Yesterday I got to looking at a tape of 'TPIR' shows from '97 to '02 and I started to think how I still wish GSN ran the series. Are there those of you here who want to see Barker repeats on the network after all this time?
-
I would, but only if its from 1972-1995. No more than that.
I've expressed my thoughts on Barker elsewhere, and I'll express them here: I'm really freakin' tired of Barker denying the existence of Holly Hallstrom, and almost all the other episodes that featured fur coats.

I'd never watch it if the repeats were from any year after 1995 or so, agreed. The more recent eps don't have any nostalgic value. I could understand if they wanted to run Drewpeats for ratings, but I wouldn't watch those either...

Were it not for the fact that I was a contestant in 1996, I'd wholeheartedly agree. ;)
At least Janice was still around at that time.

If I am in the minority so be it but I would like to see shows from '97 to '07. To me 'TPIR' isn't the same anymore without the college kids and loud audiences.

Ugh, to me that would be the weakest point in the show's history which it's still trying to rebound from. I could do without Bob phoning it in and calling everything "a new record", or the audience cheering over every single thing, not to mention the lackluster showcase ideas built around the word "_____" and tools who think bidding 420 is HA-larious.
I look at Youtube eps. from the early-80s, and it's just a fun, laid-back atmosphere. A variety of contestants who still dressed in regular clothes (sorry, punny T-shirts does nothing for me), and didn't waste their time just to get some face time.

The ones I liked best were the Dennis James nighttime shows, so I'd like to see those, but I generally don't support GSN running shows that are still on other outlets. I'd prefer GSN to run exclusive programming.
-
Unless I'm mistaken, there is no other outlet for Dennis James programming at all.

I think I'm more likely to see Dennis on reruns of "Rocky III" than on GSN.
-
I wish Dennis James hosted the daytime TPIR instead of Barker. At least James was a much nicer man who was humble about his fame, compared to Barker.

It took me 0.014 seconds to use my synaptic resources and figure out that based on that statement, Dennis James had a role in "Rocky III".
Logic. 'Tis a good thing.

I don't care about Dennis's role in anything other than a game show.

In this case, yes I do. Stop being provocative.

Don't stir the baked beans.
Are there those of you here who want to see Barker repeats on the network after all this time?
I have no interest in seeing anything Barker related past c. 1996. I would have no problem seeing Drew repeats--I've always wished that they would do a nightly re-air of TPiR--similar to what I believe SoapNet does with Y&R.

Me too, maybe around the 11PM hour (and if they got a really good rate, maybe replace one of those 2/3AM blocks as well).
/But it won't be in HD!!!!111!!oneone!!

My vote is for the Dennis James/Bob Barker nighttime version to air on GSN, given that Dennis has constantly gotten the short end of the stick over the past years --
* GSN never aired this version, with Laura Chambers claiming on-air that it would be pointless because there were <50 episodes (I don't know exactly how many) that didn't have furs. This, when Game Of The Week/Game Show Saturday Night/Black & White Overnight aired programs that either A) ran for less than 50 episodes or B) have less than 50 episodes surviving.
* The only time GSN actually bothered to show Dennis' Price was the December 25, 1974 daytime episode. They showed it exactly twice, in 1997.
* Dennis' version was notable enough to have two clips show up in Game Show Moments Gone Bananas. Although one of the clips doesn't actually show him (a Clock Game playing), his signature voice and bulky microphone give it away.
* BCI once stated that when selecting episodes for the DVD release, they had a "limited window" of episodes to choose from. Considering that Holly is not present in the set, it would appear that the 1970s "window" was 1972-76. Considering GSN's stance, it would seem that Dennis James' tenure was not in that "window".
* The only video footage of the James version that circulates are all Studio Master copies, although about 30 episodes were recorded onto audio-tape and available at J-Shea's website. Granted, it's rare to have all of a show's circulating footage be SM, but I find it hard to believe that nobody ever videotaped the James/Barker nighttime run.
Judging from the audio tapes, video footage, and people's memories, the Dennis James version did a lot more experimenting than the daytime show. And we'll never get to see any of those experiments.

My god, but there is a lot of conjecture up there stated as fact.

While you make a valid point about what Jimmy said, can't the same thing be said about your reactions to what he said in the first place? Besides, you're telling him to not do something -- and you're not entitled to it either, last time I checked.

Well, wait a minute. He was assuming the role of moderator, and I was telling him to knock it off.

I think there is a lot of gazpacho being blended up in here.

Save me some. Thing is, I'm picturing one party laughing at all this and the other fuming. And if you can't laugh at a game show message board, I can't help you.
/Knew the Rocky III reference immediately.

But it's good to know you're impartial. Jimmy isn't going to stop doing what he does because I think he ought to, but he's also not a moderator; he's in no position to tell me to stop being provocative.
