Title: Full Password All-Stars theme....
Post by: Blanquepage on July 03, 2006, 09:23:04 PM
If this is old news and I'm one of the last ones to know about this, my apologies. I couldn't contain my glee over downloading the full version of best Password theme ever. [/i]
All I've seen posted anywhere is an artificially extended cut of the main theme.
For those who want to hear the REAL full theme in the clear, go here to check out T.Q's Game Show Music Page, Section P! (http://\"http://gsthemes.tekcities.com/partp.html\")

Also in that section: The Party Game? What the heck was that?

Wow; even I'm surprised about this one. I'll see if I can get the full-quality original MP3 from him to put up.

Looking at the file information for the Password All-Stars "vamp" music, it also says that it's an unused MG73 cue. Considering the musical similarities between the vamp and the main All-Stars theme, does that mean they cannibalized that vamp to get that great theme?

I'm sure someone will correct me, but that seemed interesting to me.

As per a Google search of ATGS, it was a Canuck based charades game show from the 70s.

Wow!! And there's some other great stuff there, too, including the J! 78 opening theme (January, February, March) and a MUCH cleaner version of the full People's Court theme.

Wasn't that Password All-stars vamp originally composed as think music for Match Game? I think Casey shared it with us originally, along with two other songs, as three unused Match Game think cues.

The Name That Tune theme sounds like "Cheeseburger In Paradise".

Very impressive site.
Title: Full Password All-Stars theme....
Post by: JasonA1 on July 04, 2006, 10:13:05 PM
It is. Back in the heyday of free Napster and all of its clones, it was clearly labeled as a chance to "name that tune" - the idea was some college band played "Cheeseburger" and you'd download it trying to guess what it was. I assume it just got passed along erroneously as a theme to the show.

I love the site for what it gives to us fans, but it has some clear clear mistakes like the one above. For example, taking cues from the JM Productions website in a section devoted to their "Finders Keepers" pilot and listing them as cues from the pilot to the Nick version.

On the other hand, this guy DOES deserve credit for making these files available for listening, as opposed to just making a list of the cool stuff he has with a "nyah-nyah, you don't!" at the bottom.

(Somebody a while ago had a site pretty much exactly like that, with some sort of pretentious title like Television Production Music Museum, which of course was merely his collection.)

Here's what sucks...a couple of years ago I (actually anyone could have) had access to the 1999-02 NFL Today theme, but CBS SportsLine took the file down before I could save/record the theme to MP3 so alas I don't have it.

Even worse for this theme geek, a friend of mine, who got me in the sports theme trading "thang" once sent me the NFL on CBS theme for the 1998 season (great theme of course), but cited that he loathed the NFL Today theme.  He had the connections to get it (he actually knows 4th tier CBS announcer Ian Eagle), but eh so it goes.

I'm probably going to update the old Bonus Page on my website soon.  For those who don't know what it is, think of it as Casey Buck's Audio Booth with a slant towards news and sports theme music.

Love the current CBS NFL theme. Much better than the draggy old one. (Although I'd love to hear the 1960s version - "Confidence" - one more time.)

Worst NFL theme evar, BTW - NBC's mid-90s version, which somebody called "the dance of the 4-12 Bengals."

It may have been written for "Concentration" but it was never used on the show.

There was, by the way, a different piece of music used for the pilot of "The Girl In My Life", which did air (but about midway through the run). It may or may not have been Kalehoff's work; it was a much more sedate waltz-type piece of music.

The theme itself appears to be based off a Burt Bacharach cue from the unofficial James Bond film "Casino Royale" (the 1967 film, not the upcoming 2006 version). I know for I have the cue from that soundtrack. The original track is "Bond Street", it was later remixed as "Home James, Don't Spare the Horses" on the 1967 film.

(And there's my item-of-useless-trivia for the time being...)

Nope, that's not it. But that was used as a Girl In My Life cue, as was #3 and that "unused car prize" cue. And none of that music was used on Concentration.

That is, in fact, exactly what I was saying.

That said, at the same time, and this is JMODO, I'd rather not see crappily-compressed RealAudio-to-MP3-conversions enter the distrubution channels, representing actual full-quality rips. I've listened to too many bad MP3 rips out there to have to see more of them.

