Title: New York Lottery
Post by: WilliamPorygon on August 21, 2007, 10:01:17 PM
Starting tomorrow, New York's lottery is going to be offering a Deal or No Deal (http://\"http://www.nylottery.org/ny/nyStore/cgi-bin/InstantGameDetail_Cat_201872_SubCat_1347239_NavRoot_301.htm\") scratch-off game.  It's just another one of those tired "match your numbers to the winning numbers" games, but there's also a second chance drawing (http://\"https://newyork.secondchancebonuszone.com/dond/home.php\") for non-winning tickets.  They're giving away 18 trips for four to Hollywood, and two of the winners will appear as contestants on the show.

As far as I can remember, this is the first time the NY's lottery has offered a game show theme ticket.

My cousins are from the Southern Tier and I remember buying WoF and LMaD scratchers for novelty purposes on a trip there a few years ago...won $7 on the WoF ticket too. Had a neat giant wheel on it.

We had a Deal or No Deal lottery game (http://\"http://www.michigan.gov/lottery/0,1607,7-110-46442_821_838-163084--,00.html\") here, but it played fairly similar to the original show.

Oregon's version was like the Michigan one... but Tennessee's was like New York's.  The former is more fun than the standard 'scratch your lucky numbers, match and win prize shown'.

Oh Really? Will they have translators on hand if the 2 winners don't speak a lick of English, ala Big Spin?

Still, it's an interesting way to get a shot at being on the show...and a first for a non-lottery show, no?

Confirming what Mitch said, NY did have a Let's Make a Deal game.  I remember buying a winning LMaD ticket on the way to Niagara Falls 7 or 8 years ago.  It was a $2 ticket and I won $10.

Remember the good old days when we'd call 'em "losing tickets"?
If Win, Lose Or Draw were to be revived today, would the PCers insist the name change to Win, Non-Win Or Draw?

You can add Pennsylvania to the list of states that are on the DoND Scratcher Bandwagon...

http://www.palottery.state.pa.us/lottery/P...tInfo.asp?i=338 (http://\"http://www.palottery.state.pa.us/lottery/PALotto/instInfo.asp?i=338\")

And only because I'm a glutton for punishment, and I have nothing better to do, here are some other states that have introduced DoND scratch tix that are currently or soon to be availible.

Connecticut
http://www.ctlottery.org/scratch/816.htm (http://\"http://www.ctlottery.org/scratch/816.htm\")

Idaho
http://www.idaholottery.com/ticketpgs/scr845.asp (http://\"http://www.idaholottery.com/ticketpgs/scr845.asp\")

Indiana (Hoosier Lottery)
http://www.in.gov/hoosierlottery/games/mai...et.asp?gnum=906 (http://\"http://www.in.gov/hoosierlottery/games/mainticket.asp?gnum=906\")

Iowa

--And A Playable Demo--
http://www.ialottery.com/FunZone/IN563_DealOrNoDeal.asp (http://\"http://www.ialottery.com/FunZone/IN563_DealOrNoDeal.asp\")

Rhode Island
http://www.rilot.com/instant.asp (http://\"http://www.rilot.com/instant.asp\")
(Second one up from the bottom of the page)

West Virginia
http://207.97.205.154/html/DOND.htm (http://\"http://207.97.205.154/html/DOND.htm\")

New York
(Omitted for obvious reasons -- There's already a link at the top of the thread)

Now what's really interesting as while I was wasting time doing research for this post...I found a couple tickets that I hadn't heard, seen, or mentioned here before.

Idaho - Family Feud
http://idaholottery.com/ticketpgs/scr715.asp (http://\"http://idaholottery.com/ticketpgs/scr715.asp\")

Nebraska - PYL
http://www.nelottery.com/gamedisp.xsp?gid=172 (http://\"http://www.nelottery.com/gamedisp.xsp?gid=172\")

So ends my contribution for the day!

Actually, to some PCers, it would be Win, Non-Win Or Neither Win Nor Non-Win.

