Yay twice the Double Dare!

Would that make it Quadruple Dare? *ducks*
But seriously, that is one sweet schedule.
-
Holy crap Wheel and Tic Tac are back. Still too much Karn Feud, though.
-
son of a gun twice the BTC79, i can tape even more DD76, BTC79 and BL.
-
It's nice to see they're finally going back into the Barry-Enright library. Hopefully there'll be more to come eventually!

Just one thought: All we mostly know for sure regarding post-7 PM is that WWTBAM will probably air at 8, the Poker Shows will air Mondays, and WML/IGAS air at 3 AM. The rest of weekdays are still up in the air. For all we know they're replacing the Random 2 AM Poker Show Rerun with TJW and Bullseye. (24 hours ago I would have said no way in hell. But....TTD man.
(And while they're at it, since Weakest Link is expiring, just go on right ahead and stick Match Game PM and $100,000 Pyramid there in that vacant 7 PM hour. Thanks.)
-
Let's not get excited just yet; they never said it wasn't Wayne's TTD. ;)
Seriously though, I'm very excited to see WOF and TTD come back. When was the last time TTD was on the regular schedule, 2000?

They could show it once at 3:30AM on a Sunday night/Monday morning and it would *still* be too much. :)
Surprising that Tic Tac is back without Joker.
And I would like to start two Vegas-esque items:
ODDS WOF IS THE OFT-REPEATED SEASON (isn't it 88-89?): 3:1
OVER/UNDER ON HOW MANY REPEATS: 6
-
Probably in the minority here but I would have liked to see 'Pyramid' back instead of TTD.
3PM to 6PM is the same. I wonder if the promotion it has been receiving has been paying off.

I'll take that bet. GSN's leases for seasons of Sony-leased shows were always for 4 years. GSN started rerunning it in 2001, meaning a lease expiry of 2005. *My* money, if they've only leased one season, is for 1996-97. Of the 11 episodes of Wheel seen on GSN this year, 3 were from it. Of course, I'm not even entirely sure that they've only leased 1 year this time.

I just hope they're leasing that one season of Jeopardy! again. Adam Kleist may not have recorded all of the episodes yet.

Here's a question for the old timers.
When did we STOP in the TTD run the last time it was regularly on the schedule? Something tells me late Caldwell...? It would be interesting to start from the beginning if those eps exist.
And this is just about the best schedule that GSN has ever had, I think. Except for the absence of Pyramid, but I don't mind if it means seeing less of the same wretched seasons over and over.

GSN took off TTD at the end of August, 2001. At the time, they were around February 1986 or so.

I'm not prepared to say this is the best schedule ever, at least in my opinion - there are a few key shows missing (TPiR, TJW, a couple of the Pyramids), and a bit too much of the Flannel Feud and 2nd-rate originals *cough*Chain Reaction*cough* for my taste, but it's certainly better than anything they've offered in several years for sure, IMO.
-
Hey, some good changes there... and glad to see BTC and Double Dare aren't leaving... those alone are worth the price of admission! It will be interesting to see where they start on WOF and TTD.

I'm assuming Trivia Trap and NYSI remain, as well as the "whenever-they're-not-airing-Amazing Race" slot of LMAD overnights, correct?
edit: looks like overnight LMAD is gone--oh well, not too big of a loss since the daytime airing should catch up soon enough.

As go the Amazing Race airings, so goes the LMAD buffer.
-
Another day, a few additional changes.
Trivia Trap and Now You See It will still air 5 nights per week, at least in theory. Definitely on Mondays, however, as the pair will replace the 1 AM Super Millionaire airing.
The 7-8 PM slot starting January 7th is still listed as TBA, but is now listed as half-hours instead of full-hours.
World Series of Blackjack is gone as of the end of the month. High Stakes Poker replaces it's 2 airings.
How Much is Enough debuts January 8th at 9 PM, replacing That's the Question.