Well, if you guys have 2:18 worth of cues he doesn't have, that I could send to T.Q, then I could get the MP3. Yes, this guy is a time-based trader. *sigh*

He will only give out the MP3s to people who have something he doesn't have. I had to do this same thing to get the Jeopardy 79 theme.

I really don't understand how people can be possesive of something that isn't theirs.  But I don't want to open that can of worms again...

Actually, since it's not theirs to start with and they will only let you have it if you give THEM something in return, "pimp" seems to be a more appropriate label.

Never thought I'd see a day when the word "pimp" would actually enter a game show conversation. ;-) :-P

He just put up the entire, and I mean entire, Sheldon Allman "Let's Make a Deal" library, over 80 cues worth.

Yikes, man! Already seeing a mountain of themes here worth adding to my jukebox for the summer carnival when I'm running the money wheel.

Saw a couple themes mislinked with nothing there. Sad, too. I wouldn't mind having the Lingo themes. And I was so hyped for finding the shows I had asked about a little while ago, like the Press Your Luck pilot, Hit Man and Wipeout. Ah well, one of these days, they've gotta turn up.

And was it just me, or did the Long Pilot for Bullseye really bring new meaning to the term LOOOONG pilot? 16 minutes, AND disco lyrics?! You'd think you were settling in for Rapper's Delight or something. One thing's for sure: The closing theme is better, but I know that the interlude piece they played coming out of commercials belongs in there somewhere. I don't know if that one's ever gonna make sense.

But what a site! Kudos to TQ. I can hunt here for ages!

Which made the rounds of a lot of Hatos-Hall shows. If you look hard enough there you can also find the themes to "Three For The Money" and "Masquerade Party".

Wow...I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but T.Q. has the best version of the theme for Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? that I've ever heard anywhere...including on the actual show.

Is it different than what's on the CD that is (or was) commercially available?

I've noticed that he doesn't seem to have any misgivings about taking commercially-released tracks and posting them along with the rest. (c.f. Mole, The)  Not that I necessarily have a problem with that, I don't think one's any more or less legal to do than the other, but it seems more likely that he'd get himself in trouble essentially posting entire CDs.

A time-based trader?  Really?  I was so impressed until I read that.

How would he feel about music to locally-produced high school quizzes?

Can't we just record somebody saying "F*** you" for 2:18, and label it as some rare theme that he doesn't have? Would he fall for it?

I admit I'm not computer savvy, but can't you record these on Cool Edit or Adobe and have them for your personal use? Is there a quality issue I don't understand? At least you can hear them. Am I missing something?

First he's a "theme whore" and now this? A bit overly bitter over pieces of music, eh?

In other news, this one might have gone unnoticed, but he's even posted the original 1983 "Changing Keys" music, slightly different than the 1984 version.

He did?  Unless I have the wrong file, it sounds like '84 to me.  And I know what '83 is supposed to sound like.

I posted links to the long (what he has) and short versions of that theme on my site (look in the sidebar).  Link's in the sig.

Yes, there are absolutely quality issues...the source MP3 is going to sound way better than a compressed-to-hell-and-back RealMedia file.

If the quality right as it is now is good enough for you, knock yourself out. Not for me, though.

The WOF 83 that he has up there is the original theme. The air version is looped to begin at :54 and then goes back to :02 at the corresponding point in the music.

The theme was rerecorded in 1984 to give it a little more presence and bring the tenor sax (which may have been played by Plas Johnson - I'm not entirely sure, but he was in the Mort Lindsey band at the time) a little more to the front of the mix. This is the version you hear on the game show CD.

Yes, it's definitely the 83 version, which was released on a 1983 single on the Zoo York label.  Nightwalk was on the B-side... also different from the version released on 1984's "Escape" album.

Well, it's exactly like what you hear on the TV show, except it includes the fifth and sixth verses.  So if that's what was one the CD, no; otherwise, yes.

T.Q.: All those unknown cues were prize cues from the Vegas version of LMAD. Unknown cue 51 is one that I know for sure that was used on Vegas LMAD.

Out of curiosity, and pardon me for the aged bump, was Merv Griffin's "Escape" album ever released on CD?
