Well, it looks like Mr. Steve Beverly has updated the list for the upcoming game show Saturday night offerings in March. Now, if everything is correct this time, with no preempts or shows taking the place of another show, this is the lineup.
March 10, Chain Reaction (8-10)
March 17, Card Sharks (Bob Eubanks, 8-10)
March 24, Double Dare with Alex Trebek (8-10) (Its Back) Yay
March 31, Press Your Luck (8-10)
And last, but not least the upcoming Game Of The Week Offerings
March 11, To Tell the Truth (color)
March 18, Two for the Money
March 25, Get the Message
April 1, To Tell the Truth (Collyer)
So for me more exciting Saturday nights for GSN our on the way! The Saturday night blocks in January and February MUST have worked as far as ratings are concerned. I am happy. Thanks to GSN! Also, can't wait to see the ("Two for the money" ep., can't recall the last time this was shown)
-
I take it the Chain Reaction marathon is the most recent version?
-
Only one could Hope and pray for the Cullen episodes!
-
Thank goodness that Double Dare marathon was put back at a different date, and nice to see Eubanks Card Sharks get a marathon.

I'd love for them to throw us a bone and show us some Blake Emmons or Geoff Edwards eps only because they have been rarely, if at all, seen.
GSN should have the rights to Edwards version, no?

There's a dry line in there somewhere and I must avoid it.
Great to see the Double Dare four-pack see air after all.
As for Two For The Money, I believe late autumn 2005 was the last time the program played over that channel.

Well, they have aired a little bit of it before, so it is in Sony's holdings.

I'd love to see that again. But if it's the current version, that's fine, too (Yes, I do like the current version. The fact that they're in a different type of set from previous versions and that they give the last letter are just small things to me).
-
I don't think the set and last letter are the main issues people have, and especially the main issues I don't have. My issues with the are the semi-incompetant host, needless speedchain, dumb betting round, dumbass contestants messing up what should be an interesting main game and bonus round, and then I can add on the last-letter given, crappy set which is really obviously stealing old Millionaire set pieces (it tapes in the same studio as ABC Millionaire I've heard) and lousy music to just put the whole mess together. I know in regular viewer terms it is interesting I suppose, but since I'm given this stuff to report and criticize for better or worse, this one leans on the worse side
A bit off topic, but if you didn't read Buzzer, here's the bonus round changes for season 2.
A team has 60 seconds to get 5 answers for $5,000. If they don't get all 5, they get $100 per right answer. After a team buzzes in to answer a question, the time stops for about 3 seconds and then resumes after that time or an answer is given. The only decent thing about this as far as I've heard is that they have the players looking into monitors now and the answerer is seated infront of them, so it seems like GSN tossed them a few extra bucks for something that should have been there in the first place.
Back on topic, I've heard about the Edmonds version of Chain Reaction, but I've never seen it. I've read the rules, but what was the deal with Edmonds himself. Again, I've never seen him or his version so I'm just asking for plain curiosity sake.
-

Check it out here. (http://\"http://www.pageoclips.com\") First row, third clip. If you still feel curious, or if I'm in a particularly evil mood for that matter, I'll post a full episode.

Five? In 60? With a stop-clock?
Amazing. They have to get beautiful people instead of people who can play the game, so they dumb down the game even FURTHER to meet it.
-
If they're still giving out cash in the maingame, then it may be (minutely) less about stupid people and more about GSN saying that they have money now and that they aren't afraid to spread it around. Now it's not the best way to spend your newly-earned revenues, but it's better than hiding it under your mattress, I guess.

Based on the contestants I've seen, I'll be surprised if they have an above-50% win rate in the bonus round.
-
This is what happens when you get people who just can't win the bonus round, then whine aftrerward. 5 in 60 seconds with a stop clock? How many friggin game shows, besides Scrabble, have a stop clock in the bonus round? This is ridiculous. 10 IN 90 SECONDS CAN BE DONE. Obviously, people who don't know a damn thing about game shows are running a game show network.
The only good thing coming out of this is that your bonus round jackpot does not depend on your main game score.

GSN has the rights to it, yes, but that doesn't mean they have the tapes. A reliable source (Oh, God, there's THAT term...) tells me they got rid of their dubs when they decided they had no intention of putting it on the schedule. So, probably won't be the Edwards version.

Just to make certain we understand it right, it's not really back on the regular schedule. This is just a one-shot (or a four-shot) on Saturday, April 14th, yes? As was the case with the eight Treasure Hunt episodes run exactly six years ago that night.
Perhaps it'll be a 4-pack of Heather Davis episodes.

