If you're going to say "late 80s" and "Wipeout", could you at least link to this (http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt0LBlH3dAc\")?

Well, at least it's not Ludia or Destination. But I still don't see how this translates to a gaming platform, short of a new "WiiBalls" accessory.

Don't worry, Activision has a shovelware division, too. They're just a) better at hiding it, and b) so friggin' powerful now that they have Blizzard that they don't care about dragging the Activision name through the mud a little.

Those buggers have had me beholden to them since River Raid and Pitfall II.

While I share your nostalgia for both of those games (especially the latter...best 2600 game ever, period), they have burned far too much goodwill across the industry over the last few years to be considered anything but a shadow of their former selves.

There's already a Total Wipeout: Red Ball Challenge out in the UK for the Wii. I don't expect it's very good.

This seems as bad as the Survivor PC game of a few years ago.
The "problem" is that to do it right, you'd need to incorporate the WiiFit board. Not everyone has that.

The second one was better than the first. (Yes, this is damning with about the faintest praise imaginable.)

I dunno. You can do some pretty wacky things if you are creative with the accelerometers inside of a standard Wiimote.
These folks will not be that creative.