This would make the most sense, of course...with as many Thom episodes that we've seen in specials over the last couple years, it seems like those would be the episodes on hand. But Thom's run wasn't until much later in the second season, so who knows.
Early TTD was better than late TTD for me...I thought they started to rely too much on the special categories when Caldwell took over.
-
A few things:
Is Trebek DD that popular that it deserves a double run? I mean this show was on for like, what, 4-5 months? Aren't we talking some major rerun abuse pretty soon?
It would be funny, with GaS going off of cable and all, if the 2nd run was the Nick 80's version of the show (not that GaS aired anything but DD2k anyway). It would be cool to see the "adult" straightforward quiz show, followed by the messy "kids" game show of the same name. I know, wishful thinking but Summers DD would be a great GSN late-night offering IMHO.
Good to see TTD and WoF coming back. I have to say, I saw WoF coming (after the August marathon went pretty well and then it showing up in the VC marathon on Thanksgiving).

No, it wouldn't.

Not hardly.
-
For all we know they're replacing the Random 2 AM Poker Show Rerun with TJW and Bullseye.
That'd be cool! I'd love to see Joker's Wild again (CBS version hopefully), but if I had my choice, I'd really like to see Break the Bank get another shot on the regular schedule after 10 long years. Maybe there aren't enough episodes for a 5-day-a-week run, but it would fit nicely into one of those 1- or 2-a-week slots.
-
If money wasn't a factor, I'd personally like to see those crazy 2AM reruns be one-day a week slots of random shows...Password, Break the Bank, non-Lane Chain Reaction, Bullseye, What's My Line?, classic IGAS...maybe some random B&W stuff too.
/put Joker on in the daytime
EDIT: Back a while ago, with TTD...were there two different runs of the show when it was taken off the air? I know I have one Caldwell ep (donno how Wayne could be worse than him) from immediately before it was ripped from the air...but I think I have a couple of Martindale TTD from right around that same time.
//really need to get my meager collection in a digital database

"Pretty soon"? I'd say hardly. The show just aired Sunday night/Monday morning was the end of the third week. I think we'd be almost into the fall of 2008 before DD completes its run if GSN just does the double run.
I mean--we're not talking HP or Rafferty BB here.

IIRC, Caldwell TTD aired on weekends around 12 or 12:30 p.m., but I thought that was it. I think GSN stopped showing Martindale's version around 1999 or so.

IIRC, that was when the schedule was still in 4hr blocks. It was 9:30 and 1:30 on Saturdays. It was gone of course when PYL came.

So approx. nine months isn't pretty soon? If it's doing as well as it seems to be you would think they would want to stretch out the "fresh" episodes longer so it wouldn't get so old so fast.
But, anyway, for some reason I was thinking it was going to be on the weekday schedule that way. My mistake.
On an unrelated side note, I also think it's funny that some people can hardly post anything around here without getting a snarky reply just about every single time they post, that makes the original poster look like a fool. It's really irritating sometimes, but, I digress.
I'm just glad more classics have found their way back to GSN.
-
Surprising that Tic Tac is back without Joker.
I know they usually aired together and all, but pairing them up just emphasizes how much they're alike. They (and Bullseye) are much more interesting shows taken singly.
-
If there are 65 shows or more in a series, I see nothing wrong with running them weekdays straight through for a year (4 runs).
Of course, I don't just watch GSN, there are other channels I watch, so I don't really notice when something is on more than once, so I never get the feeling of "rerun abuse." The variety of series is better that it has been in the recent past.

I don't consider nine months to be "pretty soon" at all. But that's just me--YMMV.
If Trebek DD stayed at just one episode a week, I'd say chances are high it wouldn't get to the end of the run before GSN puts something else it its place. The double run at least increases the odds that they do, while still being not run into the ground.
-

Caldwell's hosting style fell along the lines of "robot with an obsession over red boxes". Wayne's hosting style...well...it was neither. And Wayne was only the *2nd* worst thing about that show (and that number drops if you count each of the bonus game's flaws seperately)
And actually, having seen episodes from various points in Caldwell's one season, from early to late episodes - he actually DID get a bit better as the year wore on.