Looks like we got a The Newlywed Game (http://\"http://www.gsn.com/specific_page_elements.php?link_id=I45\") Marathon on the 21st of April, only one can hope its a different season then the one they're currently showing.
Well, from what we've found out, April 14th- 100K Pyramid, April 21- Newlywed Game, the month of April seems to be "Sony" Game Show Saturday Night, if you know what i mean. We do not know what will be airing on the 7th of April or the 28th, yet. Could GSN have done a one time lease and possibly leased TTD or TJW (both sony shows)? They could put jeopardy in for the 7th, but, i think we might get some surprises

Now, I could be wrong here, but why would GSN need to "lease out" TTD or Joker? I thought they owned it.
And two shows "owned" by Sony (here's a hint: They weren't owned by Sony from the beginning) is mere coincidence. It'd be quite silly to have a marathon of J!, and even if they did, it'd be the MDM that's been seen a million times.

The reason they would need to lease it out is because the shows are owned by Sony as apart of The B&E library. If they ever wanted to add them to the schedule they would only be able to lease 1 season, just like Newlywed Game, Jeopardy, and Pyramid.

Correct -- GSN used to have full access to Sony's libraries because back then, Sony was the sole owner of GSN. Now it's jointly owned by Sony and Liberty, so as far as GSN is concerned, Sony is no different from Fremantle or any other company from whom it might want to lease shows.
If they ever wanted to add them to the schedule they would only be able to lease 1 season, just like Newlywed Game, Jeopardy, and Pyramid.
Actually, there's no rule that says that Sony can't lease more than one season at a time to GSN, and I can't imagine that Sony would refuse to take the money if GSN wanted to lease multiple seasons of any show. GSN pays for only one season at a time because it costs less to do so and because most people don't notice the difference.

Very welcome news. We very much enjoy NYSI. Seems to me that NYSI might be a logical weekend 9am morning replacement for Child's Play, whenever GSN wants to pull that off the sked...but not too quickly, as I'd like to get a couple more Turnabout bonus episodes on tape. Any word on when those will start?

GSN is really making me love them. Double Dare'76 and another great in Now You See It. This should be another great marathon. The version of "Game Show Saturday Night" beats 2005's by a long shot. These are real classics we are seeing this time. Thanks GSN!

I personally feel Now You See It would do fine in weekend Blockbusters' current spot. Either that or Bergeron's Hollywood Squares.

Refresh our memories a little bit, when Child's Play was seen as a full length episode during the As Seen On Theatre hour during ASO's second season, not even 1 episode that ASOT showed featured the Turnabout end game this was followed by the Get Rich Quick unsold pilot and Modor, regarding NYSI, you mean 1999, not 2000 now with the NYSI Saturday Night block coming, we may see some pre-August 1974 shows where it had the long opening and the contestants who make it to the Finals receives nothing except to take on the previous episode's champion or if it's the Solo Game win, it'll be the runner-up from the previous Finals round.
-
Nice to see NYSI on the marathon schedule. I now have easier access to GSN...might consider taping it.

VERY nice GSN, and i mean VERY nice. Wow, we have so many good things coming our way for GSN. the Double Dare Marathon, this Saturday, the Press Your Luck Marathon, Next Saturday, Now You See It, Then 100,000 Pyramid after that, and so on. I am pleased that GSN is giving these short lived shows, (Double Dare) and (Now You See It), Prime time airings.
Also, Now You See It must have done well in the overnight slot in January, cause now we get to see a FULL 4 episodes. Maybe they will show Rosemary's big win. Whatever they show, I'm happy. That airing of Now You See It in January, was the FIRST time i have seen the show, and i fell in love with it. It has great play along factor, great host, players, music, etc...
In addition, we still need to find out what GSN will be airing on Saturday April 28.
Bold Prediction: I believe they will air tattletale's. Why you ask? Its simple, because it has shown up in recent marathons, Christmas, and 50 Game Shows, and its a Goodson/Toddman show, which means GSN can just go right ahead and play it. Unlike those sony shows, Tic Tac Dough, The Jokers Wild, etc... But, who knows, they may show TTD or TJW. They shocked us with Double Dare and Now You See It, they can do it again.
One more thing before i have to go. I believe that the next Major Schedule change on GSN (hopefully summer cause i many others will be off school), they will put Double Dare and Now You See It somewere on the weekday, or most likely weekend schedule. I mean, if they are giving these shows overnight airings, and then a FULL 2hr. marathon, they should return to the lineup, IMO.
Alright, i'm done. once again, Thanks GSN!!! The best network for Game Shows!
-
I must move soon to someplace which has GSN on its basic tier. For their occasional foibles, GSN makes it up by unearthing some true gems once in a while.