And to other PCers and some soccer moms, it would simply be called "Draw: We Want Everyone To Be Treated Equally With No Winners And No Losers, Therefore We Don't Even Keep Score".

Bumping for good reason...

Add Ohio to the list of states with a Deal or No Deal scratcher.  It won't go on sale until tomorrow.  Despite that, the minimart down the street had a cardboard cutout of Howie with ticket info, among other promotional items in the store.  It's a $5 ticket with a top prize of $100,000.  Game play is similar to the Iowa game linked above.

ETA:  Link to the Ohio Lottery DoND scratcher info page (http://\"http://www.ohiolottery.com/games/instants/GameDetails.aspx?Id=577\").

Add Virginia to the list. I saw one in 7-11 a few days ago. I couldn't tell whether it was a $1, $2, or $5 ticket, but I might check it out eventually.

Nebraska just started selling DOND instant tickets also... $3 ones, similar to Iowa (i.e., the more fun to play version).  Yes, we had a Press Your Luck $5 ticket.  I bought one for my collection but otherwise it wasn't much of a game.  We also had Price is Right a couple of years ago.

Say, maybe there will be a Temptation ticket soon?  If you don't match the winning number the ticket will instead  say "Lots of Love".  Rossi could even be on the tickets in 4 different collectible poses... oh the possibilities!

Imagine now if all our favorite game shows were resuscitated into scratch tickets.  Some might work out nicely.  Let's see...

Celebrity Sweepstakes: scratch each celebrity's podium.  If their number matches your lucky numbers, multiply $1 by the odds appearing above that celebrity.

"Ooh!  I just scratched Carol Wayne and got 20 bucks!"

It looks to me that it wasn't a co-winky-dink that DOND lottery tickets just hit a bunch of states at the same time...

According to the Colorado Lottery (http://\"https://colorado.secondchancebonuszone.com/dond/home.php\"), there are a few states (Powerball States???) that are pooling together for a special interstate second chance draw.

According to the  rules for the chance to win a trip to Hollywood (http://\"https://colorado.secondchancebonuszone.com/dond/prizes.php\"), Colorado has 4 of the 9 finalist interstate spots for the draw (no mention of the other states tied into this promotion).

Our very own PA Lottery now has a TPiR (http://\"http://www.palottery.state.pa.us/lottery/PALotto/instInfo.asp?i=343\") ticket, which, amazingly, isn't a "match this number to this number." Just about every game they've produced in the last five years has been one tired concept after another, but their scratcher sales are up, so I guess they're doing something right. I will place a solid bet that the sales of this TPiR ticket will be through the roof.

Anyway, I played a $5 at lunch today after seeing a man in front of me in line buy 5 of them and lose on all of them. So I took his losing streak as a good sign for my wallet.

There is a Plinko game, Punchboard, Big Wheel, and Showcase. It's actually very well done and fun to play. I got two Plinko chips each in $10 spaces and won $5 on the Big Wheel for a nice quick cash amount of $25.

There is also a prize you can win on this ticket which is good for one of 20 first-class trips to LA to see TPiR, along with some other sights and sounds. Retail on the trip package is about $18K. Interestingly, the prize includes both $2000 in spending cash and about $4500 to offset federal withholding - I can never recall our Lottery ever giving away an allowance towards the withholding tax for any of their prizes. They've given away motorcycles, cruises, all sorts of prizes - none of which have included that withholding allowance. (Maybe TPiR can take a lesson or two from that!)

EDIT:
/wonder if winning contestants on Crosswords lose money after tax if they win a low amount of cash plus two or three trips and don't forfeit any of them?

Heh...not six months ago, Illinois had a DoND scratcher, only it was $3 with a $40,000 top prize.  Otherwise (and lacking the 'banker bonus box'), this is the exact same thing, only $5/100k.  Hooray national tie-ins!

And the lottery's running a TV spot (that played before "DOND" last night in Chicago) with custom Howie footage (he actually looks right at the camera and says "Illinois Lottery" and it doesn't look like they dubbed the lottery name in).  Something the current "TPIR" scratch-off game doesn't have.
