So unless they're working something new into the weekends or shock us with some old WoF, I'll have no reason to watch save for the occasional Lingo and maybe Millionaire. Perhaps the \"new\" PYL eps now shown in vertivision will migrate to the weekends?

Well, It's definately a nice start...

So far...

The Good: Vertavisions are gone (Liked them, but killed any and all variety), Password is back, Wheel and J! are now on the weekdays (somthing that I think should have happened from the start), Actually watchable stuff.

The Bad: DOUBLE RUNS OF THE $100K PYRAMID?!?! DOUBLE RUNS OF LOVE CONNECTION?!?!  DOUBLE RUNS OF W,L,or D?!?! ARE THEY NUTS!?!  Unless there are some \"new\" eps that GSN will roll out of the vaults, this was a less than satasfactory move.  AND WHERE'S MY BARRY & ENRIGHT FIX (Talking about TTD & TJW)?  And don't get me started about the video game crapola. (Sorry for yelling)

Overall (so far): It's an improvement, and a good start, but there is still plenty of work to be done.

NOTE: These opinions could change, pending on the weekend blocks.  These thoughts are only preliminary, for the time being.

Question though...

Steve also posted this exception to the Thursday 5-8PM block.....

(Exceptions on Thursday: GSN Video Games from 5-7, Whammy! from 7-8....Both shows air from 5-7 and 7-8 Saturdays and Sundays, as well)

I am also guessing that WWTBAM will be interactive based on its' placement in the primetime block.

For right now it airs Sat and Sun at 11:30AM EST(in addition to the Wednesday AM vertivision blocks). But, the Vertivision blocks end after October 10th, with the new weekday schedule(which does not include PYL) taking effect on 10/13. No word as to whether PYL will stay on weekends as yet.

I think PYL should air instead of the second run of Win Lose or Draw, honestly.

\"Wheel\" and \"J!\" *were* seen every day from Day One of GSN until the summer of 2001, when they were switched to weekends.

Also, it should be pointed out that the \"Squares\" is Tom 'n' Whoopi--the vintage \"Squares\" is either resting or the rights ran out.

If you'll notice, there's been a huge increase in Sony shows on the schedule.   I honestly don't think that, considering the heck they've gotten over $100K Pyramid rererererererunning the 87-88 season, that they'd give $100K Pyramid 2 runs, let alone add other Sony shows with similar situations, unless they had other seasons

Until I heard it came from Adlink, I was gonna say SB was falling for a hoax again.......

Don't matter anyway. I gave up on GSN a long time ago. About the only thing I watch on there anymore is Match Game. I guess when it becomes \"The Games Network\"......nevermind. There's just nothing on there that gets me to think \"Wow! I really should watch that\" any more.

Hey, Wheel and J! back on weeekdays is a NICE SUPRISE indeed. And hopefully it's not the same ole ones from the weekends. Millionaire is ok with me, but can they cut LC out for christ's sake? It has been run in the ground. Finally, WL gets the ax and not a minute too soon. It has been grinded enough, and even the die-hard fans were complaining on this one.

I am hoping that we can eventually see TTD, TJW on the schedule. But, don't get me wrong, this is a better schedule even if that prospect doesn't pan out.

WL is still on at 4PM as of 10/13. LC, WLOD, and $100K Pyramid all will have double airings a day come 10/13, however.

However, whether they'll be the same ep twice, or 2 different eps once, is unknown.

BTW:  Uploaded an HTML version of the page to http://gameshowutopia.com/Oct2003.htm (http://\"http://gameshowutopia.com/Oct2003.htm\").  For some reason, it tends to make more sense in a color coded chart, lol....

Finally, some good news for those who really don't care for a specific original, total airings are down across the board   The drop in per-week originals with the new sched is as follows:

Lingo: -4 Airings (to 19)
Russian Roulette: -4 Airings (to 17)
Friend or Foe?: -4 Airings (to 17)
Whammy: -10 Airings (to 11)
Cram: -11 Airings (to 10)
Funny Money: -15 Airings (to 6)
Wintuition: -1 Airing (to 5)

I just hope we FINALLY get out of the 88-89 and 97-98 seasons for WoF and J! (respectively)...they'll wear themselves out pretty fast if that's not the case.