Speaking with someone a few years ago who worked on the show, he was great with a script. But was totally lost otherwise.
He also worked on Joker's Wild during the same time frame and mentioned the host was a nice fellow.

The highlights...
* Caldwell was 34 when he started TTD.
* He's from Akron, OH.
* Attended the Air Force Academy and Arizona State University, where he majored in finance.
* Did modeling assignments and local TV commercials in the Boston area.
* Did a dinner theater warm-up act in Phoenix while modeling.
* Co-host of "Good Day" on WCVB, Boston.
* Co-hosted "P.M. Magazine" in New York City for 2 years.
* During the "P.M. Magazine" stint, Caldwell wrote a manual and gave classes on "How To Get a Job as a Television Host". (Apparently there wasn't a follow-up about how to succeed as a host.)
* 6'2", 175 lbs. at the time.
I'm stopping before this mini bio turns into a personals ad.
If anybody really wants a full copy of the bio, I can scan it and send it via e-mail. One at a time, please.

So looking at this, Combs gets the Shaft again. [/quote]
And I'm willing to bet that Combs will be back in a couple months when the 40 episodes of How Much is Enough run their course Camouflage-style.
I wonder when GSN will finally back off on the Karn Feud on weekdays. I can understand the passive viewership but it gets way too much attention and airings for a show that really isn't that good. They cut it on weekends, why not halve the weekday runs since their inventory for it is less than Dawson or Combs?

So I'd assume that Chain Reaction is still the Lane version?
C'mon....I understand Dawson > Combs....but Karn > Combs? Jeesh.

Getting excited over DOUBLING/TRIPLING THE POINTS and telling a family that they'll "draw first blood" gets you somewhere these days, it would seem...

Maybe they want to rerun it now while it's still relatively fresh in people's minds, and when it's run its course, go back to the classic versions. Just a thought...

For those of you so interested: The season GSN will be running, if they only run one, of Wheel of Fortune will be 1994-95. The episode numbers match up with the ones in the PDF schedule Beverly posted, and the two stills on GSN's show page *are* from that season. And yes, that IS the season with the bizarre Wheel spaceship opening and strange spiked puzzle border.

Call me crazy (if you don't already) but I liked that spiky border around the board.
Has anybody determined where Tic Tac Dough will begin? Someone told me in the 1979-80 season. I had not seen official word from The Perf or GSN, though.

The episode number in the PDF for next week's schedule, which for whatever reason Beverly posted on his site, is B-001, which would be fairly indicative of the 2nd season premiere.

This doesn't look like Vanna at the puzzle board

This happens to be the *exact* episode I got from Locklin yesterday. Funny coincidence, that. Trust me, it's Vanna. (I posted rounds 1 and 2 to Youtube earlier today (http://\"http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=14461\")) As I recall, Vanna was pregnant for most of 1994. This would have probably been taped not too long after Vanna had her first baby.

And the exact one I got from Greg Garsten just a few weeks ago.
I don't think GSN ever reran this season, so it should be cool to see it again. Add me to the list of people who liked the spiky border. (And the spaceship open.)

This excites me.
I have not seen the 1994-1995 season of Wheel of Fortune, so this definitely interests me on how the show looked back then...
As for Tic Tac Dough...well, it's Tic Tac Dough. Great to see a B&E show back in regular rotation.
Kudos to GSN on this one.

I can handle the opening (corny, but okay) and the spikey border (darn thing still had/has turning letters) but that theme blew. Probably worse than the current stuff on now.
/also had a very uncluttered wheel
//what...prizes, free spin
///maybe the $10K and Double Play too?

The $10K space, yes. Double Play was introduced in the next season.

Great to see TTD back on the GSN lineup. As for WOF, how refreshing it is to see the show
a dozen years back, when Vanna was still actually TURNING the letters and the emphasis
was still on the GAME itself. These days, WOF seems to be like one big infomercial, which
is why I don't watch the new shows as much anymore.
