I posted this on the A/V section as well, but I think this is important enough that it bears repeating.

The "Listen" section will be unavailable January 1, 2010 unless we reach our goal of $750 for site licenses.

It'd be nice if they had a meter or something, that indicated how much of that they have. I don't get paid til the end of the month, and will likely contribute, but at the same time, I can't afford to give to what may be a dead cause :/

After doing my Christmas shopping in the next 60 or so hours, TVPMM will be getting a gift of their own. (What can I say? I procrastinate.)

Which is great, but begs the question, of which I know Matt knows the answer: how much of the membership of this board logs in regularly? I think that number is also around 10-15%.

2033 members times your estimate of 10% = 203 members times $4 each = $812, made in the shade.

It's hard to define "regular", but in general, we get about 300 different members visiting each day, even though only a fraction of that number will post. Over the course of a week, we get about 500 different members visiting. That does not include "guest" traffic. Interpret those numbers however ye may.

It's still up there from what I see- it was up to $456, so it's about 2/3rds there.

I think the number of active, regular contributors who post is around 150.

No matter where the money goes (I, too, don't care)--can we all agree it was for an excellent cause? I heartily look forward to doing it again next year. Great job to everyone who pitched in, no matter what the amount.

If I may point out one thing (he said meekly)...
Paypal does take a cut out of every donation, I think it's now on the order of 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction. It could be less or more based on the specific Paypal account.
I'm going to be lazy here and not do the math, but it appears that in order to net the $750 that he needs for the license, he would need to collect something above that... not much, but maybe 4 percent more. Yeah, a whole $30, but it would still wind up being $780 instead of $750.
I'm glad he was able to reach, and, it appears, exceed his goal. There are other causes around here that will miss theirs by at least a mile. We all do what we can; as my late aunt always said when she gave her nephews a dollar or two at the end of a visit, "I wish it was more."
Edit: $933 on the donate-o-meter as of 12/24, 9AM Eastern Time.

I still intend to throw something in the kitty but I have to wait till early January to get the money. Now, thankfully, I don't have to feel guilty about not being able to do it by the original deadline.

The music licenses and web hosting are yearly expenses, so we'll be doing this again next year.

After my earlier discussion, I was curious, so I contacted the TVPMM last night and heard back from them this morning.
I am pleased to report that if one wishes to donate anonymously to the TVPMM, one need only shoot them an email at tvmusicmuseum@gmail.com indicating what name they should look for the PayPal donation under, and they are more than happy to respect those wishes and not publish that name on the Benefactors page, disclose it to inquiring parties, or whatever.
So for anyone for whom that was a concern, let it be known that the TVPMM respects your right to privacy. Kudos to them for that in addition to their hard work.

You could also email Terry and ask for his mailing address, place an old-fashioned $10 or $20 bill or your personal check inside an envelope, and send it winging on its way to Las Vegas. Just ask him to keep your name off the web site.