I've just never liked word search games. It could be because I'm no good at them hence I don't like watching them. Narz was a very capable host but bland.[/quote]I'm completely awful at Sudoku, but I've enjoyed every episode of Sudo-Q that I've seen from the UK. Now, as to Jack, you're all over the place, either you like him or not, and I don't know where you stand. One time you say that he's not one of TV's most beloved emcees, but you also say he's "capable but bland."

I absolutely suck at playing basketball (I'm 5'2"), but that doesn't stop me from watching the Final Four.

The difference, I think, is that game shows--at least good game shows--practically beg the viewer to play along, whereas televised sporting events are intended for spectating, not viewer participation. Bob Stewart once said he wanted the Pyramid viewer, during the Winner's Circle, to be shouting clues at the TV ("the sun," "a lit stove" for "Things That Are Hot," for example); Roone Arledge was, to my knowledge, never quoted to the effect that he wanted ABC's Wide World of Sports viewers to start downhill skiing in their living rooms. (If they did attempt to participate in, say, relay races, they might soon feel the agony of de feet, though. Oh, dear. Did I just make Donegan look good?)

That said, NYSI has scads of viewer participation. PaulD doesn't happen to like it because he doesn't like that sort of game, and that's his choice, but that doesn't make it a bad show, just one he doesn't like.

I'm not saying that I agree with Paul, but I certainly don't see anything inconsistant about those two statements. A host can be capable without being beloved. I think a lot of people might put Jim Peck in the same category.
Paul was pretty clear that it was a personal opinion. I don't think he needs to be raked over the coals for it.

Just to update, the extended zap2it schedule has a blank space from 8-10pm on April 28th. The same thing happened with NYSI last month! So this will probably be another rarity from the GSN vault! I will update as soon as I get what it is.
Well I have just found out that it is Let's Make A Deal!!!!!!! This is great!!!!!

If you referring to LMAD, they could have also just bought it for the night.
Back to NYSI, it dawned on me why it probably didn't have a longer run. It's one of those rare games where both senses have to be constantly engaged. It was not a show you could just have on while doing something else, you have to be actively watching.

Well, a housewife could feasably answer the questions while folding the clothes in the laundry room, but she didn't have to find the words like the contestants. How does one explain the success of "Concentration"? Coffee break time?

Maybe it was engaging enough to stop what one was doing, rather than try to sort-of watch while doing something else? I can see the average person picking up a game of matching - not so much on word searches and shows like "Whew."

What else is GSN showing this month and next month?

Coffee break time?

(Not a US game show answer, but what the hell)
That's what fueled the success of UK Countdown...a teatime slot. That features the same complexity of Whew...with the fact that it's MUCH easier to see and hear rather than just hear.

Will you be kind enough to post a link to the page in which you found this? I looked on the GSN schedule, and can't find it.

I had never seen any of last nights '$100,000 Pyramid' shows. Were they from the third season? The 'sucks to have your job' award goes to Bob Stewart or whichever of his subordinates had to tell that nice lady that they are taking her $10,000.00 win back.

Wow...stuff from (probably) '88? Man...that would have been good stuff. And regarding the 'sucks to have your job' award...I've got an early $25K where Dick did it right there on the air.
If you remember who the celebrities were...you can check right here. (http://\"http://www.xanfan.com/celebrities/100k-clark.htm\")

Nope this was from the 86-87 season of $100,000 Pyramid. But they were nice choices though.

Pankin and Smith did a week in 1987, so don't get your hopes up. I'm just glad Pyramid was back anyway...

Well, its official. On Saturday May 5, Zap2it has "The 50 Greatest Game Shows of all time" on their listing from 8-10PM E/T.
Well, I am for one happy about this, cause I didn't tape a lot of the shows that I wanted to.
Thanks GSN for rerunning this special!!!

Adding on to this discussion, it looks like WBSM will be airing on Saturday, May 26th. (It's on the page on GSN's site.)
-
Just a reminder that tonight's marathon is of The Newlywed Game.
-
I wonder what era tonight's LMaD episodes will come from?

Well, I have found out from tvgameshows.net what GSN will be airing tonight for the Lets Make A Deal Marathon.
The 8-10 p.m. (EDT/PDT) mini-marathon slot goes to selected episodes from the ABC and syndicated version of the series (1968-77).

Most likely the 70s run, maybe one from the mid-80s.