Good to see the return of Password to B&WO, in any case.

What you makes think that they're becoming \"The Games Network\" based on one block?

And all previous attempts to outwardly program to under-24 audiences have been notably unsuccessful (yes, under different management teams)--do you honestly think they're going to succeed this time?  (I continue to believe that the video game block is some clueless Sony or Liberty suit's idea of juicing the demos and that the guy won't take Rich or Bob saying \"it's not going to work\" for an answer.)

And I keep saying this, but it's still true--you're never going to get \"Play the Percentages\" in prime time.  Or \"Bullseye.\"  Or \"Chain Reaction.\"  They won't draw crowds.  You just can't program to 1,000 diehards and expect to turn a profit.

I would like to see the 1980 Chain Reaction run in its entirety just one more time so I could get it on tape and have it so I wouldn't have to ask for it again. It doesn't have to be in a good time slot. Heck, if I could buy an Infomercial slot, I'd pay to put it on right after the B&W shows. Maybe someday, ten, twenty years from now, there could be a \"GSN on Demand\" where you could select a series for personal viewing or downloading for a fee.

I never said that I wanted anything in primetime. All I said was there's nothing worth watching anymore, it's all been seen 14,675,981 times already. Trivia Trap and TTTT90 were good examples of what I'd like---one, just ONE slot for the rare stuff in the morning.

The whining is to be expected, though, when the newcomers to GSN viewership learn that the schedule used to be populated with shows such as Chain Reaction and Blockbusters '87. It's frustrating to get the channel and find consistently less variety (at least in terms of non-originals) as time goes on. The fact that all is sacrificed on the altar of money and ratings doesn't matter ... when you see Game Show Network in the lineup, you want to see your game shows, dammit!

ca

If it's any consolation, I have given up hope on game shows appearing on network daytime, USA or FAM (Is Pyramid still on FAM?) or any other cable net except GSN. GSN is, pardon the pun, the only game in town, which is why I think GSN would be the best place to direct any comment regarding game shows. If they don't want to show the old tapes, why not mount new versions of the formats they own?  I am happy that GSN has aired a lot of stuff over the years I thought I would never see again so for that I'm thankful, my cable co. picked up GSN just after the \"dark period\" so unlike many on this board, I missed the daily GSN runs of \"Chain Reaction,\" \"Go,\" \"Break the Bank\" and so forth.

But that's the problem.  You want to see YOUR game shows.  I want to see MY game shows.  Personally, I'd like to see the old black and white classics in prime time.  That's what I would prefer, and it's what they used to do.  But I'm smart enough to know that's not going to happen, and mature enough not to whine about it.

Those of you who dismissively say that GSN is just chasing a buck don't seem to have the slightest grasp of how commercial television works.  And of course the flip side of that criticism is your suggestion that they should use this multi-million dollar resource to cater to your personal tastes regardless of how much money they'd lose.  What makes you so special?

This constant GSN bashing is repetitive and tiring, and it brings down the tone of the entire board.  There really are producers and GSN professionals who read this board, but my fear is that they don't read it often enough to realize that even among the 350 of us serious fans, the actual number of people complaining about their program choices is small.  It's just that those few of you keep at it.

I don't think anyone has really suggested such a thing. I'm just saying it's understandable why folks are frustrated and feel compelled to say something about it. And now I know to steer clear of these dicussions altogether, because it just deteriorates to bashing posters.

Yes, but Matt's point is; this is what many of the people who complain about GSN expect.

Example:

10:00p Greed
Hey, it's a 2000 class reunion with Regis, Anne, and Chuck.  If the Twenty One marathon this Sunday makes noise, maybe Maury will join, too.  Then, all we need is Winning Lines to make it look like old times.  (Won't happen, but we wouldn't say no to a Wonderwall montage.)

And IMHO, this is what I think GSN is going for.

The mix of shows is great; but I have some problems with the formatting of the schedule itself.  Does Whammy really need to be run back-to-back?  I have the same issue with Feud; I get burnout.

Also, having Friend or Foe lead into Who Wants to be a Millionaire seems poor; if they must have an original in that slot; I'd make it Russian Roulette since it is Q/A as well.

And, unless I missed it--no Family Feud?

I think GSN is trying to hang onto the kids who watch the Video Game block.  Whammy is probably the best original for them to do so.

I'll still have Blockbusters.  If either the double-run of Pyramid or the weekday run of Jeopardy! means they're showing \"new\" episodes, this is a welcome development indeed!

At least Feud is still on weekdays (except Thursday).

It was just inconsistent, IMO since I thought they made FF interactive.

Actually they are missing PARANOIA a 2000 game

Comparing Paranoia to Millionaire, Link, and Greed is like comparing Pong to the XBox.

PARANOIA is owned by ABC Family (formerly FOX Family).

Also: Is \"Blockbusters\" staying on GSN's weekend schedule effective Saturday, October 18? Why not another Goodson-Todman classic in its place like maybe \"Password Plus\", \"Super Password\", \"Now You See It\", \"Trivia Trap\", \"Tattletales\", \"Mindreaders\" (if it is survived by the G-T folks), \"Body Language\", \"Double Dare\" (Alex Trebek), \"Beat the Clock\" (Monty Hall version), \"The Better Sex\" (if all the episodes survive), or \"Child's Play\"? Or one of the several color versions of \"To Tell The Truth\"?

Footnote on Blockbusters: On the TV Guide digital cable on screen guide \"Blockbusters\" is highlighted in red (red is a show for kids) but it is not a kids show (The British \"Blockbusters\" was a kids-teen version, \"Now You See It\" in Australia was also a kids-teen version!)

Hey now.  That \"Pong\" game got me a PC! :-P

Adding Paranoia makes no sense at all.  The game was complicated as heck (see the 9 pages of official rules I posted earlier this year) plus the real draws, IMHO, were the interactive component and the show being done live.  Plus all of a dozen shows were made.

How about you stop whining about GSN in every thread instead?  If you don't like it, you can always watch a rerun of Sesame Street on thankfulness--which seems to be more at your level.

At the same time, Don, you could cut him a little slack. You've gotten the point across that it's pissing you off. Give him a chance to react and readjust his behavior.

Wheel, J!, Bergeron HS will be 7-a-week strips alongside their weekend counterparts (Yes, Weekend HS *IS* changing from Marshall HS to Bergeron, or so I'm told).    Wheel and J! will just be continuing from their current weekend spots.  Bergeron HS, my guess, will be picking up from it's vertivision spot.

Info from a GSN Programming Person.  10 min on hold with no music, promos, anything.  just dead air, and the occasional CSR return just to make sure I was still there.   Of course, said programming person could be wrong, but, looking at it, it does kinda make sense...

Say, ya know, has anyone here tried to harass the GSN people into providing episode numbers to the Tivo folks (or whoever collects the info Tivo uses for their guide...is it TV Guide now?) so that it can know if it's recording an episode it already has seen in the last 28 days or not? I just noticed that inna week and a half it's gonna start trying to record both shows each day, and I'm sure one is a repeat of the other. I'd rather it have the flexibility of getting one or the other, instead of having to pick one myself and setting it up as a manual record.

TiVo guide data is still being provided by Tribune Media Services, despite the TV Guide logos now being on some of the screens.

I've been beating the \"Game Show Network guide data\" drum for quite a while, not only so TiVo won't try recording the same episode of something three times a day, but also because celebrity listings for \"Match Game,\" \"What's My Line?\", et al. would be perfect for TiVo WishList purposes...might even help more people become aware of GSN's existence.  Of course, I've really only been complaining about this here, which I guess doesn't really count as harassing GSN people directly.

(To their credit, they do have good guide data for \"Who Wants to Be Governor of California?\" this week.)

Nope.  Today's (Saturday) episode was the fourth season premiere, so they'll probably run through everything they did during Vertivision.
